  1. Count me down as liking the notifications. However, quoting a quoted post only shows the most recent post, which kind of convolutes things. Example: I quoted McCarthy's post above which quoted CS85's post, but only McCarthy's appears. Hopefully this is something that will be fixed.
  2. CIRCULAR AVATAR = ROUNDEL SHEEP Just kidding. I think everything looks good so far. I'd like to see sigs back, but again, y'all said it's still a work in progress.
  3. I find it odd that bat says "two base hits" instead of "doubles." Also, why does it seem that printed capital Rs look different pre-1960 or so? Please tell me I'm not the only one who sees this.
  4. Apart from very subtle details (NFL shield), that looks like 1996 Ray Lewis is tackling 1988 James Brooks. It's those Champion numbers. So early 90s.
  5. ^Now that's an example of what good summer collegiate ball can look like. Beautiful. The first and third feel like they're two parts of the same package, given that they've got the same script (which is fantastic and miles ahead of the script in the middle one). I'm not sure where, if anywhere, there's a cap logo in those two - but they're very good primaries. I can't figure out what's going on in the middle one. It looks like just a disembodied engine with wings. There's no cockpit or... well... anything except a modern plane engine that inexplicably has wings and a tail fin. Odd.
  6. Didn't consider that. Well, at least they're not stealing it from someone. It's not good, but it's far from the worst thing in summer collegiate ball.
  7. Pretty sure they took that Generals mark straight from the Jackson Generals. Or at least copied it pretty closely. I can't tell if it's the exact same font, just stretched - or just a similar font. Also, the "Rome" being in another "Western-inspired" font that's similar to (yet different enough from) "Generals," makes me think Rome's is a hack-and-paste Frankenlogo. The illustration (tricorne hat, ponytail) says "Patriot" more than "General" to me. I'm assuming it's lifted from somewhere - but where? (Commence scouring D3, NAIA, and other minor league logos...)
  8. Likes: Seahorse, especially the "hidden" N in the trident. Dislikes: almost everything else. Green and orange are not nautical colors, and they don't look good together here. Too much going on with the wordmark, and the outlines are too thick. Like Gothamite said, the anchor logo is a stretch and doesn't work. Seeing the "T" logo alone makes me thing the "T" stands for "Turtles." There was absolutely nothing wrong with this: Not saying it was perfect, but if they wanted to update, they shouldn't have had to stray too far from that.
  9. Ugh. I tried my best to forget about that game. I don't think completed passes were possible. It's bad when the only good memories from a game are the funny headlines from the newspapers. "Cheerleader maimed in freak punting accident" was my favorite.
  10. Madden '98 for SNES still had the Bucs in creamsicle orange. It was the last Madden game ever released for SNES, so it's pretty safe to assume they didn't do much more than change the rosters and update the pregame menus, and pass it off as a new game.
  11. So close to being perfect. There's too much detail in the batter, but that's still some pretty good stuff.
  12. Let's just remind ourselves what they gave up for that hairball: I'm not saying it was perfect (I was, however, a big fan of the "BG" logo with the flames from the tailpipes), but it was good. It was fun. Better than average. What they have now, as Sodboy said - that's college wood-bat league . And not even good college wood-bat league .
  13. Appy League logo looks great. Just for comparison, Old: New: This, combined with the fact that I just finished Dirk Hayhurst's "The Bullpen Gospels" and just started "Bluegrass Baseball" (both on audiobook), makes me miss MiLB already. I regret not having the time or the means to make it out to the ballpark more this summer - especially when living in an MiLB-saturated area such as North Carolina.
  14. The monogram and monochrome logo looks fantastic. There's just something about the full logo that throws me off, though. There's a lot going on. I think making the "SL" monogram a little bigger and eliminating the sunburst from behind the diamond would help with that. For some reason, I'm not sold on the block font choice, either.
  15. Very nice, but that "H" monogram is a mess. The crawdad obscures the letterform, and it doesn't read clearly as a letter. I've really grown to appreciate Studio Simon's work, but I do agree with this. The set could lose the H logo because it is kind of confusing to make out at first glance, but I'm guessing they needed something as the cap logo. Other than that, the lettering is stylized just right to give it that old school baseball vibe, and I do love how the crawdad is submerged in the weeds to give it a bit of that watery habitat feel. There are at least 4 Crawdads hats: Plus one that isn't available yet, but features the claw logo over the outline of the state of NC, on a "tri-color" hat, seen here. Someone already mentioned the similarity to SAL North rival Lakewood BlueClaws. I was reminded of not only the white hat pictured below, but another BlueClaws alternate that had the crab "peeking" out of the water very similar to Hickory's alternate. I can't for the life of me find a picture of the hat I'm talking about - but I have one at home.
  16. Took me until "American League" in the first sentence before I realized you weren't talking about Mormons. I really was intrigued as to why 1995 was so important to Latter-Day Saints.
  17. Solid upgrade, except for the "Holy City" - I've never heard of someone actually refer to Charleston as that. "Chucktown," yes... but that wouldn't have made for a good alternate script either.
  18. San Francisco 49ers - It was 1992/93 (Kindergarten/1st grade), I had just discovered what football was via kids at school (the only sport my parents liked was NASCAR), the 49ers were good, I picked them. By 3rd grade I was a full-fledged 49ers fan, and it just stuck. Steve Young is my all-time favorite player and always will be. The late high school/college years ('03-'09) weren't so good, so I was ecstatic for the 49ers' to greatness the past few years. Of course, now, they're terrible again - but that's fandom for you. Winthrop Eagles basketball - I'm an alum. I was their mascot. I've seen them play in something like 33 different arenas from Miami to Spokane and in every continental time zone. They went to 3 NCAA tournaments in my 4 years as a student, and I was there to see their only win. I hold onto the glory years. Atlanta Braves - If you grow up in the South and have any interest in baseball, you're a Braves fan 99% of the time. Again, my parents didn't care for any other sport than NASCAR, but there always seemed to be Braves games on TV. I'd love coming home from school in late April/May and find the Braves game on. Charlotte Hornets - Like any kid in the '90s, I loved the Hornets. Growing up 15 minutes from Charlotte, I had no idea that kids across the whole damn country also loved the Hornets. I have a soft spot in my heart for the Bobcats, but it can't touch the '90s nostalgia that the Hornets had.
  19. Coastal Carolina from Big South to Sun Belt in 2016-17 As much as I hate Coastal, I really wish they would've stayed to preserve the Winthrop-Coastal rivalry. It's the premier basketball rivalry in the Big South. I fully expect the Big South to raid the A-Sun now.
  20. 100% of the 122 teams in the four major sports leagues have played in at least one other city. Nobody plays all their games at home!
  21. I had a friend just send me some pics, it looks like the Columbia MiLB team will be the Columbia Fireflies.
