San Jose Earthquakes (MLS) primary logo incorrect

I would still like to know how so many official MLS documents had the version with the "Yellow Shock" in it...

...if it's truly incorrect, that is.

That's a good question. Could those documents have been from early in the 2000 MLS season, maybe before the organization made the firm decision to go with the silver-colored sunrays version (like I said before, the yellow-colored sunrays were found on the helmet and gloves of Rikter the CyberDog, as well as a few early souvenirs found in the short-lived Earthquakes Soccer Shop on Stevens Creek Blvd in Santa Clara)?

In any case, every version of the MLS San Jose Earthquakes uniforms (both authentic and replica) sported the silver-colored sunrays version.

Well... if the official guides referred to the yellow one as the primary logo... then well... it was the primary logo. It may not have been used as the primary logo but it officially was, and that's what I tend to go by on my site.

See 2004/05 Detroit Pistons.

With all due respect, which official guides are you referring to? And are they the ones after the 2000 season?

I have every San Jose Earthquakes official media guide from 2001 on (am working on finding the earlier Clash/Earthquakes ones ;) ), and the only MLS San Jose Earthquakes logos included in them are the silver-colored sunrays version and the blue script logos.

The yellow-colored sunrays version is rightfully nowhere to be found.

I've updated the MLS Team Colors page on the SSUR:

MLS Team Colors

I have to say I would trust an official Style Guide over a Media Guide any day. The only official MLS official graphics package I have is from before last season; I would be curious what was in the MLS Style Guide in 2000.

Media Guides aren't the most reliable for this sort of thing; I mean, the NFL Record & Fact Book has the San Francisco 49ers' official colors listed as Cardinal, Metallic Gold and Beige!!!!

(Beige is the flat alternate color for the Metallic Gold. It should NOT ever be listed as a separate team color. And, where's the Black?!)

Thank you again. :)

Believe me, when the MLS franchise was known as the San Jose Earthquakes in 2000-2005, the only yellow that ever appeared on the uniform was on the "Yahoo! Sports" sponsor patch in 2000.

However, even that turned into a silver-colored "Yahoo! Sports" sponsor patch for 2001 & 2002, and into a silver-colored "Yahoo! en Español" sponsor patch for 2003 & 2004. B)

There's no doubt, the guy has talent!!!

SOme of them are over the top, some are simple...

The one that doesn't ring true to me is the HP Pavi l ion (as oppose dot Pavi LL ion as the caption reads) one...

Hewl E tt Packard (as opposed to Hewl I tt as he spells it in the caption) wouldn't get the naming rights to an arena with mandating that its logo be used in it, especially when you go by the name hp with such a simple recognizable name/logo.

It's just my anal side ... maybe it's jealousy... I like to thonk that I hold great artists to higher standards...

I remember alot of those airbrushed illustrations on cards, media guides, folders and such back in the mid nineties.

Awesome artist.

I think a few of his logos (surprise, the ones where he kept it simple) are quite good.

Im from San Jo and yes some versions did have yellow in it.

No offense, but no they didn't. Certainly never on the uniforms... I have the authentic jerseys from every single year they were the MLS San Jose Earthquakes (2000-2005), and all the versions have had the silver-colored sunrays logo. :)

And yes, I too am from San Jo. ;)

To the site admin:

Thank you for the corrections. I see that Sports E-Cyclopedia has made the proper correction too. :)

If I can ask just one more little favor... could the logos also be corrected on the uniforms here and here (from yellow-colored sunrays version to silver-colored sunrays version)?

Thanks again. :D

On a side note, never knew of the Barons-like Sharks alternate logo. Also nice shield marks for the Worcester Sharks.

That's the Barons of the AHL. They were moved from Kentucky to replace the Lumberjacks

Yep, never on the UNIFORMS! But, yes, some versions it did. Like on PRINTED material. Why do I know? My roommate had the logo from a give away at one of the games hanging on his wall, the thing was a larger than a peice of paper.

Was that giveaway given early on, like in the 2000 or maybe the 2001 MLS season? Or perhaps it was a leftover from that time-period handed out later on?
