Peter Gammon's has reported it here to be a done deal....

I think they might of paid a little too much. Plus with them getting Lowell, that basically shuns any chance of bringing back Mueller which is a shame. If Lowell has a good season, then they will probably keep him around, but if he falters, see him being assigned for designation and Youks jumping to 3rd.

Let's open the bidding on Javy Vazquez. He's exercised his right to demand a trade, on account of his desire to be closer to Puerto Rico. Texas evidently is not close enough; I hear the Rangers are among the teams he'd block. East Coast bidders, step right up!

I hear possibly Devil Rays, Marlins, Braves, or Washington. I could see him ending up in Atlanta or Washington.

Actually, I can easily see why the Marlins are willing trade Beckett and Lowell. Both of these guys have been hurt for a good bit of the last few seasons. This has been costing Marlins the chance to snag a playoff bid as a result. So, I can see why they are trading for younger and, hopefully, more reliable talent.

I wouldn't say Loria is destroying the team for the hell of it. He put a contender on the field for the two seasons after the Marlins won the World Series in 2003. In those two seasons, the Fish still had horrible attendance. Even with a winner on the field, the fans just didn't care about baseball unless the Mets or Braves were in town. They waited until the playoffs rolled around to say I'M A MARLINS FAN! Since that didn't happen, they just ignored the team. On top of which, the Marlins tried and tried to get a new ballpark. They couldn't. So basically the fans and the city have told the Marlins "Well, we don't really want you THAT much. You're only good for us in October if you're even there." That's the baseball fans in this city. After two seasons of that, Loria realized Wayne Huizenga was right. There are no real baseball fans in South Florida. So in order to save money from taking a huge loss, he's gutting the team and starting over again. It's sad, but that's how it is.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only Marlins fan. Yes I'm a Brewers fan too, but often times I wear my Marlins gear to the gym to work out in. I'm the only one there with Florida stuff. I'd say 90% of the gym wears a mixture of Red Sox, Yankees, and Mets gear. The Marlins really would need another 20 years to develop real fans because they need to get the kids who were born here hooked on them. As it is, most people here are transplanted from elsewhere and still love their old teams. That's partially why the Marlins haven't been embraced. Anyways, that's my two cents.

"Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - Unknown | 🌐 Check out my articles on jerseys at Bacon Sports 🔗

The Marlins gave it a shot but the hurricanes had an effect there too. Attendance was bad. Lowell has a ridiculous contract. And they wanted to keep Willis and Cabrera.

It is a great deal for Boston in the post Epstein era. They landed a big pitcher. I am not sure they will keep Lowell . Could be more to come.

:woot: Good riddance from the NL East, Josh Beckett. Now the Braves will truly pwn.

Yep. And since the Braves annually flame out in the NL playoffs, you may never have to face Beckett again! Congrats. :D

Got me right there

Damn that's a good one, dude...

What's funny to me, is that the BoSox are turning into the the New York "Spend Ridiculous Amounts of Money and Make Trades That Gut Out Your Farm System" Yankees right in front of our very eyes.

This solves two major problems for the BoSox if Lowell and Becket can stay healthy. A solid bat at third base and a top-of-the rotation starter. Florida gets two prospects that will be key cogs in 3 years when they make their next run and Ramirez probably could start for them next year at short, since Gonzalez won't be back.

[soapbox]Florida doesn't deserve the team, sorry. 2 World Series titles in 10 years and you still don't go to the game? Fire sales suck and all, but give me the binge and purge anytime. I'm an Orioles fan, they haven't sniffed the playoffs in 10 years. I'd trade consistency (finishing 4th in the friggin' division) for 2 WS titles...[/soapbox]

To hear my Marlin-fan friend tell it, a huge problem is the high rate of rain delays and rain outs.

Dolphins Stadium is located on county land, a very long way from downtown Miami. I can vouch for this -- I remember passing it by about an hour after leaving the city by car. And that was on a Saturday morning, not during weekday/gameday traffic.

Asking fans to sit for hours in weekday traffic travelling to games that are regularly too wet to play is a tall order. That's why the Fish were pushing so hard for a retractable roof stadium in Miami proper.

After the recent hurricane season and the substantial clean-up expenses, it seems that any possibility for public financing has disappeared. Rather, they're looking at Dolphins Stadium and tiny crowds for the foreseeable future. Hence the fire sale, hence the rumors of a Marlins relocation.
