MLB Stadium Saga: Oakland/Tampa Bay/Southside
Red Wolf replied to So_Fla's topic in Sports In General
I like the idea that Florida can't have MLB teams because of spring training because it's such a weird argument that ignores all of the actual reasons for the teams to not be there. I'm also stealing this argument for why Arkansas doesn't have Major League Baseball since Hot Springs used to host spring training and ignoring all of the actual reasons.- 3,837 replies

I hope they at least use that interlocking KC on the kangaroo's sweater on basically everything.

People of even below average intelligence could probably tell the difference between baseball and politics. Doesn't seem like a real issue to me. Unless people in Los Angeles are super dumb, but I never got that impression. I like it. But blame the car companies for killing public transit in Southern California if you must.

ESPN+ gets you Sun Belt Conference sports which is worth the price of admission alone. Also getting cheaper access to the content MLS Live used to have.

Red Storm? Red [Noun] is what you're supposed to call yourself when you used to be a Native American-themed team.

I think that's taken care of by Washington and Washington State basketball.

ESPN+ is finally on PS4 and Xbox One. https://www.polygon.com/2018/10/30/18043056/espn-plus-ps4-xbox-one

Well, that could send us down a rabbit hole of "lions aren't blue." For me, a lot of the reason I want this is separation from the Browns. The Bengals' origins, and older uniforms make it clear that they were meant to be a Browns clone. Plus, nobody else in the league wears orange helmets and orange jerseys as their primary look. I'd even like them to have orange pants added as the away option because orange-white-orange can be a great look (unless you're the Browns).
-
The Cincinnati Bengals should wear orange jerseys as their primary. I don't know that this necessarily constitutes an unpopular opinion (I've never seen it elsewhere), but this seems like the best place to put this thought.

This is pretty much exactly how I got into soccer in the first place. I used a sketchy-ass Russian site for extra games, but basically the same.

Watching a college football game and now I'm actually super annoyed with the new ESPN bottomline. The scorebug hangs right above where the ad slot on the bottomline is and all I can think is how cool it would be if the scorebug were placed in that spot instead. The ad area is so gigantic it's absurd. And with the height of the damn bottomline now, I feel like they could lay out the scrolling scores with teams above and below instead of side-by-side, which would save room and totally make all of this work.

That hasn't distracted me as much as the fact that the damn thing is bigger than the old one. I got my Fire today. I'm exploiting my ability to properly watch ESPN+ on my TV by watching women's college soccer. Not so much because I want to, but because now I can.

Heck, the old mobile ESPN apps were just updated with Plus support rather than getting a whole new one. It's absolutely baffling. I just put in an order for an Amazon Fire TV because of course I did. They currently have the one with 4K support on sale for the same price as the stick, so I may as well have done that. This is an interesting question. One thing I found odd as an Apple TV user was how different the apps on it were compared to other devices. I assume this is because of Apple's more closed system nature. For instance, the Netflix and Hulu apps on Apple were virtually identical in their presentation. Whereas on any other devices, Netflix and Hulu look very different from each other.

No, PS4 doesn't have one of those. I really don't want to buy another streaming thing. I've got the PS4 and an older Apple TV. Apparently newer Apple TVs have the app, so maybe I just need to suck it up and spend some money, but it's just really annoying. Maybe I'll go out and get an Amazon Fire TV so I have ESPN+ and NJPW World. Dumb story, I once hooked a PS4 through the Xbox's HDMI at a friend's house. The input lag makes it impossible to play anything, but I thought it was neat.

Neat. Now where's my PS4 app?

Really going for that Football Clippers title.

Everything about the launch seemed weirdly haphazard. Even the date. For a long time they basically just said, "April or March or whenever" and then announced the official launch date less than two weeks beforehand.
-
Yeah, I can't believe they launched this thing without support for so many devices. Hell, I can't believe there wasn't just an update to the existing WatchESPN apps those devices had like what was done on iOS and the like. I can't watch it using my PS4 or Apple TV , but my dad gets to use it with his Roku which is odd. I think the newer Apple TV's might have it, but still, so odd that I can watch on my iPhone or iPad which just got updates to the regular ESPN app, but I can't on other things. Hopefully they get this stuff out in time for football season.

They offered big money (less than $24M) to the Sun Belt as well. Falwell Jr. then took to calling everybody in C-USA and the Sun Belt religious bigots. The fact that they hired the POS Baylor AD to be the head of their own athletics department is enough for me to root against them.
-
The MLS Live is huge for me, and the Sun Belt will live on ESPN+, so I pretty much have to get it.
