All Star Game St. Louis Caps

I noticed a little while back, and then just realized again today while looking through the MLB.com shop that for the Cardinals all three of their caps are being sold with the All-Star patch on the side. I don't quite understand why assuming that only one will be worn on field. Certainly it's just another attempt by new Era and MLB to bring in more $$$, but I never noticed a team having more than one All Star cap released before. I just thought I would comment on this and see if anyone can shed some light with some more details than my speculation.

Money. You can buy jerseys of the super bowl teams with the patch where only one was worn in the game. I see black Steeler ones all the time with the latest SB patch.

Similarly, the Phillies sold a blue gamer with 2008 World Series patch, which never would have been possible. The World Series is not played during the day, and the blue caps are only worn in home games that start in what is considered "day."

Is the patch for these going to be on the back like the Yankees hats have been this year?

Well, it doesn't look like the patch is on the side, (they might not have bothered to put on a patch on the hat in picture, though) and the MLB logo is at the bottom, so it could fit on the back like the Yankees hats.

If it is on the back this year, then I want to get a Nationals or Orioles hat with the patch now. I love the patch on the back idea, but I am not buying a Yankees hat.

I've seen hats with World Series patches that weren't worn during the Series, for instance I have a purple Rockies hat with the '07 Series patch. I've just never seen it with ASG patches before, they've been pretty consistent with just manufacturing the hats that are worn during the game, Host league's home caps and visiting league's away caps. I was just surprised to see it this year. I was looking to buy a Cards ASG hat, and I love their away hats but I don't want to buy it because it just seems silly to me.

I wouldn't think it's silly.. It's the host team. And besides, if everything holds consistent, you know that the Cardinals will be wearing the away hat with the patch. So.. why not?

I purchase a hat from a world series team every year (and every year the team I picked ends up losing. Go figure) and I always try to get the alts that I know will be hardly used or not at all. I think it kinda adds to the uniqueness of the collection.

I like your thinking on the alts and their uniqueness. One of my three favorite souvenirs is a genuine World Series baseball from 1994 -- interesting to me precisely because it was never used.

But in the future, could you please always buy caps from the Phillies, Yankees, or White Sox if they make it to the Series? Just on the off chance that your purchase of a cap actually does influence the outcome against the team whose cap you buy.

In a similar vein, I put a 2001 World Series patch on a purple Diamondbacks jersey.

Oh, and BallWonk, RE: White Sox - cram it.

You know, buying a Yankees hat isn't something I see happening in my future, and buying a Dodgers cap would be like donating money to Sudanese terrorists in my world, but if they ever make the World Series, I think I'm gonna buy their WS hat (and bury it when the series is over, of course) just because I'm superstitious. ^_^

What do you mean, why would the Cards be wearing the away hat with the patch? :therock:

Yeah I'm the same way. Since '96 I bought a WS hat almost every year. All the Yankee hats (96, 98, 99, 2000, 01, 03), I used to have a '97 Indians hat but outgrew it and don't know where it went, an '02 alt Giants hat with the black logo outlined in orange, an '04 Yankee World Series hat interestingly, a red '05 Astros hat, no '06, the Purple '07 Rockies, and an '08 TB. I'm trying to get as many past ASG caps as I can from different teams each year, and especially Futures game hats. I went to the Futures game (as well as the Derby and ASG) last year and meant to buy a Futures game hat but didn't, thinking I would just be able to at a later date. I waited too long however and I can't find any. If anyone knows where I can find a hat with the '08 Futures Game patch on it (any team, preferably except Yankees or Boston..never bought a Sox hat in my life) in size 7 1/2 please let me know. Another one I would love to get is hats worn for the Taco Bell Legends/Celebrity Softball game, but I've never seen them available for purchase.
