There's something of note, here: the numbers are justified to the right instead of centered:

Sure, some numbers have been placed off-center on the front of uniforms (particularly in baseball, international basketball, and some Pro Bowl jerseys), but I've never seen anything like this in on the back of a uniform.

Thats seems like its a product of the uniform design on the back. IOW, the fact that the red space is off center. But I've seen teams with similar designs put numbers centered in the past so I'm not sure why they dedcided to do this. Its funny, because soccer is a sport where there are more single digit numbers used than in a sport like AMERICAN football so it looks really weird to have a single number offset. I wonder what the number '10' looks like on this uni. Probably wouldn't look that bad with a '64' or '25' but like I said, its not AMERICAN Football.

There was a big fuzz made over this when the tournament started but it has died own since, there was more fuzz being made over the team's use of a yellowish green for the away jerseys which many fans, including myself, consider insulting since the team's rival America wears predominantly yellow.

Anyways, it seems that it is a function of the design on the back. Players who use double digits are a bit less awkward looking:

When a player wears a 20+ number the two actually goes out of the red border, creating a sort of nhl-Captains C problem. I've seen pictures of that but I cant find them right now. Here's a view of the aways jerseys:

As you can see they have a similar design in the back and they used the same right justified numbering system

Not trying to be mean, but this was covered in the greatest new season-new uniforms thread ever. :)

[Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008
