  1. Completely. I had no idea. I guess it was overshadowed by the Halladay / Lee deals.
  2. Not sure how old you are, but I'd say that most people would consider Georgetown, Villanova, and probably Syracuse are the staples of the Big East, with UConn knocking at that door due to their recent success. PITT could get there, but until the past few years, they were never really thought of as a core Big East school, and I'm not sure too many Big East (basketball) fans would cry if they weren't there (as long as they got replaced.) As long as the core stays in tact, the conference will survive.
  3. Link Link I couldn't find more detailed info on the ND/NBC contract. It looks like they are getting just slightly under what the Big Ten schools are. So, if they shared the NBC contract with the other teams, everyone would break even. However, adding ND doesn't give BTN the ability to enter a new market. Indiana/Chicagoland is tapped out. Adding, say, Syracuse would bring in the New York market, which would presumably boost revenue, even if it is split 12 ways instead of 11. Wouldn't it enter a lot of new markets due to the national following that ND has? Wouldn't there be demand all over foro BTN?
  4. I agree with this. The argument is that if OSU has the title-game berth wrapped up prior to the Michigan game, do they rest any starters, therefore diminishing the importance of the game? If their title-game opponent is in the same position, and does rest players, that could put OSU at a disadvantage. I don't think it's a really good argument, but that's what it would be.
  5. Why does the NCAA care how a conference determines its champion? I don't understand why the Big 10 can't just schedule a championship game, regardless of the number of teams it has.
  6. They do it for the kids, it's a big deal for them to play at Heinz. Yeah, I get that. It just seems that they shouldn't sacrafice an event as big as a college championship game for state semi-final football games, since there are probably other more-than-suitable venues elsewhere. Actually, unless they were going to play at IUP, Clarion, Slippery Rock, or one of those other D2 schools, there's probably not.
  7. Too small, too outdoors. That thing is locked in Indy, with perhaps an occasional token gesture in Detroit. Considering The University of Michigan is all of about 20-30 minutes west of Detroit on I-94 I think Ford Field will be more than just a "token gesture." My guess is if it is always an indoor game then it would alternate between the two. The Metrodome could be in play as well. But, early December is still very reasonable for football in these parts so an outdoor game isn't at all out of the question. That could put Soldier Field, Browns Stadium, Heinz Field, and Paul Brown Stadium into the mix as well. Even if Pitt is the choice (which I think it should not be), Heinz Field will be hard to have a game at. The Big Ten will move to add permanent BYE week effective in 2010, thus allowing for a game following Thanksgiving. The WPIAL title games are held there and that may be too much impact on the grass without the possibility of reseeding or replacing it that late in the year. I'm pretty sure they do resod it, because it looked pretty good for the PITT vs. Cinci game a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure why they play the WPIAL games there anyway, since they're not even the state championship games, and they get less than 20 K fans total for all four games. This year, they only pre-sold 6K tickets, and got a max of 6K game-day sales. Seems like kind of a waste.
  8. I think Bradley was the only one. Kukoc wore #7. http://www.nba.com/s...ory/roster.html Interesting. I'm certain that I saw him wear 77, even if only for his first game, before someone else changed their number. That was a while ago though, so I could be mistaken.
  9. Thought maybe he had dreams of someday being an offensive tackle. Following in the footsteps of Shawn Bradley and Toni Kukoc as Sixers who have worn numbers in the 70s. Not sure if there were any others.
  10. Funny - I go to StadiumPage.com all the time (and the Stadium Graveyard page), and never even noticed the WS Rings extension. Looks like I have a new bookmark to add.
  11. wake me when the caps have a banner for Al Iafrate. Man, I heart'd that guy.
  12. Why don't NFL teams celebrate championships as much as the other sports? Don't see too man pennants / flags / trohpy cases / etc.
  13. I agree. I'd do this in all sports. If you don't, you're essentially saying that the division and conference / league championships aren't that significant. So if you win the World Series for example, and then the next year get bounced in the NLDS, is it seems kind of dumb to raise a flag that wasn't good enough to be raised the previous year. The way the Phillies do it, they raise the division flag right away (it's white). Then, when they won the NLCS, they took the white down and replaced it with a blue one. Then, they replaced the blue with a red one. Of course, they still had a flag-raising ceremony before opening day, even though the flag was already up (I guess they took it down so it could be raised again.) They should just have all of the damn flags up there all the time. What is especially flawed about this system is that the assumption is that if you have a Conference / League flag, then you also won the division. This is not always the case though, with wild cards.
  14. I wonder how many of those they are selling. I saw them in stores on Saturday. Didn't look like anyone was rushing to buy them. I'm half surprised that none of these johnny-come-lately protesters aren't boycotting the stores selling the jerseys. Other than just to make a statement about supporting the man, there's no real reason to buy his jersey, since he'll be suspended for at least the first two games, and there's no guarantee he'll play much after that (and that's assuming he keeps to the promises he's made about being reformed.) I think many are taking the "wait and see" approach. EDIT: not sure if it's possible, but the team could make themselves look a little better by donating money from Vick merchandise to the humane society. That still wouldn't get the nutjob picketers to buy any, but at least the team wouldn't look like it's just doing this to sell some jerseys.
  15. I was with Buc in renaming the thread, but after I saw this? F*** it. Just shut the whole damn thing down. The is the "Legends in the wrong uniforms" thread...and this motherf***er posts Mark "I didn't know he was still in NBA" Madsen. This s*** didn't just jump the shark, it jumped all the sharks...San Jose Sharks, Iron Chef Shark, Jets and Sharks, the Jersey Shore Shark attacks of 1916, and even those 3 mechanical sharks from the "Jaws" flicks. what no love for the loan sharks, discovery channel's shark week and the SNL door shark played by Chevy Chase? What about Sharky the Sharkdog?
  16. I have no idea who that is. Pat Burrell. The only thing he's legendary at is striking out and banging every cougar in the Deleware Valley. I've heard some very interesting stories from a girl I met that used to hook up with him. And here's evil Tampa Bay Pat. Maybe he should have changed gimmicks to Evil Pat while he was here. Either way, Raul The Bat > Pat The Bat.

  18. OMFG - does that P have a black outline around it, or is that just an optical illusion caused by the texture? I don't recall there ever being an outline around that version of the P. its not an optical illusion, its a genuine black outline. How can you be certain? I really don't think it's black. I remember as a kid around that era, one of the things that made me take closer notice of sports uniforms was how the Authentic Flyers jerseys didn't have the black outline, but the replicas did. I always wanted an authentic, but they were around $80 IIRC (and didn't come in little-kid sizes), so I had to settle for a replica. I actually tried to cut the black outline off of the patch with scissors... didn't work too well.

  20. While that jersey is clearly a cheap replica (can tell by the crest), remember that back in the '80s, some authentic jerseys were that type of mesh (the Rangers were wide mesh for quite a while.) IIRC, the Flyers had wide mesh in the early '80s (when they were made by Eagle I think) and then went to the 100% poly (like baseball jersey material) until Air Knit became en vogue.
  21. Tavares will leave his mark on Long Island, you'll see. He's going to p*ss on it on his way out?
  22. Not a legend by any stretch of the imagination, but then again, neither are half the players in this thread. Brad Lidge on a rehab start for the Reading Phils.
