  1. ... which is why Gilbert Perreault wore #11 with the Sabres.
  2. If that cake was sleeping on its back, it might still be in one piece today. Parenting joke FTW
  3. @Brian in Boston Cake Babies gets shortened to “Babies”; Baby Cakes gets shortened to “Cakes”.
  4. I’d wager money that “Baby Cakes” happened because googling “New Orleans King Cakes” would likely always lead to recipes, news stories, bakeries that will ship them, etc. about the actual cakes even if the baseball team was called “King Cakes” today. Naming them Baby Cakes gets someone to the MiLB shop faster through a search engine. Not that I like it (agree with @B-Rich even though my first time ever in Louisiana will be Saturday), but I bet that’s why it happened.

  6. The Spanish onomatopoeia for a rooster crow is quiquiriqui (kee-kee-reh-kee); it's my favorite onomatopoeia. I absolutely want the El Paso or whoever Quiquiriqui.
  7. If I have a choice between the Moo and the Krunk Wolverines, I'm taking the Moo. Also, your weird classism against onomatopoeia words is of your own invention.
  8. Edit: Yeah, me too. Double edit: seems to be fixed as of this morning
  9. I'm sure they ARE really good... there's just 28 other teams that are better. ?
  10. It's not that. Ad companies can't be bothered to actually check out the ads they're hosting, so sometimes these redirects get through whatever automated filters they have. Well, it's not just that.
  11. Putting your feet up on the seat in front of you is fun.
  12. I don't like the Bucs' numbers, but my biggest problem with their uniforms is the matte pewter yoke right next to the metallic pewter helmet. It really highlights that they are not the same color.
  13. Are there a lot of fork-and-screen movie theaters (where you can eat a full meal at your seat during the movie) out there? The Orlando Downtown Disney/Disney Springs AMC has been like that for a few years, and it seems to be pretty popular. If they're already closed, it seems like an opportune time for construction.
  14. Local radio brought this up, and someone suggested it was to highlight the beginning of the college hockey season. Doesn't seem like something the NHL would do, but neither does having every single team inactive on a Friday night.
  15. Did the arbitrator consider Slava Voynov as a comparable? That's at... 250 games or so, and counting? ?
  16. I thought the same thing, but then I got three border ads (two Charmeds and a Sherwin Williams) in 3-5 minutes.
  17. If we're reopening sports cold cases, shouldn't we really start with Ray Lewis?
  18. He was obsessing over Rounders five or ten years ago when I used to read his stuff at ESPN. I can’t belive he’s still on it. I’ve never seen it, but it can’t be worth the fuss.
  19. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think a single team has missed the playoffs in the five years of this current format that would have made the playoffs under a straight 1-8. The right teams get in, but sometimes the matchups are less than ideal; it's fine.
  20. I really do think it's an interesting idea, but I don't see how it's do-able at all. If you have small divisions, what happens when you have NY, NY, Boston, and... Hartford? Just properly assessing the teams' status would be impossible, and doing anything about it would be more so. The NHL's isn't all that different from baseball and football. The leading teams are guaranteed spots by position in the standings, and the middling teams fight for wild card spots that are awarded by points/wins. Wild card spots are shared between divisions, but not across conferences/leagues. I would prefer 1-8, but this system isn't too bad.
  21. I'm a little confused about your plan. Top two in a division make the playoffs, or only division winners are guaranteed to make it? The current NHL system is hard to explain and that 2-3 matchup in the first round can end a really good team's season early, but I don't think it keeps teams out of the playoffs unfairly. For that to happen, I think the 6th place team in one conference's division would have to be better than the third place team in the other division. I like conferences; I'm not interested in a Vancouver-Florida first round matchup.
