  1. Upstate NY also has MSG and uses its own feed for the Sabres and some other local programming
  2. The Islanders' news is covered, which means while one arena deal looks to be heading in the right direction... .....HERE COME THE COYOTES
  3. Ignoring the obvious political PR about the Islanders and Hartford today, some new news about our favorites and
  4. Granted you've got to take anything Mangano says with a grain of salt... as per Newsday Islanders discussed possible Coliseum return, Mangano says But yeah, I'm not too too worried with the options on the table. Cuomo's been pushing to get that Belmont site built up as part of all his public works projects, Flushing might be an option on the table to try and keep that LI-outer borough bridge going, and I've always felt the Coliseum would still work out even with the smaller capacity (it is quite a bit smaller than MTS Centre's capacity, but I felt that Winnipeg's made the small arena approach work out nicely so they probably could do the same here)
  5. Growing up in New Hampshire as a little kid I always thought it was really confusing that the Trail Blazers played in the Western Conference if they were in Portland, Maine
  6. Still waiting for the Brooklyn Cyclones to be renamed the Brooklyn Hamiltons based on the play and then we'll finally hit the breaking point from Brandoise
  7. Well we're also quite close to the Nassau Coliseum renovations being done and that was done in mind of having an AHL team come in, so take that for what it's worth Binghamton makes sense to have one of the NYC teams on board so the Rangers going back to them works. Then we can give Las Vegas an expansion AHL team in Elmir (/gets shot for making the Upstate NY AHL joke for the umpteenth time)
  8. Naming a baseball team Heroes is the most Staten Island thing to ever Staten Island and thus why I'm going to guess that will win this competition
  9. Hey now, Binghamton's open now. Ottawa's moving the Baby Sens to Belleville http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/report-sens-to-move-ahl-affiliate-to-belleville/
  10. Las Vegas' AHL affiliate would fit in perfectly in Watertown, New Yo.. [/beaten to death by baseball bats for bringing up the "Every minor league hockey team should be in Upstate NY" joke again]
  11. I will say I like Buck as a baseball announcer, but he still isn't the right fit with football, especially for Fox's A-team.
  12. PART 3 (sorta) OF MY ADVENTURES AT MY 6 MONTH SEASONAL POSITION WITH THE NHL'S FOOTAGE AND LICENSING DEPARTMENT Well, good thing not every NHL e-mail was publicly released or else they'd have to read through quite a few of my "Hey, we need the 1994 Eastern Conference Final and Stanley Cup Final tapes from storage again" e-mails. The Manhattan office has a big tape room (or had, they might've moved it over to Secaucus with the MLB Network move unless they did a big digitization before it) of every game from 1999-2012 (the 2012-13 started going all digital) as well as basically all the Cup finals and most of the playoffs from 1950-1993. Regular season games prior to 99 and the 1993-1998 playoffs were in a storage facility across the river in New Jersey. Needless to say, we had a ton of requests for Rangers 1994 playoff clips, so that might've been my most repeated e-mail sent out.
  13. 1. Stop trying to make color-on-color a thing in everything. Big NFL Playoff or College Football Playoff games should not be color-on color. 2. Helmet endzones for the Super Bowl were good for the team helmet, but look awful with the conference logo on it. I'd either do the helmet of the team-wordmark-conference logo or the modern norm (well, until this year if it's any indication) of team logo-wordmark-conference logo.
  14. The Chiefs always seemed to have a muddled identity with wordmarks and logos, especially when they introduced that Salt City set with the red. Looks like they muddled things up even more. The train identity made sense because the stadium's right next to the Amtrak station and the railroad and didn't want to cause a stir with the Native American imagery (which looks like it's back but not really back?), but they've really overcomplicated things the past couple of years
  15. Man, when you read the lyrics to that song without the music and the random non-union Usher equivalent, it really has to be the top Arc Music Factory song for sheer nonsensical verses (at least in the non-racist-overtone division because "I Love Chinese Food" would then enter the picture)
  16. One of these days I gotta finally put together a thread about my awesome experiences working a six month position with the NHL's footage and licensing department. Most notably DRINKING BEERS 15 FEET AWAY FROM BETTMAN/DALY/SHANAHAN AT THE CHRISTMAS PARTY. But really it was the most fun entry-level job/paid internship ever. To make it Anti-NHL thread worthy, my interview for the position was the same day as THE Glendale hearing.
  17. MEANWHILE IN NEWS ADMIRAL WAS TELLING US ALL ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO AND NOW EVERYONE'S CATCHING UP ON http://www.pensionplanpuppets.com/2015/9/27/9404235/theres-a-lot-of-cocaine-in-the-nhl-viktor-loov-tells-swedish-news
  18. I was with you until the "otherwise solid" Browns comment. I did say just the jersey, as the pants are an absolute disaster. That being said, I'm probably gonna fall into your camp seeing them in action by Week 3 or so (Also I'm still in the camp that the new set was changing for changing's sake and that they didn't need to do anything except make the orange a bit more vibrant)
  19. This one's probably gonna set off a firestorm, but.... /stands up I think the Jets could use a modernization of their 80s-1997 set. Here's my thoughts with what they have. 7 year old me didn't like the throwback inspired uniforms at first when they came out in 1998, mainly the logo more than anything else with the dated looking "NY" in the background. But then over time I came to realize it's a classic looking set and I grew into it. But then Reebok botched up the shoulder stripes. Then Nike came around and not only failed to fix the shoulder stripes, but completely screw up the colors. One solution being thrown around is going back to kelly green so that it would match the Namath-era uniforms and so Nike can actually manage to make a uniform without 4 different shades of green appearing. The issue there though is that although kelly green works very well in most applications, it was too bright and garish and made the transition to the white stripes too abrupt. My fix? Take the previous set, modernize the logo or bring back the jet plane logo and make it white, and go with that. Of course that probably means Nike throws in some needless custom number that derail an otherwise solid jersey like they did with the Browns, but it's gotta be better than 4 shades of green, right?
  20. This might be a huge taek, but personally that navy-to-red fade alt is my favorite Canucks jersey of all time. Sure, the original and current colors are their best combo and fit Vancouver perfectly, plus the 90's black/red/yellow is probably their best set, but there's something about their pre-Edge alt that I love
  21. Was the deadline today? I would have bet that Seattle would have submitted a bid after the Coyotes almost moved back there a couple of years ago. You know, for a city that was on the verge of two winter sports franchises just two years ago, Seattle sure f'ed things up in a hurry. Had the Coyotes moved to Key Arena, I'm sure there'd be more on-the-ground momentum to make the SODO arena happen, which would have likely moved the NBA process along too. Boy, that bumpkin ex-firefighter sure affected quite a bit with his "burning building" speech and subsequent vote. Sometimes representative democracy -- and especially so in exurbs -- just doesn't work. GOTTA REMEMBER THOSE 19 FIREFIGHTERS WHO LITERALLY (1) DIED 3 DAYS AGO BY USING THEIR SPIRIT TO KEEP THE COYOTES IN TOWN, THO
  22. Meanwhile in the latest episode of "Ronda Goes to the Mayor" http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/13072836/10k-donation-nets-arizona-coyotes-fan-chance-use-taser-mayor
  23. I think my feed's a bit behind due to the constant buffering. Sounds like this gonna get fun! EDIT: nvm, we're getting into a broken sidewalk complaint
  24. of course one of the board members who supports the Coyotes is winging this through the phone
