Each team should do what fits their brand the best. They shouldn't even put an ounce of thought into how similar it looks to another team.
I mean if you are part of a pro sports league your brand doesn't exist in a vacuum. You obviously want to prioritize your own brand, but not putting any consideration into what other teams are doing is how you end up with a Tampa Bay Lightning situation. The whole point of uniforms in sports is so you can turn on a game and immediately know who's playing.

I've been keeping an eye on the Senators to see if they would ever do anything with their 30th anniversary logo we only ever got the odd glimpse of (I also keep an eye on the Senators because they are my team). So far for this 30th logo, there's been no patches on the jersey, nothing in the arena, nothing on merchandise... but all of a sudden on a post advertising Alfredsson's hall of fame induction, they stuck a black version on the footer of the poster (when previously we only ever saw the white version on a black background)
Is this earth-shattering logo news? No. No it isn't. But I like the logo and wanted to see more, so here it is in black. Hopefully we see more of it and get a nice high-res version as well...
Ian Mendes did a recent mailbag article for The Athletic, and someone had asked about the logo (and the 30th anniversary celebrations in general). Based on his response it sounds like they wanted to start the season with a focus on the current/new players, but that we should see more mentions of the anniversary as the year goes on.
It seems like after Alfie's HoF induction this weekend they will start doing more celebration stuff (especially since the excitement around all the new players/contract extensions is wearing off quickly based on their recent play).

Just more proof that the Caps need to bring back the black/gold/bronze color scheme.
It feels like the cycle of nostalgia has completed its rotation when it comes to the Capitals. When they rebranded to their current look people were applauding the return to red, white, & blue. Now with late-90s/early 00s trends coming back all of a sudden people want the old colours.
If they did switch colours I’m sure in another 20 years people would be calling for a return to r/w/b. Especially since it’s associated with a championship & the majority of Ovi’s career.

I initially thought it was a joke based on Reynolds’ tweet that was the source of the report, but during the intermission last night they mentioned that he’s actually been in touch with the bank the Sens are working with on the sale.
Obviously he doesn’t have the resources on his own, but having him be the face of a new ownership group would be amazing. He’s an incredibly likable star who has ties to the city. I’ve been watching the Wrexham FC docu-series, and he clearly has a passion for running a sports team.

So something interesting from the Kraken. They will be introducing a thrid jersey for the 2023-24 season and there was a reason why the Metropolitians weren't used as a reverse retro.

I’m guessing they want to save the Metros jerseys for when they inevitably host a Winter Classic.-

I can't really explain why white hockey pants never work, but they never work. They always look silly. Maybe it's because they look like a big diaper?
I think it’s because it’s the only sport that uses a white playing surface. The pants usually end up with scuffs & puck marks, so they end up looking dingy compared to the clean white ice.
Football, baseball, and basketball have green/brown playing surfaces so the white pants/shorts work better.

A franchise they have no ties to from a city they don't play in? Maybe in 10 years when we've reached NBA levels of scraping the bottom of the barrel for ideas then we can try that.
I mean it’s not like any other franchises are going to reference the Barons, and they had a very Ohio-centric brand which works better for Columbus than it does for Cleveland. The Blue Jackets uniform history isn’t very deep anyway, so I don’t think it’d be a bad way to go.

I'm having trouble trying to find a media conspiracy here.
Oh you didn’t realize? Only teams who play in cities where it snows are entitled to positive media coverage. Any other time you see it happening it’s because the all-seeing Lord Bettman pressed a button under his desk triggering an army of social media accounts.

That seems like a bit of a stretch. The shade of green isn't the same, the sleeve/hem striping is completely different from anything the North Stars wore, the green jersey uses a phantom yoke instead of a white one, and the Stars never wore lace-up collars.
I'm sure the decision to wear green was meant to be a nod to the North Stars history, but the Wild brand has always felt like its own thing.

Carolina announced they'll be wearing black equipment with their RR. So they'll basically be looking like Rangers/Devils hybrids:

Feels like there are a lot more uninspired designs than the last RR release. I really like the Sharks, Caps, Wild, Coyotes, Pens, Rangers, Panthers, Stars, and Ducks (although seeing them with orange pants might change my mind). The Flyers, Red Wings, and Habs are the worst of the bunch, and the rest are just meh.
I feel like if you weren't told that Montreal was doing a nod to the Expos, you would have no idea just from looking at the jersey. The Expos powder blue uniforms featured a lot of red, so I expected the Habs to include more in their design. They should have gone with the vertical racing stripes down the sleeve instead of their standard chest stripe.
Ottawa should have filled the chest swoop stripes with white & made the bottom of the sleeves white to help it stand out from the home jersey a bit more. It feels like since they rebranded they've been afraid of using the 3D logo. I do get it since the fans really wanted to see it gone, but I think people would have been fine if it were just on the front of this jersey.

