i'll even go as far to say that a yankee will win the mvp or cy young award.

Going out on a limb for that prediction?

lol :D

Haven't the Yanks not had much luck with either of those feats recently? Besides Clemens in '01, the last Cy Young for the Yanks was Guidry in 78', and the last MVP period was Mattinglly in 85'. But heck, seeing as we still have a whole season ahead of us, I have one Yankee in mind who COULD break the Yanks MVP drought after 20 years.

MVP:

Hideki Matsui

Stats Needed For It(Opinion):

G AB H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB OBP SLG AVG

158 610 185 38 5 39 121 78 92 5 .440 .570 .310

Is that asking for a monster year coming off his 2004 season? Let's see... he'd need:

G: Same number of games played, or one or two less.

AB: 26 more at-bats than 2004.

H: 11 more hits than 2004.

2B: 4 more doubles than 2004.

3B: 2 more triples than 2004.

HR: 8 more HR than 2004.

RBI: 13 more RBI than 2004.

BB: 2 more walks than 2004.

SO: 11 less strikeouts than 2004.

SB: 3 more stolen bases than 2004.

OBP: .05 higher than 2004.

SLG: .048 higher than 2004.

AVG: .22 higher than 2004.

I think it's certainly doable - it might even be too generous(as in, the criteria for MVP might be stricter.

Let's compare here:

H. Matsui predicted stats for 2005:

G AB H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB OBP SLG AVG

158 610 185 38 5 39 121 78 92 5 .440 .570 .310

V. Guerrero(2004 MVP) stats

156 612 124 39 2 39 126 52 74 15 .391 .598 .337

Any thoughts? Could Matsui do it with those stats?
