  1. They wouldn't really be relaxed rules. Teams would still only be able to wear 2 uniforms throughout the playoffs (unlike the NBA or MLB). Teams can already designate a third jersey as the home uniform for the playoffs, so you being upset about the stealth looks showing up in the playoffs is a different argument altogether. If the Jets & Coyotes were to face off in a series it would just look like a pre-2003 matchup with both teams wearing white at home. The Panthers' & Avs' blue pants work on the road because they match the numbers.
  2. They announced a rebrand to black, white, and yellow using the hashtag "Purpleisback", scrambled to include the throwback jerseys in the rotation this coming season, and already showed purple jerseys that will be worn in 23-24. They might not be the primaries right away, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time. For this thread I wasn't really considering teams that rebranded due to a relocation.
  3. That’s why I’ve advocated for changing the rules to allow teams to designate any uniform they want as the home set for the duration of the playoffs. Knowing ahead of time shouldn’t cause any logistics issues, and teams like the Jets & Coyotes can match the fans.
  4. With the Oilers returning to their old uniforms once again, this is going to go down as a wrong look for McDavid.
  5. Why is the wordmark arched so drastically? The originals didn't look like that and it just leaves a ton of empty space along the sides.
  6. Where did you hear that? Every report I've seen has said that the grey is being dropped altogether, and a new black third jersey is going to be introduced, along with a new RR.
  7. Apparently Bill Foley thought that the grey jerseys being worn by fans in the stands blended into the seats too much, and he wanted something that popped more. I'm sure at some point the greys will be brought back. Especially in 10-15 years once the nostalgia for the inaugural Cup run ramps up.
  8. Exceptional status doesn't necessarily equal amazing upside. People obviously think of Tavares/Ekblad/McDavid, but there are also guys like Joe Veleno & Sean Day who were granted it. Wright was never labeled a generational talent, and it seems like his ceiling is a very good 2 way centre. Considering a lot of these kids were barely able to play the last couple years, I'm sure there will be a lot of surprises over the next few seasons. If I were a Habs fan I'd be pretty happy coming out of the first round with Slafkovsky, Mesar, & Kirby Dach.
  9. I can't believe Dorion got it done without having to give up a single prospect or roster player.
  10. I guess this fits in this thread, but I really liked these uniforms.
  11. So you say the Oilers jerseys are dated, but if they did something as simple as adding a couple thin white stripes to their home jersey they would suddenly be fine? Also, the Oilers did add texture to the logo that wasn't around in the '80s/'90s.
  12. They tried moving on. Twice. It's clear at this point what the fans want. Also, the team wore the royal blue for 8 more seasons after Gretzky was traded, including one Stanley Cup, so the uniforms have a deeper connection than just one player. I'm sure it'll just be a one year thing to clear out some stock without having to discount it.
  13. I'm not sure why this always seems to get brought up with the Oilers. No one says "the Bulls need to update their uniforms, the Michael Jordan era is over" or "why are the 49ers dressing like Joe Montana still plays for them". When you have a classic look that is beloved by most of the fanbase you should probably stick with it. Especially if you're Edmonton and bringing back that look for a second time.
  14. I never said it was the best uniform in franchise history, or that it should be the basis of their main set. All I said was that they managed to strike a good balance of the colours. Aside from the bottom of the jersey meeting the pants, all the blue & burgundy elements are separated by white.
  15. I preferred this set. It was a nice combination of the Hornets & Jazz brands.
  16. Say what you want about these uniforms, but this is probably the best balance of blue, burgundy, and white that the Avs have ever had. Removing black & silver from the equation makes things a lot simpler.
  17. I know the Wild had almost no leverage considering their cap situation, but that still feels like an underwhelming return. Faber is a Minnesota kid and played for the Gophers the last couple years, so I guess they've gotten plenty of looks at him.
  18. A bit strange having the flames from the torch overlap with the border of the shield, but not go past the shape. The 6 stars representing the 6 QMJHL titles, plus the bigger star for the Memorial Cup championship is a nice touch though.
  19. Plus they used the first pick of the 2nd round that year to take Connor Timmins, who was a big piece of the Kuemper trade. It's also pretty cool that on their way to winning the Cup they knocked out Duchene, O'Reilly, and Barrie in consecutive rounds.
  20. Both teams in this matchup. I always forget that Dallas was still wearing this road uniform the year they won. At least they clinched the Cup in their green alts: This one is the opposite of Dallas's situation. The white uniform was great, but these should have never been anything more than third jerseys:
  21. The Utah Jazz rebranding & immediately admitting to their mistake has to be a record for the fastest a team has went from a 180 with their brand to a full 360 back to the old one beloved by fans. It got me thinking about instances where a team has made a drastic change to their colour scheme that actually stuck. There are tons of cases of teams trying to force a new brand(s) onto their fans before eventually returning to an old one (or something close to an old one): Astros going back to blue & orange after trying a navy/gold & brick/sand/black Brewers bringing back blue & yellow Blue Jays ditching the black & grey Padres returning to brown & yellow Pistons hopping on the teal bandwagon before going back to the classic colours Warriors getting rid of the power ranger and going back to blue & yellow Sixers ditching the black & gold AI era set Wizards playing Bullets dress up after trying the blue & gold look for a while Coyotes returning to the kachina set Sabres trying to be a black & red team before bringing back the classic colours/logos Islanders experimenting with the fisherman/navy then bringing back the original uniforms Canucks taking a couple detours before a return to royal & green Capitals going back to red, white, & blue with an updated wordmark logo By comparison I can only think of a few times where the 180 has stuck: Seattle Mariners - They've worn navy, teal, and silver for almost twice as long as blue & yellow. They do have a fauxback alternate, but it doesn't seem like there is a big push for them to go back to the old colours full time Tampa Bay Buccaneers - People have come around on the creamsicles as a once-in-a-while thing, but the 2 Super Bowls have cemented pewter & red as the definitive Bucs look Pittsburgh Penguins - It may have been a pandering move to switch from double blue to match the Steelers & Pirates, but the black & yellow isn't ever going anywhere I didn't look beyond the big 4 North American leagues, but can anyone think of other drastic rebrands that actually worked?
  22. The Oilers are most likely going back to the royal blue (not exactly a new jersey). I believe there have also been rumours of the Ducks going with orange primaries, and Carolina updating their red jerseys.
  23. I think they were ambitiously trying to create a 'global brand' that had mass appeal beyond the state of Utah. And the tech space loves the extreme minimalism when it comes to design, so I can see why they thought a black & white J note was the way to go.
  24. Tampa didn't capitalize enough during that first period. Keumper trying to make sure he gets a new contract with the Avs for next year.
