  1. The amount of comments I've heard from casual uniform observers saying "why aren't the Canucks wearing these full time" shows just how much nostalgia clouds judgement. They literally made black their primary colour in the '70s because they wanted to look more "aggressive", and came up with a bizarre logo that's just a skate & the team name, but looks more like a planet or a plate of spaghetti. It also didn't help that Calgary added black in the '90s, so they had the same colours, albeit arranged differently.
  2. The most recent episode of the series Pam & Tommy featured a flashback to Pamela Anderson being discovered at a BC Lions game in Vancouver. They didn't get every detail right, but I was surprised how much merch they featured. They did get the wrong CFL logo on the ball though:
  3. Yeah the gradients remind me a bit of the Sens scrapped 25th anniversary logo. I'm sure the flat version of the logo will look better.
  4. The Canes have released the patch celebrating the 25th anniversary of their move to NC:
  5. There's not a chance the Sens are going anywhere. If Melnyk decides he finally wants to sell the team, or the league forces him to, there are plenty of potential buyers who would keep the team in Ottawa. And the league would also block any attempt from Melnyk to relocate the team on his own. Ottawa is the 4th largest Canadian market, has one of the highest median household incomes in the country, and has a lot more corporate dollars than QC. The lack of competent ownership & a downtown arena is all that is holding them back, and Bettman knows this.
  6. I actually wouldn't mind if they used that helmet design as the basis for the jersey sleeves.
  7. Yeah, that's a funny connection, and one of my favourite cheap owner stories in sports history. But it would be hard to believe that the team would embrace a joke at their own expense. This is an original 6 franchise, not the Hurricanes.
  8. Not bad, but I'm not sure what the point is of having "ARENAS" in blue. It's barely visible from 10 feet away, let alone outside in a football stadium. It almost looks like they sewed on white letters, then changed their mind & pulled out the stitching. Some cream or brown pants/gloves would look good with the jersey.
  9. The Sabres don't look bad, but it's a little too close to their main set. I think it would've been better if they swapped the main logo out for the shoulder patch. It also doesn't help that the Blues had a very similar jersey for the Winter Classic. The Leafs have already done the Arenas throwback, so maybe they go with the more basic version this time:
  10. Goff had some decent years because of the team around him. As soon as Gurley fell off and the o-line started to show some cracks, he got exposed. McVay didn't even trust him with the full playbook. I don't know if Stafford is a HoFer, but there's not a chance Goff would have been able to win a Super Bowl with the team putting up 43 total rushing yards.
  11. People are saying you're trolling because you tried to make it sound like the Lions traded Stafford for Goff straight up. It was clearly a downgrade at the position, which is why they got a boatload of picks in exchange for taking on his contract.
  12. A green Canucks jersey on this template would be great. Just throw the stick in rink on the chest:
  13. Quite the coincidence that Stone's injury starts acting up just before they need to clear space to activate Eichel.
  14. You didn't notice him because the Bengals o-line was double/triple teaming him on most plays. When a guy is good enough to draw that much attention it opens things up for other players, which is why the Rams were able to tie the record for sacks in a Super Bowl.
  15. The Thrashers moved because there was literally no one in the state of Georgia that was interested in buying them & keeping them there. It had nothing to do with the arena situation. Whether you like it or not, the Coyotes have an ownership group that is committed to the market. As long as there's a faint possibility of them getting approval for the new arena they won't be going anywhere.
  16. Unfortunately for him the MVP votes still need to be in by the 2 minute warning for some reason. If they're voting after the game, the stops on 3rd & 1 then 4th & 1 would've probably tipped the scales in his favour.
