  1. I was gonna say Nike does a good job with NCAA, but 6 months later and I'm still trying to figure out which was Syracuse's and which was Princeton's in the stands at the Women's Frozen Four (though to be fair, ESPNU's potatovision camera didn't help)
  2. well, just move them two and a half hours away to Syracuse and they're set. Kinda throws a wrench in that "All 32 AHL teams in Upstate NY" plan, though
  3. So I'm going out on a limb and guessing that either Peak Lou things are happening and the Islanders aren't doing a 50th anniversary logo this year (they did the 25th in 96-97 and 40th in 11-12) or they're waiting for next year to coincide with 72-73? I don't know, the lockout threw things off-kilter and this is a bit confusing, or it's just Lou saying "no we're not doing one". Either way, the Islanders bucking this stupid one year gold accented third jersey trend for 50th anniversaries is nice Also FWIW no UBS Arena inaugural season patch either
  4. Know I'm a day late on this, but I think the way they could've gone is like the Mighty Ducks example you posted a little later on and match the primary color with burgundy. I know that clashes a bit with the bottom of the home jersey with the burgundy and blue touching, but I think it would look miles better for the road.
  5. Hey now, they finally got them out! ESPN/ABC/ESPN+ TNT and the most hilarious, 2006 NHL on OLN-esque nationally televised (or streamed in this case) simultaneously programmed night of hockey ever conceived
  6. This is really ending up as one of those things that look better in concept but is absolutely terrible in execution. Sure the black was a 4th color in a 4 color scheme, but the blue's really not holding its own each time they try to make it have a larger importance in the uniform whether that be the pant shells or the numbers (the helmet grew on me a bit as the season progressed to "it's fine").
  7. Quite a bit of NHL on NBC spiritual successor feelings like we had expected with some of the early leaks, but I think they have enough new blood to make it their own thing. Having Jonesy in a better situation on the call rather than the studio should work better and I think having Liam a bit more loose like they were after Game 5 this year on NBCSN will be a good thing as well. Obviously love them picking up Burke. Only thing though is compared to ESPN's Too Many Cooks approach where it looks like they've hired anyone and everyone that didn't work at NBC but wanted to do US hockey television, TNT's looks a little thin and they're gonna need another 2 or 3 announcing teams set up come playoff time, especially if it works out where they've got 2 games on TNT and 2 on TBS a night like it's been mumbled about. Probably could say the same for the regular season as I don't think people realize TNT's gonna have a huge bulk of the TV proper national games in the regular season (at least 72!) Oh, and release the blasted national TV schedule already so I know what games I'll need ESPN+ for. OITGDNHL do you have 2 new broadcast partners and it's 4 weeks before the season starts and we still know all of like 10 national telecasts, even a week after getting the Olympic thing out of the way
  8. Funnily enough in Sports Twitter tropes, "how come you guys who like women's college basketball don't like the WNBA?" has become a thing this summer, so now the annual NBA Twitter vs. NCAA Basketball Twitter discourse may finally be coming to the women's game this spring! Anyway, to get a little back on track with the thread, having two new television partners but no national television schedule (with the 2nd new partner still not putting out an official full talent roster press release) 30 days before the season starts is getting quite into the OITGDNHL territory
  9. Coyotes simultaneously drag on the switch back to the Kachina and downgrade the center ice design by going with the primary instead of the moon
  10. Might be well late to this, but I noticed the past Summer Olympics logos went missing and only the Paris 2024 logo is up (as well as the Los Angeles 2028 on a separate page). IOC go full Premier League on the site or just a matter of something falling by the wayside once Tokyo was done and put into the past logos section?
  11. One other thing given I mentioned the NHL, don't be surprised if you start seeing TNT finally announce some NHL personnel moves this week. Have a feeling a lot of the NBC guys that were rumored to go there are still tied up with the Olympics obligations before they're free to go
  12. Eh, put my money on MLB if anything, if only because ESPN ain't letting the NHL streaming rights bounty they just paid for go to anyone else. MLB on the other hand has been pretty liberal in giving away games here and there between YouTube, Facebook, and other services
  13. Missed TEXAS 2 ________ Day every year? Well good news!
  14. For the pocket pro helmet collectors out there, Riddell's finally got the Washington helmets available. I think it's $5.99 rather than the usual $4.99 because it's considered limited edition but it's way better than those shoddy custom made ones going for 30 bucks or more that I saw on ebay last season. Mine should be coming early next week so I'll post that and the new Bills one when it comes. Bringing this back on topic, I know it's par for the course with players reactions to uniforms, but I laugh how earlier in the week they were saying how the sleeves were a "throwback" and in the end it's just a white version of the set they have right now. It is much better than the bone jersey, so I'll at least give them that for clearing that low bar.
  15. This isn't so much on the studio end, but my least favorite thing of the NBA on ESPN has to be the dreaded end of quarter-full length commercial-30 second sponsored highlight clip where the sponsor read takes up 20 seconds of it-full length commercial stretch. TNT doesn't do it but ESPN sure loves that 5 minutes of ads strategy. I don't know why it's not uniform for a quarter break leaguewide and why there's a discrepancy between the two national broadcasters, but it's there
  16. Excuse me that's the GREATEST. DIVISION. IN SPORTS. to you! (It's true because Fox, NBC, and ESPN make sure to always put them front and center)
  17. It's the run of the mill stealth style jersey that's been used by a few teams, but it seems to work with that red. I wouldn't promote it to alternate status but it's fine for the Stadium Series
  18. After the first day or two of working out the kinks, gotta say I'm digging these font choices
  19. Well, with Kenny Albert and Eddie O heading over to TNT, it's pretty much the NHL on NBC in spirit anyway
  20. Hey now, if anything, we one of the ESPNs or FS1 to fully commit their December mornings and afternoons to THE DARTS (NBCSN would've been perfect if not for the "no longer existing" part)
  21. So a week after thinking we were going real OITGDNHL with no word on the B package and the ESPN announcement leaving a bad taste in everyone's mouths to the point that they still only would have one broadcast partner, the NHL manages to get above their asking price and get 7 years/225M per from Turner. On one hand having every other year's Stanley Cup Final on cable after finally landing every game OTA for the first time on ABC is a bit of a step back, but man at that price it's hard for the NHL to balk at that, especially with NBC lowballing and Fox not wanting to go that high. Also with the Winter Classic on Turner and them under the same umbrella as HBO, we could see a revival of 24/7 coming next season
  22. If it weren't for Chris Johnston's report on Saturday Headlines I'd say something along the lines of "offering two TV packages, then making a huge celebration for the A package to the point no one else wants the B package and you end up with just one broadcast partner anyway would probably get real peak OITGDNHL," but it's looking like Fox will save me from posting that later this week if nothing else was coming out about those negotiations
