Sens should have made better updates to the logo like the Sabres did.

The Sharks are heavily rumored to return to their roots as well. If they do, they need to take notes from the Sabres, Padres, Brewers, Buccaneers, and Chargers. IMO, there a right and wrong way to make a traditional-inspired uniform look appealing at the same time.

    Gotcha, yeah I agree

Best alternate they've had, yes.  I would give anything to see a modern version of the storm alternate.

I'm probably on a island all by myself on this one, but the storm Lightning jersey is the best jersey they ever had. One of my favorites from back in the day. Wouldn't want it as a full time home and road set though, but it was nice as a every-once-in-while way.

    How about those?

I played on my high school's hockey team. Our colours were red, white, and grey. One of my friends on the team once said "we should have neon green and black alternates." I asked why and he said, I'm not joking, "they'd be sick."

I can't help but think of that when I see the neon green and black Stars sweaters.

lmao well you can't really expect normal people who don't post on this board to have good taste in sports uniforms when even some posters on this very board liked the Stars neon alt! But then again, what do we know, we're just two whiny and out of touch millennial boomers

The reason I think the neon green alternate is a meme jersey is because...well...the Stars have embraced being a meme franchise. It started with internet snark invading their jumbotron graphics. And evolved into them being one of the first pro teams to go full internet humour/meme culture on social media.

Okay I get where you're coming from I think. I had forgotten about the corny jumbotron memes. Fair enough, that's a good point

Fitteds are definitely a safe choice. The biggest issue with hats is the inconsistency in sizing. Like I said earlier I have a pretty large ballhat collection, and part of the reason for that is that finding a hat that actually fits me is rare enough that I feel I'm missing out if I don't buy it.  So when I find myself trying on a hat in a store and it actually fits my head the way I like I end up buying it.

Snapbacks, on top of looking like you won them from a claw machine most of the time, rarely fit, and when they do its usually only backwards and then you're stuck looking like a pokemon trainer.

Dad hats almost always fit, but they also permanently look slouched and beaten.

A truly well fitting fitted hat is amazing, but its like finding a needle in a hay stack. I've had sizes up from what I normally wear be too small and sizes down too large. There is no consistency or quality control, I've ordered several 59/50s online and ultimately sent them all back.  I'll only buy them in stores if I can try them on first. I prefer New Era, but as much as people crap on Fanatics I've found their fitted hats actually consistently fit the same across the board much better than New Era.

Maybe its because I'm approaching my 30s, but I've started liking the 39/30s/FlexFits more and more, which is somewhere between a dad hat and a fitted. They feel like a nice age appropriate compromise where they still have the somewhat rigid structure of a fitted with the comfort and fit of a dad hat.

Thank you for coming to my TedTalk about baseball hats.

You're absolutely right, New Era's QC is NON-EXISTANT. So frustrating. Forget about ever buying hats online

Well, the Jersey isn't that awful, just extremely disappointing imo. They were this close to having a really nice alternate but they blew it

Well, Dad hats are the best hat and everyone can wear them. Fitted hats are a dicey style choice to wear even above the age of 20, and just unconscionable over the age of 30.

Dad hats look weird on my head. I see nothing wrong with fitted hats if you curve the brim and remove the stickers as Chromatic said. I think you meant snapbacks?

I know it is a tiny sample, but I do not see anyone in the stands wearing the Jersey sweater.  If it is a meme jersey AND isn't selling, that should put an end to it pretty quickly

Well. let's put it that way, if you were a Devils fan, would you buy that jersey? Yeah that's what I thought lol

Agreed, they should probably shelf it before the joke gets too stale

Gonna have to dig deeper than that. Dad shoes and the rest of the stereotypical parent clothes have passed through the thin veil of fashion cycles and irony into being hip and cool amongst the youngin's.

I know I was just joking, although they tried pushing Monarchs as a fashionable sneaker a few years ago but those will NEVER be cool lol. Besides, I already have two pairs of white New Balance sneakers and a pair of relaxed fit light blue jeans so I'm set if I ever wanna rock some dad outfits!

I'm turning 30 soon, all I need now is some crispy white Nike Monarchs and I'm officially an old out-of-touch man

I'm convinced that was what was behind the Dallas Stars' neon green alternates.

