OnWis97
How long into the Rays' existence did they start questioning the long term viability of the Tampa baseball market?Tropicana Field was already out of date and in need of renovations before the (Devil) Rays played a single game. It's really hard to believe that the Rays moved into that ballpark in 1998. It was three years later that ballpark issues nearly led to the contraction of the Twins...I don't think the Trop is that much more viable than the Metrodome was. I know the expansion team was probably awarded a few years before that, but it's still amazing to me how recently that was and how little time it was until it was considered unviable. I would guess MLB regretted allowing this before the Devil Rays ever took the field. Kramerica Industries
Just how long do the rays have left on its lease? Lease isn't up until after 2027.

sc49erfan15
Saying this is like saying Arian Foster is going to pass Emmitt Smith as all-time NFL rushing leader because he's had 3 good seasons.
Lights Out
Probably around early May of 1998.That's generous. They were awarded the franchise on March 9, 1995, so I'm thinking roughly March 10, 1995. POTD: 2/4/12 3/4/
Gothamite
I'd say about the second game of the inaugural season, when they failed to sell out and attendance fell off the cliff. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.
