I've always loved that design.

Me too. I just wish they did World Series highlight cards back then of the 86 series with that design.

Ah, that was when I first got into card collecting. Then got out a few years later after all the brands exploded on the scene (especially the ridiculously overpriced Upper Deck crap). To me, it was always Topps, Donruss and Fleer. Nothing else.

Loved the woodgrain background. And what is that font used for the players' names?

i'll disagree, I love '87, but '88 would be my all time favorite

THis is your alltime fave??? You gotta have the team logo, man. It's a rule.

That's not the real '88 topps design... that was some alternate thing they had going, i think the cards were even oversized

Here's the '88 Topps design

That guy didn't last long in the Majors. Wonder that happened to him?

[Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008

Jesus, look at that, such a svelte physique!

You're absolutely right, that is the correct 88 topps layout. Still, it bothered me because A) the team name was always cut off by the photo, and B) no logos!

That card was made to be a valuable error card, because it will be rare.

Look at what this guy wants on ebay.

Dammit! Topps broke the space-time continuum again?!?!?

Engine, Engine, Number Nine, on the New York transit line,

If my train goes off the track, pick it up! Pick it up! Pick it up!

Back on the scene, crispy and clean,

You can try, but then why, 'cause you can't intervene.

We be the outcast, down for the settle. Won't play the rock, won't play the pebble.
