I loved the old Buffalo Aud and Maple Leaf Gardens more, but they're gone now. I hate it when people lump in Columbus with the Nashvilles and Carolinas of the world; the city is a real hockey town. Ohio sent the most Union soldiers of any state to fight in the Civil War. Since the Union wore blue in the Civil War, it only follows that the team is named the Blue Jackets. The name does come from the civil war, the reason is that Ohio had more people volunteer and fight than any other state. I think it is stupid because no war was ever fought in ohio. I don't like the name, never really have especially since they decided to use their mascot as a logo, but since the team came out with the civil war cap logo and the flag wrapped around the star and decided to explain more why the team is called what it is I have warmed up to it. DEAD! Posted June 11, 2005 Share Posted June 11, 2005 When I first heard about the "blue jacket" I thought there must be something to it. The bug logo just didn't seem right with that clothing. After I understood what the name meant I just thought putting the bug in was goofy. Having said that, I'm in the minority that actually like thes lime green in the colour scheme. It's an interesting accent colour. I do like the Ohio pennant/Star logo, but not too crazy about the civil war cap logo. I saw, I came, I left.
