  1. IMO this is how Color vs. Color should work and should be the norm. Keep the white jerseys at home games only. And, stop with the City vs. Throwback matchups. I wish the NBA took a MLB approach to throwback jerseys and games by dressing both teams up in era appropriate jerseys.

Veterans' Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix was another smaller, older venue used through the early 90s.

The American flag tacked onto the wall horizontally above the scoreboard, rather than hanging vertically from a beam as is customary today, is interesting.

Well and one thing that goes unnoticed is that the tiles are curved! Which makes sense because of the exterior design. It's just hard to notice it in pictures.

Like a lot of NBA arenas that lasted well into the 1990s, the Salt Palace was such a charmingly...modest-looking place.

I agree. I was way too young to remember my first Jazz game at the Salt Palace. But, before they tore it down I was able to attend a couple of Golden Eagles games, a few circuses, Disney on Ice shows and a few NBA All-Star Weekend events back in 1993. It definitely showed it's age, but there really was a charm to it that you don't see in any of the modern arenas.

That was something the 4 ABA teams did to mark the 30th anniversary of the founding of that league. I seem to remember at least one team (think it was Denver) asking permission to use the ball in a regular season game but were shot down.

I'd love to see the ABA teams do that again, especially in the regular season. And, let's be honest, the NBA and Nike would be all over it.

Cavs look better than the leaks, but still not anything amazing. Really not a fan of the huge blue circle on the shorts.

They went with a Cleveland Metroparks theme. Honestly don't know why they went with light blue instead of green if that's the case. Can't say I've been impressed by anything this "visual artist" has done since he was put in charge of the Cavs branding.

I REALLLLLLLLY want to hate this, but it oddly works? Maybe? I think?

It was never a rule in the BAA/NBA, only at college (and possibly high school?) level.

Yeah, that's what I am seeing as well in what I can find online. I am sure between when that rule was made in the college ranks to ... probably ... the mid-90s(?) when numbers like #91 (Rodman), #76 (Shawn Bradley), #77 (Gheorge Muresan), etc. started getting used in the NBA that you just didn't see many unusual numbers because players wanted to carry over their college numbers.

Numbers had to be 5 or lower so refs when calling fouls they only had to show the numbers on each hand, so 43 would be 4 fingers and 3 fingers ect

Dont care has it right.  The rule is still followed in the NCAA, and most amateur competitions mandate that only these numbers be used.

Thankfully, when I played basketball in college intramural leagues and later men's rec leagues, I was able to keep my lifetime soccer and football number of  12 (or when I was called for a foul, "one finger, two fingers")

Ok, I see that rule for college ball, but I don't see anything for the NBA. There were a number of players that had numbers with digits 6-9 and above 55. Additionally, a little bit of digging I did on my own suggest Maravich changed his number in 1975 to #7 as a fresh start entering his seventh season. Another side note, Maravich wore #44 with the Hawks after his LSU number #23 was worn by Lou Hudson, so he went with his college PPG average. Huh.

Any new Seattle team owns the rights to the name, colors, and history of the Sonics (officially they'll share the history with the Thunder), so there's no way it won't be a green and gold Seattle SuperSonics return.

I remember when this deal was made. However, I'd put money on the NBA just giving the Sonics 2.0 the Supersonics history from 1967-2008 and then playing make believe that the Thunder started in 2008 just like they did with the Hornets and Pelicans.

  9. I think there are a number of directions a Las Vegas NBA team can go with a name.

    Tie-in with the Golden Knights/MGM/Arena

    1 - Las Vegas Gladiators

    2 - Las Vegas Avengers

    3 - Las Vegas Lions

Tie-in with Vegas Sports Teams of the Past

    1 - Las Vegas Stars

    2 - Las Vegas Dustdevils

    3 - Las Vegas Wranglers

    Tie-in with The Strip

    1 - Las Vegas Royals

    2 - Las Vegas Flamingos

    3 - Vegas Gamblers

    Tie-in with Nevada

    1 - Las Vegas Battlers

    2 - Las Vegas Bighorns

    3 - Las Vegas Quicksilvers

    Tie-in with the Desert

    1 - Las Vegas Vipers

    2 - Las Vegas Outlaws

    3 - Vegas Desert Eagles

    Personally I like --

    • Las Vegas Stars
    • Las Vegas Royals
    • Las Vegas Flamingos
    • Las Vegas Gladiators
    • Vegas Desert Eagles

One other reason. They're retiring Elvin Hayes number and he played for both cities. First game with the set will be is his ceremony.

It feels like somewhat of a shame that Big E's #44 isn't hanging in the rafters in Houston considering he starred at Univ. of Houston as well. Sure he never lead them to much of anything during his playing days, but without Coach Fitch playing a 38-year-old Hayes the Rockets weren't getting Hakeem with that #1 pick.
