MLB 10: The Show

All I can say is wow. Every review online has said it's great, and I have to agree. It's a little tough though. Maybe I'm just not so good at video games anymore, but I remember you could hit 4 home runs in a game, pitch a no hitter, and be all-around awesome in baseball video games. MLB 10 is pretty tough, and most of the games will end up being 4-2 wins with a home run thrown in if you have good timing. Pitching is hard as always because you have to factor in how your pitch breaks. The icon isn't telling you where the pitch ends, but where it will move. So that makes it tough. Otherwise it's a great gaming experience.

Being this is a Sports Logos board, I will say this. FAIL on the throwback uniforms. They tried, but they did it half a$$ed. Numbers aren't right. Missing details...for instance the Marlins 1993 uniforms are in it, but they use the current numbering/lettering. Also they use a teal helmet/black visor on the batting helmets on the road. The Marlins never even used a helmet like that...just their caps. So they definitely don't think throwback uniforms are important in this game. I wish they did. There are throwback players, such as Babe Ruth, etc. However, they don't use their real photos. I don't understand how they can't make some kind of cool black and white baseball card photo for the legends.

If you want a complete gaming review, check it out here from IGN: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/107/1073732p1.html. I think it's a fair write-up. Anyone else getting the game?

I got it yesterday and have only played it a little bit, however, my Road To The Show character is a 1B with OF as a second position but our starting Catcher got injured so New Hampshire threw me in there and I must say it is pretty cool but very time consuming playing 1 game at Catcher.

I just got it today and have played one game so far. I lost 3-2 to the Dodgers because I completely mismanaged the game. This is a feature that I absolutely love, no other game does in-game management quite as well as the Sony baseball series, and it looks like it's only gotten better. I can't wait to play more.

Picked it up Tuesday night. Gameplay is similar to MLB09, so not much retraining to get the controls right.

Creating a player for Road to the Show has more limitations than in past seasons. You can only increase your base attributes by 5 points at most, so it's giving you a more well-rounded player, instead of being able to create a speedster or slugging phenom right off he bat.

I am doing RTTS, and this version also has fielding drills in addition to batting and baserunning. You can also have batting practice before your game, but I haven't figured its purpose besides figuring out the timing of your swing. It doesn't seem to add any training points.

One of my scheduled games was on Mother's Day, and everyone used pink bats. Cute touch. And I've seen some umpiring crews wear the powder blue shirts instead of black, and one home plate umpire got hit with a foul ball.

The one glitch I saw (which also happened in previous versions) is that the game makes your player right-handed if you are placed in the infield other than first base, regardless if you are left or right handed.

As far as the sun tracking goes, it seems to be accurate. Games do get darker around sunset, and day games have their own difficulties with tracking some fly balls.

Is '10 that much different/better than '09?

I just went to the used video game store last week and picked up '09 for $15. Went online and downloaded up-to-date rosters. Seems like it would be a better deal to me.

I played it against a buddy of mine a bit more last night. Hitting is HARD, and strikeouts are a bit too easy to get. I want to approach the hitting in every baseball game like it was in MVP Baseball 05, just hack away and see who can outscore the other player. It definitely doesn't work like that in MLB 10.

First game was Angels vs Yankees

Weaver 14 Ks

Sabathia 18 Ks

Second game was Yankees vs Giants

Sabathia 16 Ks

Lincecum 22 Ks

Yeah, that's right... 22 Ks. That's a bit ridiculous.

Mine should be coming literally any minute now, the email said it was out for delivery this morning, but no mail yet. The last one I have is 08, so I'm expecting more of a difference than most. But the numbers on throwback jerseys are never right. They always use the current number font that a team uses on the throwback jersey, unless a throwback is listed as a current alternate (ie. the Brewers). I was told they go by whatever the MLB media sheets or whatever they are called show, and I guess that's the only place they get their uniform resources.

I think the Home Run Derby is really cool in this one. I have been playing that with my brother and it is really nice to have that feature back. I am just starting RTTS so the jury is still out of if it is any different/better than last years. But so far I like everything that I have done with it.

This was the first thing I noticed in RTTS. I'm not left handed, but they don't even give you the option? Any lefties out there throw with your right? It's just weird! This is the first MLB game I've played. I bought a PS3 specifically for this game, because 2K's baseball sucked hard last year.

If you pre-ordered it, it came with a special code allowing you to download 6 classic stadiums, including Polo Grounds, Forbes Field and Crosley Field.

I was under the impression that the classic stadiums will be available later at a cost. The new "Project $10" video game companies are trying to get money from used game purchases. Doesn't matter though, I pre-ordered.

Anyone get Movie Maker to work? Can you only put together replays of the current game, or can you save stuff to add in from multiple games?

Is anyone else finding this game to be extremely frustrating? The number of strikeouts is completely absurd on both sides of the ball, passed balls on five or six pitches in a row, nearly every batter who strikes out has to be thrown out at first because the catcher dropped the ball, ect. So far there are a lot of things I'm really not liking about this game.

Did you get the patch?
