Breakwood
What is Waltzing Matilta anyway? I know its a song, and I'm guessing its along the lines of God Bless America in the States, its not the anthem but I guess the official song?

Saintsfan
'Waltzing Matilda' is kind of the unnoficial anthem of Australians. As I understand it, it draws on Australian musical traditions, and the like. The song is so beloved by Australians it has its own websitehttp://www.nla.gov.au/epubs/waltzingmatilda/index.htmlAs for being played at tjhe Grand Final, well Aussie Rules is a game invented by Aussies, and the song is a traditional Aussie song, the two kind of go together. Alphabet Man
Like 'Take me out to the Ballpark' and Baseball if you like. So why do they sing it when they are already there? twitter.com/thebrainofMatt
jr79
It's tradition... like a lot of traditions it makes no sense but no-one will dare change it.The song is about a petty crim who wanders the outback stealing sheep and commits suicide by jumping in a lake when he's surrounded by the cops.So it really is about our national heritage
