WSU151
Don't forget that the heat in Miami during the summer isn't exactly the most enjoyable experience, especially for day games. ProvidenceRI
What's funny to me, is that the BoSox are turning into the the New York "Spend Ridiculous Amounts of Money and Make Trades That Gut Out Your Farm System" Yankees right in front of our very eyes. Ummm... no. Hanley had a poor year, and we didnt even give up our stud LHP prospect. Our farm system is still stocked. This is a hell of a trade for the BoSox. Beckett is only 25. The utility of dealing prospects depends on (i) how much you give; and (ii) who you get in return. The BoSox sent Casey Fossum and change (i.e., not much) for Curt Schilling (i.e., a World Series MVP).Now they've sent a some decent prospects in Hanley Ramirez and Annibal Sanchez for a 25-year old, ace quality pitcher* in Josh Beckett and a professional hitter** in Mike Lowell. They're getting proven production for what are essentially a pair of lottery tickets -- one of whom is blocked at SS by the long-term-contracted Edgar Renteria. And since their farm system reportedly remains well-stocked, I say it's a good deal for Boston.* - Beckett comes w/ injury caveats.** - Lowell had his worst career year in 2005. RyanB06
Wow. I actually agree with Amare on something. Good thing it's baseball and not politics - yet! rmackman
Yeah I heard the Marlins are also planning on trading Juan Pierre for a slice of pizza, Paul Lo Duca in exchange for free Six Flags Tickets, and Loria is trading Luis Castillo for a date with a girl. Or at least that's what it feels like now. "Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - Unknown | Check out my articles on jerseys at Bacon Sports

Audiodrama
Anyone know when the Red Sox will be having the press conference introducing Beckett, Lowell and Mota and presenting them with their jerseys?
marlinfan
Except for Beckett and Delgado the other players are overpayed talent. Mota underachieved the 1 and a half years he was here. No sense in paying Mike Lowell 9 million a year to hit .230 and hit 5 or 6 home runs. Pierre is one I'd like to keep but no sense in paying a below average defensive centerfielder who can't get on-base at a decent clip 5 million a year. LoDuca is one I'd like to trade but since the catcher's market is so bad we're stuck with him. I doubt they'll trade Castillo, a couple reports have said the Marlins want to keep him so he can mentor Hanley Ramirez at shortstop. They got rid of almost 70 million dollars in backloaded contracts.Anyone who saw this team 2004, 2005 will tell you this team was stale. It looked like they didn't care much of the time and it was very very fustrating to watch.Next years team will have strong young talent like Jeremy Hermida (Hermida > Franceour), Olsen, Johnson, Jason "the Crow" Vargas, Josh Willingham and Hanley Ramirez to go with the veterans like Willis, Cabrera, Castillo, LoDuca and Conine. I'm not saying this team will win 80-90 games but they could easily win 75-78 games. This "firesale" was to save the franchise in the future and free up money to sign Willis, and Cabrera who are FAs in 2009 to long term contracts. Once a stadium deal is secure in Miami-Dade, South Florida, Las Vegas, Norfolk, Charlottle, Karachi, Beijing, etc. this franchise should be fine. 1997 | 2003
