They couldn’t even wait for the Heat’s playoff run to end, could they?

I’m bummed for Stockton being among the latest scorched-earth (pardon the pun) market hit by Flames management. I’m also bummed that a larger, closer ECHL city like Salt Lake or Boise got passed over for AHL hockey (again), but the silver lining here is that neither of those cities will be Calgary’s next victim.

The talk around the league is that Salt Lake isnt interested in moving up to the AHL level.

With that said, a Rays' City Connect uni will likely focus more on Tampa than St. Petersburg. Other than a gradient-heavy marine sanctuary motif and/or a beach, what else would be pulled from St Pete?

While the future of the team may be in Tampa proper, they sure as heck dont want to pee in the Cheerios of St Pete right now, since the Rays are still looking for a permanent new venue somewhere in the next 5 years or so.  My thought is that we might see something that encompasses the entire Tampa Bay region and not one specific city.  The Skyway Bridge is a design aspect that could be utilized, as well as a Tampa Bay wordmark of some kind since its not used on any current jersey at the moment.

Rays apparently dropping their gray road jersey next year. Wonder if this means if we’ll get Columbia blue pants to go with the jersey as their new road look?

I would hope the light blue jerseys get light blue pants at least for road games.  The combo of light blue and gray during spring training always looked muddy to me.

As far as I'm concerned if Tampa Bay just started wearing Black pants and helmet all would be fixed...

As a Lightning fan, I wouldn't mind this as long as the current jerseys stayed the same.  The pants paired with the alternate in 2013-14 would be a good starting point.

Apparently Kayvon Thibodeaux is wearing 5 with the Giants. When the number rules were changed it stated .

Defensive Linemen: No change. May wear numbers 50 to 79 and 90 to 99.

I suppose because he is an edge he will be listed as an outside linebacker then? Even though he plays pretty much a regular DE position.

Im pretty certain the Giants run a base 3-4 and Thibodeaux will technically be an OLB.

Tampa is a mystery, because they drafted Kyle Trask last year and sooner or later they need to know if he's the heir apparent to TB12.  But they also brought back first round NFL bust turned backup/journeyman Blaine Gabbert, who was the #2 last year and appeared in blowout games.  If Trask is inactive for all of 2022 as he was in 2021, and TB12 retires again (and this time for good) are they going to go with Gabbert for 2023?

Gabbert is with Tampa and Brady the same reason Jim Sorgi was a career backup with Peyton in Indy.  It's for continuity.

They could try Marlins Park that has a retractable roof if they are concerned about the heat and in the case of Tampa the old Trop where they use to play.

The point is that the Trop is Lightning history, being the former home arena for them.

I was at the game last night too.  First time there, nice building.  Didn't notice the banner thing because they were blocked by the catwalk as we were a few rows from the top.  Looking forward to hitting a few next season.  If I had known I'd have suggested a pregame beverage or two at Cigar City.

Check down the street at Sparkman Wharf.  Lots of good food stalls and bars too.

Seeing this and I'm even more convinced the TV numbers are unnecessary. There's just not enough real estate on those sleeves to justify putting anything there. I'd much rather see a simple black jersey that emphasizes those blue and silver sleeve stripes.

Definitely agree.  We've seen some new uniforms remove TV numbers (Patriots and Rams), so precedence is there.

How about we chalk Mondays game up to the fact that it wasnt supposed to be played that day?  I wont speak for the rest of the weekend, but lets look at the details.

A 200 foot hockey rink would be dwarfed by the massive size of Daytona. The stands at Daytona are like 1/2-3/4 mile long.

I know, and of course I don't think they'd use the seating at the far ends.  Use the area around the start/finish line and place some temporary stands on pit road and you can probably seat around 35-40k.

And good luck finding a bundle, since some of the RSNs (at least here NESN operates this way) are still largely cable-exclusive and won't play ball with the YouTube TV or Hulu With Live type players.

Correct, at least in Florida.  I think the only streaming service that has Bally Sports Sun and Bally Sports Florida is DirecTV stream.

Hell, if they can give Dallas and Nashville a Winter Classic they can give Tampa and Florida a game too.

The ideal time for an outdoor game in Florida would be late January, and even then its a crapshoot.  It could be cold one day, and 70 the next.  The issue with that time on the calendar would be needing to hold the NFL stadiums for potential playoff games.  The only option at that time would be Orlando's Citrus Bowl or Daytona International Speedway.  If they really do want to host a Stadium Series in Florida, Tropicana Field would be the best idea since its the former home of the Lightning.

You couldn't host the Winter Classic in Florida outside of the Daytona Speedway because of college bowl games in almost every outdoor stadium on or around January 1st.

The Rays made that design their full time alternate this year. The light blue jersey with "Rays" has been replaced.

Which may have been a decision based on the situation.  The Rays also have a navy blue alternate that has yet to be seen, so we'll see I guess.