Well the Sens rumours might not have been right. The teaser they just posted shows the number font from the 3D logo jerseys.

The second leak today...adidas should skip the lame teasers and just unveil all of them.
I guess they were worried about the contrast between navy & black so they went with royal blue on the sleeves. Not sure why there isn't any red stripes anywhere though.

We have our first leak of the day:
The assumption was that Nashville was going to do a navy version of this jersey, but they just changed the shade from mustard to their standard yellow. A bit of a cop out (similar to the Rangers & Flames last year), but still a nice looking jersey.

Also, Ottawa missed an opportunity to bring back the
CivicsNationals jersey from the WHA, and re-apply their colour scheme to boot.Yeah, I've thought that would be a cool idea. Just tweak the logo to make the N into an S, and change the blue stripes to black.

But in a few years when they make that jersey the new home, which will happen sooner or later, it's happened with many other teams going back to an original Jersey, then going to black shorts would probably be an improvement.
Red jerseys with black pants is already Chicago & New Jersey's home look, and was the primary look for Ottawa & Calgary for a long time. Carolina already has a hard enough time standing out from all the red & black teams, they don't need to look even more like them.
On 10/16/2022 at 10:47 AM, Ricky_Roby said:According to @AliMurji - his source suggest this is what the Senators Reverse Retro will be.
If so... that's a shame. So boring. I thought their last RR in red was ok but lacked any sense of fun or originality. This one even more so. Not a bad design on its own, just a missed opportunity to maybe use the peace tower script as part of their 30th season... this just feels like their regular home jersey with red sleeves. Woopity doo.
I'm not sure why that mock up has black stripes behind the sleeve numbers. Apparently this was the original plan for last season's RR, but they pivoted to a red jersey once they decided to rebrand to the black 2D as the primary. They even have RR hoodies still on sale that use the original prototype striping.
They're definitely playing it safe with this choice, which is a bit disappointing. Maybe they'll go with red numbers outlined in white to make it stand out from the home jersey.

The NHL is in the worst of both worlds, where online fans are re-embracing the terrible aesthetics of the late '90s and early 2000s that people hated at the time while embracing the small southern markets that people at least had the good sense to resent at the time. Jerking off over both the fire-snorting horse and the entire Carolina Hurricanes organization is just, man, never thought I'd see the day.
Maybe it’s a good thing that a lot people have come to their senses and realized that resenting new markets & fanbases who are interested in hockey wasn't in the best interest of the sport.
But don’t worry, I still see plenty of people who see southern markets as a threat to their Canadian/Northeastern/Midwestern sensibilities instead of a sign that the sport is growing.
As for the uniform trends, these things are always cyclical. The fad of ‘90s/‘00s over the top designs coming back will fade.

Arizona has announced a partnership with a fashion designer, and the announcement includes two empty coat hangers next two the home & away jersey. Looks like they'll be wearing a new alternate in addition to the reverse retro.

I don't really have a problem with their current logo in design, it does look to me like a dolphin swimming. I just think it looks more soulless than their previous logo, which had its own flaws. As far as the jerseys go, I prefer the throwbacks but don't have a problem with the modern ones either. I just want them to pick one.
It feels a bit like when the Pittsburgh Penguins switched from the skating penguin to the robo-penguin. It wasn't a bad look, and seemed a little more professional, but most fans felt like it was too much of a soulless corporate mark. Pittsburgh went back to the old kitschier logo, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Dolphins end up doing the same eventually.

I think if you go black pants, you may as well go all with a black helmet as well.
Not necessarily. The Rangers & Blue Jackets wear red pants & blue helmets with their home jerseys. Vegas wears black pants & grey helmets with their grey jerseys.

2022-2023 NHL Jersey Changes
in Sports Logo News

That would be kind of tricky since their current home & aways are pretty much the same as their inaugural uniforms, and they already did a red version for the last RR.
