Bucks6thMan
The MLS will never make an identity for itself if it keeps using European team names. This is America, we do things different here. Why should soccer be any exception? The European team names sound terrible. It should remain Location then Team Name. That's why I have mixed feelings on it. You wouldn't see a team called Juventus in the English League, or Manchester United in the Mexican League, so why have a team like Real Salt Lake in MLS?On the other hand, in most of the world there's not a bigger oxymoron than United States and soccer, so maybe Europeanizing the league is best way to gain creibility (though a few World Cup victories would probably help more than anything).Right Way: Chicago Fire L.A. Galaxy New England Revolution Colorado Rapids Houston Dynamo Kansas City Wizards Columbus CrewWrong Way Chivas USA FC Dallas DC United Red Bull New York Real Salt Lake Toronto FCI don't see anything wrong with FC Dallas, Toronto FC or DC United since "FC" and "United" aren't exclusive to any one country (unlike Chivas or "Real"). But Red Bull New York is just terrible... if MLS wants to be taken seriously, they need to make a rule against having teams named after corprorations. Bucks6thMan
I was thinking about what euro-addition (if any) would fit... Milwaukee Athletic (maybe) like Charlton Athletic of the English Premier League and Athletic Bilbao of La Liga in Spain. Not being from Milwaukee I did a little research on the city name and any nicknames to come up with other possible names for a Milwaukee-based expansion club. Not trying to impose, just trying to come up with something that sounds good and reflects well on the city.(Nicknames) "City of Festivals, Cream City" ... possibles ... Festival City, Festival City Athletic, Cream City FC, Cream City Athletic, Milwaukee Athletic, Milwaukee FCDefinately a good place for an expansion team as long as Miller gets their logo on the jerseys.Actually, I like Cream City FC. I came up with a list of possible names before I started this project and settled on Inter Milwaukee. Here's the other ones:AC MilwaukeeCream City FCDeustches Athens FC ("German Athens" FC, the late 19th/early 20th century nickname for Milwaukee)Inter MilwaukeeMilwaukee 1846 (the year Milwaukee was incorporated)Milwaukee 48ers (the name given to the German socialists who settled in Milwaukee)Milwaukee BaronsMilwaukee Bavarians (the name of one of the top amatuer soccer clubs in the US: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milwaukee_BavariansMilwaukee Breakers (alludes to Milwaukee being on a lake)Milwaukee Blizzard Milwaukee FCMilwaukee Stags
Bucks6thMan
Now to the concept....start by changing from black to a pine green color and also using a more goldish color (closer to what the Milwaukee Brewers in MLB use).Agreed, I tried this out on my computer and it looked pretty sweet.Pics? Saturn
Forget the pics. What you have now is freaking awesome! Hope you're planning on putting out a jersey concept. *hint hint, nudge nudge*
AJM
The updated color scheme is a move in the right direction. The colors look good...maybe a kit concept in the works? (MLF) Chicago Cannons,  (IHA) Phoenix Firebirds - 2021 Xtreme Cup Champions (WAFL) Phoenix Federals - WAFL World Bowl XII Champions (Defunct)
Bucks6thMan
The updated color scheme is a move in the right direction. The colors look good...maybe a kit concept in the works?I'll definetly try to come up with something. But it might be a little rough being that I've never done a soccer concept and never even watched a soccer game until a couple years ago.
StefOn
Regarding the wordmark...Internationale should have a rather classy image. If you go with a name like this you can not use too "modern" colors. Regarding the name discussion...Red BulL New York? C'mon, this is a joke, even worse than the af2 Miami Hooters. Why? This league is nicked "Mayor League". What's next?Real Salt Lake... Hm, Real Madrid and other clubs in Spain carry "Real" because the King awarded them with that title for outstanding achievements. No Kings in Utah, why name them Real? Real crap.DC United... Ok, what teams exactly were united to form this franchise? Houston Dynamo... Funny to see a comunist name pop up in the MLS.The main problem of so-called Euro-names is that they just do not fit to the US system. This are companies aka franchises, not (non-profit) clubs basically owned by members. I know this has gotten out of hand in Europe too, but at least they have the history. If you want to come up with something sounding like a european name pick something like <Location> FC, AC (Athletic Club) or one of the other names. Don't just steal a name. Don't just steal a name.As far as DCU... a lot of the european clubs that have the name "United" weren't actually the result of a merger. IIRC, Man U chose "united" because of the statement it made about teamwork, not because they were the union of two Manchester clubs. I'm sure it was chosen as DC's "nickname" since it sounded European to the die-hard soccer fans, but could still pass as a traditional nickname to the casual US sports fan.As for Houston Dynamo, I was kind of hoping that Dynamo would be around for an eventual Milwaukee club since Milwaukee actually does have the histories of Socialism and manufacturing that would facilitate the "Dynamo" name. As far as Houston, I know they've had a few factories and it's probably the most liberal part of Texas (not that that's saying much), but I doubt anything close to communism ever happened there. And like I said before, I have mixed thoughts on "Europoser" names, but "Inter" does fit Milwaukee since at one point it had the largest foriegn-born population in the US. Also assuming that Milwaukee does get a team, it's most likely going to be marketed towards it's current foriegn-born (mostly Mexican) populace. Gothamite
As far as DCU... a lot of the european clubs that have the name "United" weren't actually the result of a merger. IIRC, Man U chose "united" because of the statement it made about teamwork, not because they were the union of two Manchester clubs.Worth repeating. In the Premiership now we have four Uniteds:Manchester United: changed name from Newton HeathWest Ham United: changed name from Thames IronworksSheffield United: borrowed name from Sheffield United Cricket Club (the cricket club wasn't the result of a merger either)Newcastle United: the only "United" to be so named as the result of a merger, in this case between Newcastle East End FC and Newcastle West End FC It's a common misconception that "United" means two or more clubs combined. Most of the Uniteds in England chose it because they liked the sound of it. Just like DC. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.
