The argument that it won't turn into Euro-league levels of advertising never made much sense to me, considering it was the same justification for why there wouldn't be ads on the uniforms at all.

It's really incredible how the mentality of having either uniform ads or incessant commercials, but not both, has been collectively forgotten. People just accept both now and get really annoyed if you complain that things used to be better.

Texas getting ranked after a loss while Marshall and App State are still out after wins is only one way in which college football has shown that it's just a parody of itself.

The other being Nebraska refusing to wait a few weeks and instead just torching $7.5 million for no reason. We've reached peak embarrassment for Frost's Nebraska. Waiting to lose to Oklahoma and maybe Indiana isn't going to hurt anything.

If you watched that Texas game and didn't get the impression they're one of the 25 best teams in the country I dunno what to tell ya

Please let us all know the next time you turn down money that's offered to you, like a raise at your job.

  4. Congrats to the Gold on finally getting over the hump 👍

Also @WideRight I noticed in one of your recent entries you mentioned the Bills and Vikings winning Super Bowls. Do you have a full alt history of the SB or is it just something you throw in on occasion in your writeups?

Did the Red Sox cheat? Yes. Did 90% of baseball do the same thing? Yes. Did the Astros take it a step further? Yes.

However, the "we can with without, just look at the year we didnt win the World Series" is an odd take.

They've been in 5 straight ALCS and won 3 pennants. There's no denying they're a very good team.

And the last of the 3, the new look for the Atlanta Fire, still trying to get a foothold on the sports market in Atlanta (and still waiting for a winning season).  Will a new look in 2002 help them along?  (Or will they improve in 2001 and kick off a new look with a winning club in 2002?)

The new flame design adorns the helmet, and the new A logo is on the pants and the sleeves.  The basic jersey design is not changed, though the collars now contain an ombre effect shifting from gold to red or white to gold.  The numbers do the same, with gold at the top of both sets.  No pant stripes (We will see how long this lasts) but three pant sets, with the orange being the least used to be sure.

Big improvement compared to their former unis. For such a moribund franchise, Atlanta has a great aesthetic. Wish I could see these on a real life field

it will shift again, perhaps 2 times, before we finish the league.

How far are you taking the alt history? Present day?

Ok, here we go again, the second of 3 new looks for 2002.   Here are the Philadelphia Stars.  It is hard to portray using the template and colors I have available, but the gold for Philly remains a very saturated metallic gold, not the yellow used in the actual 2022 USFL Stars.  So, metallic gold pants and helmet to go with the red jersey.  Philly is the first of our clubs to go with a stripeless pant set, but only in gold, not white.   You can also see (particularly if you zoom) that the orange is used very sparingly in the sleeve stripes and as part of the logo.  We will see if it becomes more visible in later iterations of their uniform.

This rules. I love that Philly's kept the same logo, it's a classic

I will scream this from the rooftops every time these uniforms are brought up: WHY THE HELL DID THE RAMS HALFASS A SWITCH TO BLUE AND WHITE AND THEN JUST COMPLETELY THROW IT AWAY LIKE 3 YEARS LATER. IT LOOKED SO FREAKING BAD AND MADE NO SENSE, EVEN MORE SO WHEN THEY UNVEILED THEIR NEW SET

The white elements were to ingratiate themselves with the old LA fanbase, and, then the rebrand was an attempt to make as much money as possible by chasing trends

The Cardinals are one of the oldest franchises in the league. If they became a white and red version of the Raiders, it would be very fitting.

They are the oldest franchise in the league, by a good margin. The team was established in 1898

I'll be crossing your name off the invite list for my summer BBQs because you're not coordinated enough to play football, baseball, or basketball with a beer in your hand.

If you ask me, softball isn't a sport unless you do have a beer in your hand 😎

As to Washington, they probably had to distance themselves from the previous uniform so that they could distance themselves from the name. Yes, it would have looked better than what they have now, but it truly wasn't an option, IMO.

The Guardians and the Elks both kept their same basic uniforms and even chose names vaguely connected to the ones they had to get rid of. Everyone moved on with their lives once the changes were made. Washington could have done the absolute bare minimum of swapping the logo and changing 4 letters in their old name and we would not be here 2 years later still discussing the controversy
