  1. That $2M nonrefundable deposit from Quebec City might be the biggest scam ever pulled. At this point, we just need to hope the Coyotes, Hurricanes, or Panthers go nuclear. The only positive is it's one fewer relocation market the NHL has in its pocket.
  2. I think I saw in a story yesterday that the BoG has never voted against the committee's recommendation on expansion, so that's pretty much it for Seattle.
  3. Looks pretty good. I like the depth the yellow gold gives behind the Capitol. I assume there's some symbolism with the stars on the shanks?
  4. Can't believe they were going to go three very different color schemes in ~11 years. Looks nice, but the logo is still kind of a mess. I think it looks terrible to have that giant blotch of white on the black jersey, for no reason other than "that's how we had to make the patch". But the little heat sink fins also make it hard to outline in the traditional way.
  5. I’m serious about this, but I’m not touting as a fact or anything... I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the widespread smoking back then. Half of all adults smoked, and even people who didn’t smoke were probably getting a cigarette or two secondhand from a young age. We’ve seen how wild drug use can age people today, so it wouldn’t shock me if inhaling smoke your whole life did the same thing back then. Athletes are also surely eating better and exercising more today.
  6. It really is like a bad owner from a movie trying to sabotage the team to move them— they announced they were going into a rebuild when they don’t have their first round pick in next year’s draft!
  7. I've said before that I'm done looking to sports leagues for justice. I'm not mad that the NFL only wanted to suspend Ray Rice for two games; I'm mad that the county let him off with just counseling. I'm not mad that Zach Smith wasn't fired earlier; I'm mad that he was never charged with a crime. On the most recent episode of BASS, the guys talked about how messed up it is that people in a football program run to the coach when they should run to the police. I feel like the public is doing the same thing by focusing on how the NFL/OSU/NHL/NBA is going to respond to something when we should be wondering what police and courts and district attorneys are going to do about it.
  8. Does that $50M include the Vegas expansion check? Or was that one of the years where they "only" lost $30M?
  9. I feel like I remember hearing that the team never turned a profit, even in the America West days... I think hope has fled. It's been over 20 years!
  10. I don't like the idea or the jersey, but I do like to see a team lean this hard into one of their in-game promotions.
  11. It's a lot of detail with eight hands there; I'd rather have a MB patch on the hats and shoulders than having to spell out the whole team name. IMO it's also a little strange because it's not actually the language. Obviously, the hand drawings are used to teach ASL, but ASL speakers would read normal English letters just fine. It's a different situation than the Spokane Indians or various other-languaged crests.
  12. Listening to a TV broadcast could definitely be awkward ("Watch this!"), but I think you can make a product that's suitable for both. It's not as if the TV guys won't also know that they're on the radio now. Rick Jeanneret holds a special place in my heart; I've said multiple times that he IS what hockey sounds like to me, but I just don't feel like he's one-of-a-kind in his ability to walk the line between TV and radio. But again, Rick Jeanneret is my measuring stick.
  13. This is probably an unpopular opinion (and maybe colored by the fact that I'm in one of the simulcast markets), but I don't see why you need a separate radio PBP. I'm actually shocked that 28 out of 31 teams still have a separate radio broadcast in 2018.
  14. I don't know if this company has one, but the ad company for another message board I use has a site where anyone can go to report one of these ads. It would be easier if we could crowdsource reporting these, rather than it being another task but for the mods. Thankfully, I've only seen one redirect ad with this new company; it felt almost like a 50% chance with the old guys.
  15. Insert joke about various bad people being named Time's Man of the Year. People will certainly remember Bettman long after he retires.
  16. Not sure there was a better way to go to achieve this end, but the pullover and the illustration remind me of kids’ summer pajamas.
  17. My favorite was Brendan Shanahan not remembering the names of any of the players who told him they feared for their lives when CTE first came to light. If that's true, then he should probably also be a plaintiff in the CTE lawsuit.
  18. Hidden Valley makes a blue cheese dressing, so I’ll give @CS85 the benefit of the doubt on this one. He’s not a ranch monster.
  19. On the plus side for ESPN, I've noticed that they finally shed go.com from their URL. Now, you can actually go to http://www.espn.com
  20. It was done in-house, so that may be why it doesn’t feel quite like other teams’ stuff. I like the little bits of green. I like the cap logo. Not a fan of the bleu cheese script and numbers (assuming that was what they were going for); I don’t really think of it as a condiment to write with. Overall, though, I think it works. I never thought I would buy one of these food hats, but I could see myself in one of these.
  21. His 229 games with the Indians certainly don’t measure up to his 1,763 games with the Orioles, that’s still 4x as long as his 50 game career with the Dodgers.