Hmm. I dunno, I think they just jumped on the stealth bandwagon. Or possibly a Color Rush attempt to gain the approval of NFL/Cowboys fans, which was even more obvious with the mono white RR. But I'm curious, I'd like hear your opinion on that

Chris Sale, at the time was employed by the Chicago White Sox, literally destroyed a jersey so it could not be worn…or so I’m told. Don’t make crappy merchandise and people won’t call it a moo-terus

I just hope it doesn't become a trend. Making crappy jerseys on purpose just to gain some meme internet points/notoriety that probably won't even lead to more jersey sales, just something that people will quickly forget once they decided it was no longer funny anymore and have run the joke into the ground. Or maybe they were incredibly misguided and genuinely thought people would like them? Not sure if that would be better or worse

Instead of wearing it as a joke, they should have taken the overwhelmingly negative fan reception into account and decide against wearing it. Something about wearing a crappy jersey ironically and then pretending they're in on the joke is incredibly pathetic to me. I don't find any of this amusing at all

Or maybe I've just become a millennial boomer

Okay so have I become an old man who yells at clouds and should I just chill or is this deeply disrespectful and childish? It's one thing to make tweets as a fan or even as the NHL's marketing account aimed at a younger crowd but to actually treat a professional team's jersey as the butt of the joke and paint that on your mask when you're employed by the team? Doesn't sit right with me

Makes the whole thing a joke basically. A meme jersey

I disagree.  Having traditional, horizontal striping alone does not equal a good jersey...

Do designers even bother with the striping anymore?   How many recolours & slight variations of this tired template are we going to see passed off as something new...  There are many things you can do with horizontal stripes, just look at the league in 1991.  Would it kill them to put in some effort?

    2cJUsxM.jpg

Agreed. To be fair, earlier in the thread I described the template as slightly boring ahah.  But I mean I still prefer basic/boring to offensively ugly and wacky Stadium Series style

It has everything to do with what you’re saying. You are saying a jersey is good except for the crest but you just can’t do that. The crest is the most important and most prominent part. It is the main part of any jersey and when that part is as ridiculous as “Smash Ville” it becomes the worst jersey to ever exist.

I can't do that? Says who? You? I absolutely can say that if both jerseys were blank, Nashville's would be better because traditional horizontal striping will always look better than asymmetrical futuristic gimmicky crap and I'm not exclusively fixating on the logo like you are. I can absolutely say that an easy fix would have been to just use the regular logo since the jersey itself isn't that bad

You're just arguing for the sake or arguing, don't bother replying I'm done with you

    lol what?

the lightning jersey is 100x better than Nashvilles.

In the same way dog vomit is 100x better than human excrement?

I'm not just talking about the logos here, I'm talking about the uniforms. They both suck but at least the Preds jersey looks like a hockey jersey, and from the nosebleeds or on a small TV, if you squint hard, it might even look semi-decent. The Bolts jersey is just the average Stadium Series "futuristic" garbage. I have nothing nice to say about it

  14. 50 minutes ago, dont care said:

You can’t take the crest away and determine the quality of the jersey based on that because it is the most prominent part of the jersey. It’s the same reason people couldn’t say the bucs had an ok jersey if you changed from the alarm clock numbers because they were the most prominent part of those jerseys. Smash ville is ridiculous and is without a doubt the worst crest to ever be put on a sweater. It’s even worse than wild wing, or Burger King.

My point is that the Smashville script ruins an otherwise perfectly fine and traditional hockey jersey with horizontal striping. If they had released the same exact jersey but with their regular logo on it, do you think it would have been so poorly received? Not a chance

The Bolts jersey on the other hand is an asymmetrical mess that looks like an 8 year old's drawing, let alone the dumb nickname logo/script, which to me automatically makes it worse than Nashville's jersey. You can't even redeem it by slapping a normal hockey logo on it, it's that bad

Not sure what you're talking about here, this has nothing to do with what I'm saying

  15. Just now, IceCap said:

The SMASHVILLE sweater. It's my easy choice for worst NHL sweater of all time.

Gotcha. Honestly I find the Bolts jersey worse because even if you swapped the dumb script for a logo, it'd still look like hot garbage for all the reasons I stated earlier.

The Smashville jersey itself looks okay, with the usual sabretooth head logo, it would have been perfectly fine I think. Maybe a bit boring but not offensively bad

Arguing about which jersey is worse is kinda pointless as they're both terrible 🤣

    You're not wrong.

But it just got released alongside the single worst sweater in NHL history. So it looks passable by comparison.

Which one, Jersey or Smashville? lmao. Either way, not exactly a good year for new jerseys. Other than the Blues and Coyotes maybe? Definitely more bad than good, just as I thought the league as a whole hadn't looked that good in decades, the crappy new jerseys keep on coming and coming and coming

  17. 17 minutes ago, DTConcepts said:

I guess I'm in the minority, but I really like the Lightning sweater. It's new and futuristic without being unbearably gaudy. I'm not a fan of the BOLTS script, but I do like the striping a lot.

Stadium Series are meant to push the envelope of jersey design. The Lightning do it fantastically. The Preds? Not so much.

I usually keep it polite, as unbiased as possible and try to avoid sounding like an arrogant douche who thinks his opinions are facts (granted, I often still sound like an arrogant douche lol) and just say "well, personally I don't like it" or something along those lines, but that Lightning uniform is pure dog💩. Literally not a single redeeming thing about it except maybe the silver trim. The stripes suck, the font sucks, the Bolts script sucks, the huge logo on the pants sucks, it's just a terrible jersey. Legit in the top 10 worst jerseys of all time. An objectively bad jersey, if you will.
