  1. I'd argue that's what they did. I prefer the block numbers of the color rush, but the black sleeves with white stripes is silly. I think the stripped down road look is dynamite. They won this game, by the way.
  2. That logo from 1997 using navy blue and light blue together demonstrates that it wasn't a completely out-of-nowhere color scheme for the Blue Jackets to use for an alternate. That combined with the Union soldier's uniform I already shared and you can see more meaning behind it than the Panthers alternate of the same time. The Panthers alternate was 100% "And this racing stripe here I feel is pretty sharp." Also that's a humorously deliberate misreading of Icecap's point.
  3. It bothered the heck out of little me and I didn't have anyone in my life that I was able to safely talk about it with. I wonder how many uni-nerds were born out of the NFL 75th throwbacks in 94.
  4. You can spin it like the colors were evocative of hot-rod culture, which I can buy so the colors never felt completely out of place to me. But the real reason they went to that scheme was it because it was the mid-90's, teal was hot, and the owners also owned the Detroit Vipers and they used the same colors. I loved those uniforms, but I am not a Pistons fan, wasn't old enough to have experienced the Bad Boys era, and was the perfect dumb age (nine) to think they were cool. This is like what we were talking about a few pages ago with the oversaturation of team alternates and uni changes now means there's no stakes to uniform changes anymore. In the 90's we didn't' have a strong understanding of how to use alternate uniforms yet so if you wanted to change uniforms you jumped out of the plane with no parachute. The Pistons and Islanders are the two biggest examples of that to me. Went from somewhat staid looks that were associated with multiple championships to completely throwing out the brand entirely for trend-chasing 90's-tastic looks. If that happened today each team would just market test the new look as an alternate.
  5. Never thought we'd see that jersey again. Only thing I don't love about it is the white stripes on the black sleeves when the regular road whites corrected that. Looks weird right next to the inverse of that on the helmet. I think it's funny that 5 years of people photoshopping the white helmets on pictures of that uniform and tweeting "wear white helmets with those jerseys!!!!!1111!!!!! LOL" willed it into existence. That's what all these alternate helmets are for, ultimately - engagement.
  6. I'm not going to rank the new helmets, just going to separate them into two groups - they're either ASS or they're CLASS ASS Bears, Cardinals, Cowboys unnecessary white helmets, Commanders, Eagles, Jets, Saints CLASS Bengals, Cowboys throwbacks, Panthers, Texans, Falcons, Giants, Patriots
  7. The Bears orange helmet is the exact reason why I was never in favor of alternate helmets. Teams cannot help themselves. I'm surprised the Seahawks haven't announced a bright green helmet, which would upset every Seahawks fan I know because they've all wanted silver throwbacks for two decades now.
  8. Good grief. I guess handsome men hadn’t yet reached Canada by 1962.
  9. They finally put Skatin' Johnny on a jersey only to use the old version and not the new better version. If that's real it's like a joke on me specifically.
  10. Have you ever seen the cannon without the roundel? It's a well-rendered illustration, but by itself it lacks a certain punch. That and every bad CBJ concept on the internet has used just the cannon and I don't like it. See I like that the alternate doesn't use any red. It makes it a true alternate brand, kind of like a clash kit in soccer.
  11. The Blue Jackets extended Laine for 4 years, but everything has a price and they had to send Oliver Bjorkstrand to Seattle for a 2nd and 3rd round pick to get under the cap. I hate that for my beloved Blue Jackets, but love that for my beloved Kraken. Bjorkstrand has 4 more years left on his deal and the analytics nerds think it's one of the most efficient contracts in the league. It's a semi-homecoming for Bjorkstrand because he played his junior hockey in Portland. Kraken fans are going to love this dude. I'm really bummed about it. He scored one of the biggest goals in franchise history so we'll always have that. The rest of the league has no idea how good he is. I will miss having him.
  12. According to President Creamer the helmets are going to be worn with their regular white jerseys.
  13. I'll explain why I love that jersey, but I don't agree that it's soulless or generic. That was a valid criticism when they were released in 2010 and a reason I didn't love them at first, but the longer they wear them and as all of those teams stopped wearing double blue roundel logos, the more it became their look, and they feel right for the franchise. At this point they've outlasted every single one of the pictured uniforms, brought back twice after two seasons when nobody used alternates, and have become their own little corner of the Blue Jackets brand that I wouldn't mind if they just wrapped the entire brand around. Also there's a legitimate justification for that franchise with that namesake using those colors that neither the Panthers or Penguins can claim. Plus I just think the uniform looks good as a piece of jersey design. It may have been a contribution to a trend at the time of it's release, but it's lasted longer than the trend so now it's just a solid look. They don't look anything like the Kraken or the Jets so that's not a concern. Theirs also predate both so even if that was a concern then take it up with the Kraken and Jets.
  14. Tuesday Night MACtion looking ass uniform.
  15. It's beautiful. Now we wait for the new orangeless jerseys these will be paired with. I bet they wear these at their "Welcome Back" event on July 30th. Rumor is they're going to bring back the 2017 color rush unis.
  16. I believe you mean Ohio University
  17. Was only a matter of time. It was always kind of weird the "cheap" Bengals left money on the table for over two full decades to keep the name clean. No fooling, this is probably because the Bengals know they're going to need guaranteed cash on hand for the Burrow and Chase extensions. I feel like it will be, but have no evidence to back that up. P&G Field at Paul Brown Stadium doesn't sound terrible and everyone will still just call it PBS.
  18. I think that looks sharp and would look even better with the red cuffs on the pants. Found a better picture of the one game (I think it was only one) when they wore the blue pants with the white jersey at the end of 2021. I love how that looks. If I had to put money on what they'll be wearing in ten years, though, my guess would be this will be the full-time home look and they'll have a matching white version for the road.
  19. They tried this at the end of the 2021 season and I loved how it looked. The flip side is I suppose this likely means the return of the awful red Reverse Retros.
  20. This is good news in my eyes. Not sure if this is an every road game thing or just an alternate.
  21. I guess I shouldn't have used "non-design" because doing nothing is still a design choice. I'm just over minimalism in lieu of actually trying something bold and then passing it off as "look how clean these are!" Yeah, they're clean, you invented a plain white tank top. Congratulations.
  22. Yes the stakes are gone. Same reason I can't be moved to care about college football uniforms. They'll wear them once and change again next week. When the Pistons and Islanders dumped their dynasty looks for 90's teal it was a big deal because they went in with both feet, there was no guarantee they'd ever go back. If that happened today they would just be an alternate uniform and it wouldn't matter nearly as much. I had sportscenter on last season, half paying attention while I looked at my phone, looked up at whatever NBA game was on and I literally didn't know what two teams I was watching. If they sell more jerseys as a result of the constant changing then I guess the math works for them and they don't care about damaging their brands' strength, but I don't have to like it as a fan of sports aesthetics.
  23. Maybe the reason people gravitate to 90's throwbacks so hard is because that was an era when teams took risks and then committed to the risks for years so the designs had time to actually cement themselves in our memories. Is any kid going to have warm feelings about this set of stripeless Cavs uniforms ten years from now? Especially when they've already moved on to 3 more uni sets by then. I don't feel like they will.
