Fox getting the rights to the World Cup?

So what channels will Fox use to broadcast the games? Fox Network and Fox Soccer are guarantees I suppose, but maybe FX and Fox Sports Net will be thrown in too.

Considering that MSNBC and CNBC have become regular Olympic outlets for Universal, I wouldn't be surprised to see Fox News get some of it. Fox News in Qatar... now that should be interesting, in a train-wreck sort of way.

1-Probably not since the Olympic Games have multiple sports airing as the same times. The FIFA World Cup does not do that but on the last match days to avoid teams "tanking" on goal differential to let others move on.

2-The new UFC contract has FOX having events on FOX, FX, and FuelTV. FX is a given since it is they have had it become more into sports with the C-USA and Big XII football contracts. Plus, FX is available in 99M homes and is seventh in total viewers and adults 18-49 and fifth in both men 18-34 and men 18-49 out of 89 ad-supported cable. FuelTV may have a future. Currently, it may assist FOX to get more $$ now from their DirecTV issue depending on contract length.

3-Who knows what will occur with the FOX Sports programming for current CSN stations or even Root Sports which carry their programming now. DirecTV and NBCUniversal may want to carry other programming than FSN stuff (outside of NBA/NHL contrtacts). College realignment may impact that cable distribution too.

4- Generally, if you want to see a game on broadcast tv in 2018, just get Rosetta Stone now and learn to love Telemundo or soccer in HD but with Spanish announce crews. Heck we will get the return of Andres Cantor for the World Cup for at least 2015.

5 -As far as the current FOX coverage, the Sept. 18 tape delay airing of ManU/Chlesea was the highest rated EPL game in US history. Only the pre-show was shot in Los Angeles. And it was aired tape delayed. While the broadcast was panned deservedly so, the Barca/ManU Champions League final doubled the households for the inter/Bayern final a year before.

6 -That "death of ESPN" comment earlier today is preposterous, but possibly worthy of another thread. Check your (or your parent's) cable bill and look at the fees/charges before taxes. the ESPN family on average gets $3-5 of those charges on 100M subscribers. Hardly a reason to fold shop on when they also get advertising dollars too.

6- FOX (News Corp.) has to still deal with DirecTV.

While they're at it maybe they can take away the World Cup from Qatar and give to the U.S.

How many members of the FIFA board are we up to now that have either come under an ethics investigation or resigned rather then face one as a direct result of Qater getting the World Cup?
