  1. Is it though? Gargoyles always seems to be one of the most popular recommended names for New York teams whenever there's a thread about nicknames that go well with cities.
  2. I could’ve sworn it was, but it doesn’t appear on Phoenix’s website. I’d assume that it would have been removed after the redesign, but they still have a ton of schools on there who have gotten redesigns in the interim, so I’m guessing they didn’t design it.
  3. So basically, they chose the winner, had someone create two flags and a cheap website that would take 20 minutes, rigged their own online poll, then "disqualified" the top two so they could get clicks in the midst of "controversy."
  4. It's an internet poll, of course #4 was going to win.
  5. So, this year is Maine's Bicentennial, and they've created a special flag that will fly through 2020. And well? It's :censored:ing garbage. What makes it even more frustrating and embarrassing is that the state legislature turned down a plan to return to the 1901 flag. The tree design could use work, but that's a million times better.
  6. They’ve got two other letters in front of it though, this just creates the illusion of the two lightning bolt S’s with nothing else. I definitely saw what Ice Cap saw before reading his comment. If multiple people are seeing that, it’s a problem. Otherwise, the design is interesting, though I also agree the contrast is pretty low, a very slightly lighter gold color would fix that. Maybe I missed it in another post, but what was your rationale for the different parts of the design? I always love hearing where inspiration came from on flag design.
  7. In Maine, you can buy hard liquor at gas stations.
  8. Two involving the color red from me: Red letters/numbers on grey uniforms are almost universally terrible. The Blackhawks away uniform is the most overrated in sports. Red numbers would change that.
  9. Nice to see the Bulls and Sea Dogs on the list again. Both are great examples of looks that have staying power and don't need to be changed despite being a bit dated. I know a few years back the Sea Dogs were contemplating a logo change to be a bit more modern, but fans were opposed to it. Glad they didn't make a switch.
  10. Can people please stop with the Los Angeles Aztecs thing? The city of LA has literally zero relation to the Aztec empire, which was located in Central/Southern Mexico.
  11. I'm not going to maintain literature doesn't matter, but it's ridiculous that people on this site say sports don't matter. Sports are a major part of our identity. Hell, you can't truly understand the history of the United States without baseball. Sports have played a major part of the civil rights movement, played a role in the cold war, helped repair relations with Japan after WW2, created some of our most noted celebrities, provides insight to labor issues, antitrust, regularly gets roped into politics, national and local. Sure, what name a team uses may not appear that big of a deal, but recording those histories correctly can provide insight on how capitalism and consumerism impact sports in more ways than people realize. Hell, we talk about that every single day here. We should preserve history as best we can, even if the matters seem trivial, because that's how future generations learn and adapt. Besides, isn't it easier to just pretend the new Hornets are the old hornets if it means that much to you than bending over backwards to rewrite history?
  12. LA’s weird like that. People are ready to cut your head of for pronouncing is Los Angeleez, but have zero problem pronouncing Los Feliz as “las feelis.”
  13. This is an incredible example of what happens when a client takes the time to realize that it needs to separate from a terrible studio and go to a great one. Torch did an excellent job here, reminds me a lot of the Washington Huskies. Meanwhile, can someone explain what the hell happened to Phoenix Design Works? I seem to remember that had some pretty decent stuff back in the day, but now their portfolio is just littered with some garbage. The old SIU logo isn't even close to the worst they showcase.
  14. Which means we're 100% getting the Worcester Wicked Worms with 10 trillion Brandiose logos featuring worm wearing a tricorn hat, swinging a steel beam, while eating chowder and baked beans.
  15. They're not, and good riddance. That is honestly one of the worst logos ever. With the new one, there are a few issues I have with the husky head, but overall it's pretty solid. Though, it NEEDS the red eye. That N logo is hot garbage
  16. This looks like more of a situation where an intern, or whoever made the video just did a google search for the logo, and didn't know that this wasn't the real logo. Happens all the time.
  17. So, the article on the main site did a really bad job explaining just what the promotion actually is. The Lugnuts are doing a Backyard Baseball themed night. Backyard Baseball for those who aren't initiated, was a (fantastic) children's sports video game from the 90s (based on the comments, a lot of people aren't familiar). One of the main features was that you selected your team's name from two lists, one of descriptors and one of mascots. Those are the name choices that are being selected here.
  18. Humongous Melonheads is the only truly valid name for a Backyard Baseball themed night
  19. The Show 16 has a TON of uniform examples. Off the top of my head: Throwback pullover uniforms all had buttons (at least all the ones I saw), a lot of minor league teams had issues... The Portland Sea Dogs had royal blue helmets, navy blue numbers, and the Red Sox old socks (The Seadogs are basically just a carbon copy of the Red Sox in real life), the Binghamton Mets had orange numbers, and at least one or two teams had alternates that I can't prove exist.
  20. It's not a problem with the uniforms themselves, but in NCAA 14, the home crowd for Umass (who played generic stadium, rather than Gillette) wore red and blue.
  21. My goodness, I must be hallucinating again. All those unique stripe patterns that I'm seeing are actually boring and generic! Love the work OldSchool. Some really ingenious ideas here, though I'm not huge on the Columbus road jersey, I'd stick to white. I know it isn't matching with the home if you do that, but it'd still be close enough where I think it could work.
  22. Has anyone else had this happen to them? Basically, the page I was on was in my reply box, and was fully functional. I've never had this happen before, and no clue how it occurred. Refreshing the page fixed the problem, but I'm pretty curious about it.
  23. I was thinking the exact same thing watching the game the other night. Red numbers would make the road set infinitely better than what they have now. I'm not a huge fan of the homes because I'm not a fan of that style of hem striping, which is incidentally why I like Dallas' white sweater so much more than the home.
  24. I don't like the inaugural green sweaters
