  1. I live here and dont know what a leatherhead refers to. Leatherback is a type of sea turtle, but no clue what a leatherhead is.
  2. II figured up until yesterday that Tampa would have red somewhere in the logo, but in the end i think they were smart to avoid Buccaneers colors. Overall, they did real well with these identities. I'm a little iffy on Defenders and Guardians on the roster since they kinda sound like the same thing, but the identities represent different themes.
  3. That makes more sense than Houston. The oil industry is bigger in Houston so that them fits best there over Dallas.
  4. Actually all 5 use the variants of the Sikorsky H-60. The Battlehawk was a armored variant of the Army's Blackhawk H-60. Army = Blackhawk Navy = Seahawk Air force = Pave Hawk Coast guard = Jayhawk Marines = White Hawk
  5. If I were to guess...I sense some color shading in the video images, so i tried going that route on a few. Blue and White wing = fighter pilot and plane engine = St Louis Three greens and yellow = swamp and leaves = Tampa Bay (ugh, theyll play in a stadium full or red seats and probably have no red even as an accent) Teal, blue, green, orange = crashing wave and reptile eye = Seattle Red, black, orange = cityscape and fields = Dallas Black and gray = statues = New York Red and white = oil refinery and sparks = Houston Light blue, black, and red = Tattoos and Bikers = Los Angeles Gray, red, white, blue = Marines and Cavaliers = Washington Im not guessing names but this is what Im going with. Lets find out how close I got.
  6. So I screenshotted the images and these were what I saw in order: - a wave - a reptilian eye - gargoyle statue - someone working at a refinery - a city street at night - grassy field - the fan of a plane engine - a fighter pilot flying - a cavalier statue - US Marines - fallen leaves in a forest - a tattoo - a pack or bikers Some of this surely combines ideas into a name, but Washington might be the Marines. Cavalry might be another name, as is something oil industry related (Roughnecks, Wildcatters, etc). Gargoyles is likely there too. Any other suggestions?
  7. If they pull the RKO card and do St Louis Vipers (his hometown)....
  8. First and foremost, I would hate to see the Rays leave town but if the split thing is a possibility..... I had a strange thought earlier, and don't know if logistically it could happen but lets say Montreal gets a team full time. - Relocate either the Rays or the Marlins franchise to Montreal and assign that team to the NL East. - The remaining Florida team splits time in Miami and Tampa Bay. Miami has a new stadium already, which would then require existing ownership to focus on a single venue in Tampa Bay rather than two including one in Montreal. I don't know if a plan like this holds water because you'd have to decide who remains owner of the Florida team, what roster remains with the Florida team (maybe Montreal does some oddball dispersal draft where they choose from the Marlins and Rays rosters but the Florida team can protect a set number of players) but i'd think a split team sharing two cities in one state rather than a thousand miles and two countries could be more feasible....if it ever happens.
  9. Strangely enough, IF a split shared city team had to happen I could be on board with Tampa Bay and Miami sharing.
  10. Back around 2008, there were talks to build a stadium at this site.
  11. To be fair, the Tampa Bay Times is behind a paywall now (as of a few months ago) after a few articles, so alot of locals have given up on their sites unless they're a subscriber already.
  12. If I give Stu Sternberg credit for something, he invests money into the Trop to upgrade the amenities. Since your visit theyve done the folllwoing: - Replaced the turf at least 3 times (twice in the past 2-3 years) and the new surface for 2019 really seems like a good match. - Added LED stadium lighting in 2019, with colored uplighting and better standard lights. - Created a full almost-360 concourse within view of the field, the only blocked section is immediately behind the plate. - Got rid of the batters eye restaurant, and opened up the walls to make it a social space in CF. - New for 2019, the Left Field ledge with 4-top table seating.
  13. Press conference Tuesday the 25th at 1pm eastern about the Rays. Assumingly to clear the air about this Montreal stuff.
  14. If taxes are used, I’d say it’s highly unlikely it’ll be sales tax. There are hotel taxes and other tourist taxes that would likely be targeted. The Buccaneers burned any chance of using sales tax back in the mid 90s
  15. It would HAVE to be a blended split, or one where one team remains primary (probably TB).
  16. This....all this. Players union will hate this type of scenario.
  17. I could see a share like Montreal and San Juan worked in the 2000s, but this will not work full time. I dont want to lose the Rays, and have set my personal expectations that over the next 5-6 years it will only get worse before it gets better. Montreal to the Rays is what Tampa Bay/St Pete was to places like Seattle, San Francisco, and Chicago in the 90s. Its the threat of actual relocation that causes movement.
  18. I knew it was going to be Masters food related, and the pimento cheese sandwich is perfect.
  19. The T in the Rays logo has this same skew. I think its an optical illiusion, but Im not sure
  20. This promotion actually began back in 2018 for one night only and they chose to do it more often in 2019.
  21. I'll post here since this seems to be the thread in general about arena and indoor football news and rumors... The Tampa Bay Storm might return in 2020 as part of the National Arena League. https://primetimesportstalk.com/2019/05/28/tampa-bay-storm-could-return-join-national-arena-league-in-2020/
  22. He is Looey, because of his french-canadian heritage. The US city St. Louis is Loo-is.
  23. I feel like Bandits could be the Tampa Bay name, if they can pry the rights from whomever owns the USFL trademark. Justice could really work for DC, and I've always wanted to see an NY team use Gothams.
  24. I can confirm this is what i've heard as well....NYPenn short season is the likely target but also consider the Sox have Lowell as their affiliate, so Boston would either keep Lowell and let another team affiliate with the Pawtucket team, or Pawsox remain with Boston and the Spinners become another affiliate.
