  1. YAY! They should've been doing this for years. Reasons why I like this move: - builds mutual interest for both cities. Cleveland hockey fans will get to follow their favorite guys to the CBJ and continue to watch them on FSO. Columbus residents are a quick drive away from seeing the prospects in person. But most especially will pull more Clevelanders towards the Blue Jackets. Since coming into the NHL the corners (Cincinnati and Cleveland) haven't been that interested in the Blue Jackets. At the very least, it can't hurt the Blue Jackets efforts to grow their fanbase within their own state. - easier for callups to get to Columbus. There's been a couple cases where an AHL guy was needed that night and they couldn't get him from Springfield to Columbus in time. - Big city Cleveland farming talent for little, non-descript Columbus. Call it an inferiority complex, but I love the idea of "big bad" Cleveland being the little brother to Columbus. It's the exact opposite in baseball. A nice trade-off.
  2. That's a good one. If you asked me if the Ducks were still using those uniforms in 1999 I would've confidently said no.
  3. Marlins might be a better comparison because the Sharks have never worn anything as drastically terrible as what the Jags are in now.
  4. There was a time when I thought those Nike skates were the coolest things on the planet. Especially Fedorov's white skates, but they look really silly now. The Sharks are the Jacksonville Jaguars of the NHL. Knocked it out of the park on their first try and have been downgrading ever since.
  5. I like the idea of Cleveland farming talent for Columbus on several levels. Make it happen!
  6. These are the kinds of banners you'd see for franchises who've won a championship, maybe two, tops. But hey; management has to find someway, anyway, to bring Devils fans to Newark this season. It's the 20th anniversary of their first one. It's not like they said "there's no butts in the seats, Lou. We need Ken Daneyko on the ice stat." They probably had this planned since before the season began.
  7. If you take away the stripes from any jersey it's a blank jersey. The most intricately striped jersey is blank without any stripes. Not sure what you're trying to say there. I'd argue that the detailed logo pairs nicely with simple striping. Too many stripes matched with that logo would be visual overkill. They've worn these since the 30's. There's some historical context to why they're so simple or as you put it "generic". They were actually one of the first to adopt that template and the red sleeves on the aways are hardly generic. That so many other teams have borrowed the look since they created it is not their fault. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. It's not like these are a new design adopted by a 1990's Florida expansion team or something. Also, they tried a different number font and it lasted exactly one season.
  8. Jack Johnson hated living in LA for all the regular reasons people hate living in LA. Plus, I don't think his attitude fit in with the rest of the dressing room. The irony now is that Jack Johnson was excited to get to Columbus because he'd be closer to family, but as it turns out moving closer to Michigan just meant they were now able to literally steal money out of his pockets rather than stealing from him from across the country through shadier channels. and f*** Jeff Carter forever, but if there was ever a hockey player born to play for Los Angeles, it's that douche. Those two are a match made in d***head heaven.
  9. I really like this. Only gripes: They're called the Black Bears, but it feels like more emphasis was placed on the mountains. Also, if they must use the baseball sun it should be have a black outline around it to maintain consistency with the other outlines throughout the logo. That white butting up against the blue is visually jarring for this reason and looks unfinished. And in this context it'd be okay to use a yellow baseball. Not everything has to be literal all the time. I mean, West Virginia's mountains aren't actually black and light blue either. But overall, really nice job. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the package.
  10. I wouldn't classify what the Kings wear as "Bettman piping". This is Bettman Piping
  11. The blue pants weren't a completely terrible idea. Would've been okay with some white socks with stripes that matched the sleeve stripes. The gray socks ruin it.
  12. Was rooting for that outcome. Too bad it didn't happen. Yeah, that would have been awesome. Don't know how it "would've looked bad on the NFL" for those teams to play each other. Because it would've called into question whether the integrity of the sport was compromised by an artificial and unfair stacking of the two newest franchises that previously existing franchises weren't afforded due simply to their seniority. Even Carolina going 7-9 in their first year and both those teams making the conference championship in their second year caused people to question whether the league made it too easy for the Panthers and Jaguars. That led to more difficult expansion parameters applied to the Browns and Texans. The league decided they were never going to make it that easy on an expansion team ever again.
  13. Regarding Kerry Collins and the Panthers, I forgot they wore blue socks with their silver pants and black jerseys in their first season. Related: It would've been really weird and would've looked bad on the NFL if the Panthers and Jaguars had played each other in the Super Bowl in their second years.
  14. The Bucs appeared different in 1980 as well. That was the only year the Bucs wore orange numbers outlined in red. They've worn red numbers every year since.
  15. I'd say Kerry Collins in this order: 1. Giants - because he took them to a Super Bowl by way of a well publicized thrashing of the Vikings in the NFCCG and then played like ass in said Super Bowl. That made an indelible image of him with the Giants for me. 2. Panthers - He was around for the beginning of a new cool looking franchise and took the new guys to the NFCCG in 96. 3. Penn State - went undefeated his senior year 4. Titans - had that one random good season. Lost to the a$$holes from baltimore at home in the division round. 5. Raiders - I forgot he played for them 6. Colts - I had no idea he played for them.
  16. Would Milwaukee even be considered a 4 sport town? People sort of give them the Packers, but that's almost two hours away. I don't doubt that most Milwuakeeans are also Packers fans, but I've always thought of it more as Wisconsin's team than anything. If I'm reading the pulse of Milwaukee like I think I am I think the potential NHL team would instantly be more popular than the Bucks simply by not having a history of angering the city. So they'd be second behind the Brewers, which is fine because they play in different seasons.
  17. You were outraged enough about this to post it in two threads. If you cared this much about the All-Star game MVP you could've twitter voted for Tavares as many times as you wanted.
  18. Their travel is probably more rigorous. Every game is a road game for the officials and I'm willing to bet some teams officiate more than 82 games in a season.
  19. This one is impressive. Nice find. Here's something more: the Vikings have worn a different uniform the last three times they've played the Bengals. That's 2005 above. Here's 2009 and here's 2013
  20. As a kid with no soccer knowledge when the MLS started I thought United was a 90's-tastic singular nickname as in Dallas Burn, Miami Fusion, Tampa Bay Mutiny, Columbus Crew, etc. It wasn't until 2004 or 2005 when I realized it was more like Manchester United.
  21. BTW, everytime I read this thread title I think "MY NAME IS WAKEFIELD GOTTA BOX FULL OF YOUR TOYS"
  22. Florida is averaging 8,981 http://espn.go.com/nhl/attendance
  23. 2003. The only time this uniform matchup happened. Last year of those Bengals uniforms, sadly, and the second year for the Seahawks slate blue uniforms. Bonus points for the rarely-worn white over blue pants combination. When they played again in 2007 and 2011 the Bengals were in road whites on top of black pants and the Seahawks were in slate blue monochromes. so I guess that's a rare matchup as well.
  24. Every hockey game I've ever been to has done that. When I was in Everett last Saturday a bunch of us were standing at the top of the stairs waiting for play to stop and big ol doofus I don't know anything comes strolling by, through all of us, and walks down the stairs to his seat. "yeah we're all just choosing to stand up here, pal"
