New UNC basketball jerseys

It could be worse. They could have that stupid grey on the shoulders like Illinois did last year.

I hate Nike. :(

I can't find a picture, but didn't they? Those grey shoulders, I believe, were for Nike Elite schools (schools that had been to the Final Four since, I don't know, 2000 or so). Surely UNC would have qualified. I do remember Duke in those.

What is the point of the argyle design on the sides of this or the old ones? What does it have to do with North Carolina or Tar Heels?

Personally, I wish they'd go back to something more like the uniforms Michael Jordan wore at UNC.

UNC tried the gray shoulders for one game (I'm pretty sure it was the Illinois game, actually) and the fans got pissed off. Hopefully, the same will happen with these monstrosities.

Really, even Nike has to realize how hideous their funky templet looks when combined with argyle.

Nothing, really, but anyone who's been to a game in the Dean Dome knows how obnoxiously blue-blooded UNC athletics are, so it fits perfectly.

It was designed on the uniforms by Alexander Julian, a prominent designer, and lover of Carolina athletics. I guess he just wanted to create a unique look for his school, that no one else would ever have, and I suppose he succeeded in that respect.

Pretty soon NCAA football is going to wind up looking like the Arena League--and am I the only one who's noticed about 90% of the teams in that league have the EXACT SAME DESIGN with different colors?

Funny you should mention that, B. Know who's got the contract for the AFL's uniforms?

Bingo. Nike.

Let's recap a bit of what they've done to AFL teams in their few seasons of influence:

Los Angeles Avengers: Now sporting the Miami Hurricane template, which allows so little space for a sleeve logo, the Seahawk looks monstrous by comparison.

San Jose Sabercats: Got rid of the classic "Sunrise" sleeve stripes and gold pants in favor of contrasting side panels and monochrome uniforms.

New Orleans Voodoo: Ditched the "crossed snakes logo" from the sleeves, and traded their unique pants stripes for something factory-issue from Nike.

Chicago Rush: Forced to replace their unique, intricate side panels for solid-colored ones, allegedly because Nike said they were too difficult to manufacture.

Orlando Predators: The all-black look associated with the team gets soiled with red Bronco stripes. Unique "slashed-through" numbers get replaced with standard block.

Columbus Destroyers: Bevelled numbers replaced with standard block, drop-shadowed ones.

Las Vegas Gladiators: Goodbye, sleeve striping. Hello, Bronco stripes. (Though I will give credit for putting the excellent "G-shield" logo on the sleeve.)

Utah Blaze: Back piping. I need say no more.

And I'm sure there's plenty more where that came from...