  17. More like a decade of awful side panels & clashing flag patches has made blasty look a lot better by comparison.
  18. The NHL isn't going to fold a franchise. They obviously don't want a team in Quebec City, but if this new Tempe arena doesn't get approved it will probably end up being a Thrashers situation where they have no other choice. I'm sure Bettman would prefer Houston as the plan B, but there is no indication that anyone there is interested in owning a team. Obviously neither one is ideal, but as far as temporary arena situations go, I'd take a brand new 5000 seat arena over a 10,000-13,000 dump that's 60 years old. They have an ownership group that's committed to the market (for now), so Bettman isn't going to force a sale. The ownership group is heavily involved in sports betting, which has quickly become a big revenue driver for the league. Gambling has a large presence in the state of Arizona, with the DBacks, Suns, and Cardinals all opening up sportsbooks in their venues. Greater Phoenix is also one of the largest television markets in the country. Considering how much ESPN/TNT just paid for the national rights, it wouldn't look great if they immediately pulled out of the market.
  19. You're right, I can't believe what drastic changes the Oilers have made to their dynasty uniforms.
  20. I do agree that you shouldn't always revert to a championship look. I think most people would prefer to see the Ducks go back to their Disney look instead of the championship look. But like @IceCap said, the Kings situation is different. Aside from the Miracle on Manchester, they were largely irrelevant in the purple & gold. The acquisition of Gretzky, and the switch to black & silver marked a turning point for the franchise. They added purple back into the scheme, and faded back into mediocrity. They then went back to black & silver, and won the Cups almost immediately after. I'm not opposed to them tweaking the primary look. I'd like to see just a crown as the crest, and the piping removed, but don't need any wholesale changes. Keep the purple & gold around for alternates/throwback nights.
  21. Like @Lights Out said, this always seemed bush league to me. It's as if the NBA didn't want to pay for actual All Star uniforms, so they just told guys to bring their own. I don't love it for baseball either, but at least every MLB team uses a white (or close to it) home uniform & a grey (or close to it) road jersey. I also like the idea of All Star-specific jerseys for people who want to buy a jersey of a player they like, but who happens to play for a team they aren't a fan of. For example, I wanted to buy a Wayne Gretzky jersey, but wasn't interested in wearing an Oilers/Kings/Blues/Rangers jersey. Instead I bought one of the orange Campbell conference All Star jerseys.
  22. This might be the laziest BFBS uniform in the history of sports. They literally took the white jersey from that era, made the base black instead of white, and changed nothing else. The 49ers did the same thing, but they at least have a history of using black to some extent.
  23. First of all, the Oilers still use the same logo & jersey template. They just darkened the blue & made orange the home colour. Can't really compare that with the Kings. Secondly, I think it's just a matter of time until the oilers go back to the royal blue.
  24. The black & silver is associated with the franchise's only Stanley Cups, and the greatest player in the history of the sport. It won't be going anywhere. I'm sure purple & gold will be part of the alternate rotation, much like the Devils' green & red, or the Canucks skate throwback though. This allows them to have their cake and eat it too.
  25. The issue with this event was that it was too easy to get to 21. They should have let the players see the cards for their first 2 shots, but then they should have turned the cards over after that. Would have been more like actual blackjack where taking a hit gives you a random card. As we get through another year of people complaining about the All Star Weekend, here are a few changes I would make: For the skills competition, they shouldn't restrict the events to only include players named to the actual All Star Game. Poll the players & coaches to figure out who the actual fastest skaters, hardest shooters, etc. are. This would make the events more exciting when you aren't trying to shoehorn guys into events they're going to struggle with Some events I'd like to see added: fastest skater with a puck, goalies goal scoring Bring back the young stars game. Could be rookies vs sophomores or U23 Europe vs. N. America Every team should have representation at the weekend, but not necessarily the game itself. A young stars game would allow you to invite kids from the lottery teams and not worry about throwing a plug on the actual All Star team Go back to 2 teams, 5 on 5 for the actual All Star Game. I liked the draft, but East vs. West would be alright too If a player has been to 5 ASGs already, they should be allowed to decline without penalty. However the league should still have them involved in the events, even if it's just as an ambassador
