Outside The Lines - The Numbers Game

33 is my favorite # beacause...

A: The # of years Jesus lived

B: Equals 6, which is my other favorite #

C: It's just a kewl #.

Wait, 33 equals 6?

3+3=6

Let's See:

3 - Three years of Babe Ruth / Cal Ripken baseball. I had my best seasons with #3 in baseball, leading the team in stolen bases twice and doubles once. I think I wore it my first few years in YMCA basketball.

8 - Wore it a few times in Y basketball. No special memories from it.

10 - Wore it last year in SRA basketball. Don't ever want it again.

11 - My lacrosse number. I've grown attached to it since the guys call me Thaddeaus the 11th. I'm going to wear it again this season as the captain of the team.

12 - My SRA number this year. We're tied for first in the league, and I'm having a good statistical year (one ppg short of averaging a double-double)

Only 3 Numbers ill ever wear are

#40- This comes from my admiration for Mike Alstott. Usually baseball, only because the #56 is never available.

#11- all 1s are the luckiest thing you can ever come across IMO. Again, usually only taken when 56 and 40 arent available

#56- Best # of all time. First time i was handed a jersey with a # on it, #56 was it. Unfortunately its not a very common # in little league so i never got to wear it in baseball, and my high school has always avoided ordering the #56 for some reason so the only two times i got to wear the # was my very first year of football when it was just handed to me, and my last year of football when we all got to choose our #s. Its always a special treat when i get to wear the #56

#23 - The number i wore when i played hockey. I picked it when my brother Russell was 23, because he was a driving force in my life.

#75 - The number i wore when i played football. I picked it because it was my brother Russell's number when he played football for the Scranton Eagles of the EFL and the New Jersey Jaguars of the UFL, semi-pro leagues.

88 is my number. I used to really like Lindros, so that inspired it in hockey, and I grew to love it.

I always wore it when I played hockey, and football in High School (I was a TE). I wore #43 earlier in HS Football, but eventually got my hands on 88.

Never really had a number for baseball, because I didn't play organized baseball above the Little League level and the numbers went by shirt size, the lower numbers being the smallest shirts, so I didn't have much choice in numbers, always having been the tallest kid on my team.

The number that I wear the most is either 75 or 79. Theres no love for the JV football team, so I have a 79 practice jersey, 75 home jersey, and 79 away. I picked it orignally because thats the number my dad had in high school.

With baseball I usually end up wearing 5, since most of the leagues only provide numbers below 25. It just happened that it was the first number I was assigned, and I've tried to keep with it each year.

If I were playing hockey: No. 8 -- memories of Steve Vickers playing for the Rangers when I was was growing up ...

If I were playing goal: No. 33 -- No reason. Definitely not a Brian Boucher fan.

If I were playing baseball: No. 8 -- Gary Gaetti will always be my favorite player

If I were playing football: No. 59 -- Can anyone think of a great linebacker who wore this? Just need to be different -- althought I remember Karl Mecklenburg on the Broncos wore 77, so if I could get one like that, it would be 76 or 78.

If I were playing basketball ... I have a 2-inch vertical leap, so I would not be playing basketball.
