  1. Hey man did you see? The Royals finished 70-92, we're in 24th place! I'm PUMPED for the best-of-three with a home team ghost win coming up, all we have to do is win the elimination game against our interleague pre-All Star break division standings equivalent! October baseball man this is one hell of a season for our boys

  2. The first three playoff systems MLB had were right for their times, though I think the LCS format should have started in 1962 instead of '69, and the wildcard format should have started right when they expanded in 1993 instead of waiting a year.

The original wildcard system was perfect. The WC game was stupid, though it is kind of funny to force the teams who couldn't win their divisions to play in a joke one-game playoff.  The format they have now is just embarrassing. Letting more teams in made winning the division mean nothing, winning the pennant mean almost nothing, and because of those it indirectly made winning the World Series mean less.

Other than not issuing #6, are teams going to be forced to "acknowledge" this by hanging banners?  Specifically, are the Sixers going to need to hang a second #6 banner next to Dr. J's... or would they be in compliance since 6 is already retired?

I'm fairly certain that all MLB teams display Robinson's 42 in a similar way that they do their other numbers, but I think that's a little different (and other than Mariano Rivera, I'm not sure how many 42s were already retired in MLB, vs at least a handful in NBA.)

Bruce Sutter is the only other 42 retired

  4. Hawaii would be a lot of fun, but realistically I can't see the USFL even considering it this far into their alt history. With a couple other franchises on shaky ground, I doubt they'd put a team somewhere everybody would expect it to fail. They'd shoot for stability.

Adding this because it's a helpful visual:

Nice gimmick where they have two distinct uniform sets, even though the Classic and Color Rush are under two separate uniform programs.

This whole Nike classification deal is weird. Also note that it's "Blue" and "White," but not "Home" and "Road." As someone who has never gotten over "Icon," "Association," "Statement," and "Earned," this looks like bad things ahead for the NFL :(

While reading the comments to a recent JaguarGator9 video the other day, I came across a really dumb objection to something I've never heard anyone have a problem with: an apparent fellow Sconnie thinks no one should call the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the Bucs.  Because they might get confused for the Milwaukee Bucks.  😑 I wish I was making this up.

Never mind that the topic was an official's actions before and during a Packers-Bucs game, making it rather obvious the Tampa Bay football team was meant, rather than the Milwaukee basketballers.  Never mind that sane people understand that "Buccaneers" is a mouthful, and so find "Bucs" an accepted shorthand...convenient enough that I'd guess "Bucs" is spoken by announcers in every game they've ever played way more often than "Buccaneers".  Oh well, dude can have fun with his dumb reasoning.

I'm not going to argue the semantics of it but it's clear how sock stripes affect the aesthetics when you compare those photos to these

In 1965, half of the AFL's 8 teams wore all white for their away uniform, not counting the Chiefs, Broncos, and Oilers who wore white over white but with non-white helmets.

All of those teams wore contrasting socks. All-white means white jerseys, pants, and socks.

Hey now I'm pretty sure ownership spent into the high six, if not seven figures on this rebrand to not just freshen up their logo and uniforms but to position themselves as a premium lifestyle brand along the lines of louis vuitton, rolls royce etc. Reverting back to throwbacks would seriously downgrade their premium brand status to that of a franchise owner of a mid century upstart pro football league. I honestly don't understand how you could possibly drive brand activation and engagement with such a positioning. Seems like a big mistake to me.

I would love if the owner lost money in exchange for a better logo

  10. Miami "updating" their look to make it as sleek and soulless as possible really went under the radar as one of the worst rebrands the league's ever seen. It's akin to if the Celtics decided their logo needed mOdErNiZiNg. Dunno who the owner is but he clearly has a huge ego if he thought he was fixing a well-loved look represented by the likes of Dan Marino, Don Shula,  and the only perfect team in history

Dolphins: white helmet, orange jersey, orange pants, orange socks.

Great job, NFL/Nike/owners/whoever is to blame for this.

Every piece of a uniform being the same color is not any better

Each team has 17 games in a season, so I dunno how you think they're gonna get to the point of overabundance unless they either massively increase the length of the season (which I assure you the NFLPA would be pissed about) or have a different jersey for most of those 17 games (which quickly becomes a branding nightmare, another thing the league would not want).

The reason other pro leagues can have more jerseys is they have much longer seasons than the NFL; the NBA and NHL have an 82-game season, and MLB has 162 games.

There's more to NFL uniforms than jerseys. I don't think the Jags wore the same uniform combo twice last season and that's without an extra helmet. Multiple teams in the league already have muddled identities

but at least they put rules in place to preserve brands.

Their alt helmet rules are already not being enforced lol. The avalanche from home & away uniforms to color rush to extra alt to loosening other rules to alt helmets has happened in a relatively short period and it's not gonna stop.
