  1. you'd think they'd spell Pederson correctly, but still.
  2. Wasn't it a team policy to not retire numbers, with him getting the honor of being the very first? Pretty sure Joe Green, Bradshaw, Lambert, Woodson, etc also haven't had their numbers retired. It's arguable that it's a dumb policy (especially if they're 100% absolutely never going to issue the number again), but he was technically about to to be the first one to receive what should be considered the ultimate honor a team can bestow upon a player.
  3. eh... sometimes the check-engine can be really bad, but sometimes you just need to tighten the gas cap. I'm really curious what they found - I hope it leaks. As a Phillies fan, I really hope the Mets just overspent for a guy that will only average around 40 games / year, but I'll be really ticked if it's just a gas-cap situation and the Giants simply needed an excuse to back out.
  4. So is “medical issue” just a cover-up, or is it legit? And if so, aren’t the Mets taking the risk that the Giants weren’t willing to? Seems like either the Giants got cold feet, Correa changed his mind, or the Mets are dumb.
  5. That's not correct. They used a local designer, who, according to his LinkedIn, hasn't been affiliated with Nike for more than 3 years. https://www.linkedin.com/in/matthew-wolff-31117840/ https://twitter.com/wolffmatt "The Twins turned to Minneapolis-raised designer Matthew Wolff for their new look" https://news.sportslogos.net/2022/11/18/minnesota-twins-unveil-new-uniforms-a-modern-look-inspired-by-the-past/baseball/
  6. You'd have fewer annoying "hack a Shaq" / "hack a Ben" moments that draw out games forever if teams got to designate who got to shoot. Right now, other than fouling out, there's no reason not to have your scrub players hack anyone that's not a good FT shooter but will make an easy lay-up or even dunk. That said, soccer PKs are dumb, and using them to decide championships is absurd.
  7. It's unlikely that they'd lose to the Saints - especially with the extra motivation of helping their own draft status out with a victory in New Orleans. Minshew sucks, but he could win a few games before realizing what he is. With the right gameplan, some lousy Cowboys coaching, and Dak remaining an interception machine, it's not out of the question that he can beat Dallas - though that's not the likely outcome. They won't be able to neutralize Parsons like they did in the first game - he's certainly going to eat on Saturday. Hurts threw this ball after his injury - so my hunch is that if the 1-seed was on the line, he'd be able to gut it out and play. But with the prospect of giving him 4 weeks to heal (and then another week before the SB) it doesn't make a lot of sense to push it.
  8. After the game, each referee has to spend 3 minutes in a steel cage with anyone that they've wronged. That'll up the level of officiating really quickly. Dallas Goedert fumbles a ball and misses half the season because the ref didn't call a blatant facemask that he had a perfect angle on? As soon as Goedert is healthy, he gets 3 minutes in a cage with the ref. Or, if in Goedert's case, the play results in a serious injury, the team can substitute its gorilla for the injured player (though in such cases, the gorilla would only get 1 minute in the cage with the referee.)
  9. That could have the opposite effect of making them try to be stars... but if the actual players that they screwed are allowed to be in the audience, and throw weapons at them during the press conference, I'm all for it.
  10. Lookin' like Gardner Minshew will lead the Eagles for the rest of the regular season.
  11. Uh Oh... also... Jalen Hurts' MVP odds plummeted within the last 30 mins. Something happened to Hurts
  12. The TV networks are likely the ones driving it. I can't believe that some of what we see is simple "human error". It's so consistently baffling year-in and year-out that there's obviously no desire to fix it - which implies that the league doesn't feel it's broken. As for "the margin of victory" nonsense, if team A drives down the field to the 1 yard line and fumbles it 5 times, they theoretically cost themselves 35 points. But, if they find themselves in position to win the game 7-6 by scoring a last-second TD which is called back because of some phantom call, the margin of victory was ABSOLUTELY "refereeing incompetence". Those other missed opportunities are meaningless. It's the same chest-thumping tough-guy attitude that people have when teams are screwed out of the playoffs because of nonsense calls - "well, if they wanted to make the playoffs, they should have gone 17-0 and won their division, so they didn't want it enough." That's not how it works. We want to know that what we're watching is on the level, and that the best teams are winning fair competitions. And too often, that's simply not what we're seeing. Make the referees explain each controversial call after the game, and make them watch the replays in front of the media and then admit if they got it right or not. Hold them accountable some way.
  13. Could not disagree any more. Even if you said 2+2=5, I still could not disagree more. The goal is to beat the other team, not to account for referees that either purposely hose you, or are simply incompetent. The goalposts can't move (pardon the pun). Saying "you should have been up by 3 in order to win y 1" doesn't make any sense. How should a coach call plays? "Well, we're going to need to pad ourselves in case a crooked ref or crooked league takes a few TDs off the board, so let's take risks even though it's a close game"? Missed XPs happen - but if you still play well enough to outscore the other team, then you should win. *I didn't see any games this weekend or the past 3, but saw the highlights of the McLaurin thing this morning and heard his interview, and man - that's rough.
  14. so about that… Jordan Davis was activated from IR earlier than expected and should play this weekend. Not sure how much, or if it’ll matter, but it can’t hurt.
  15. Do away with the inner stripes and have the bird head go the whole way in. I'm not sure how that could work from a production standpoint, but that's not my problem.
  16. Apparently, this is what MassMutual's CEO Roger Crandall said about the partnership with the Red Sox. If this is true... oh boy. Also, this confirms that the ad placement will go on either right or left sleeve, which makes me wonder if this is the end of sleeve numbers for the Phillies. I don't love them, but they've had them for 30+ years now, so they should not be forced to move them just for some stupid ad.
  17. "Laterally" means that they'd be on the LOS, not 5-yards beyond it. Is the rule 5 yards? I thought it was much tighter - like one or two. It gets called against the Eagles all the time since they do options and have a QB that starts to run then stops and throws (but the linemen are already engaging the linebackers because they think he's running.) I've also seen it called when a lineman is engaged with his guy, his guy falls, and the lineman's momentum takes him forward a yard or two (even though he doesn't touch anyone or impact the play.) It's kinda dumb for there to be I think if they're not engaging anyone that's not moving towards them, it shouldn't be a big deal. For example - if a lineman knocks his guy down and goes after a linebacker that's not blitzing and is either spying or covering a RB, then that would be a foul. But if he goes down field a few yards and just stands there, then I don't see the big deal unless he ends up setting a pick by accident. We're only talking about a couple of yards, not faking like they're running a pattern.
  18. im going to disagree with this. Not that I have a problem with the rule, but I feel like every time it actually comes into play, there’s always people - whether the announcers, or (usually) fans of the team that it went against, who bring it up and question it. I’d assume that if there was a referendum among NFL fans, changing it would win. that said, yeah - the end zone is different and I don’t have an issue with different rules, even though something like that that’s so game changing seems like a pretty harsh penalty. I don’t think it’s comparable to a safety, since you can’t snap the ball from within your own end zone so it needs to be a turnover, whereas a fumble can’t be advanced, so there’s an argument to be made for simply returning the ball to the spot of the fumble.
  19. as long as I’m not banned if the eagles pull it out.
  20. its the picks thread and I’m helping people make their picks. Or is this just for picks only and discussion goes I’m the other thread? I don’t frequent this thread, just thought it was relevant. Feel free to move the post, or I cam edit it out.
  21. The woman yelling at :07 Also, no wonder the crowd was all over the Packers for faking injuries. This one is absurd, but the others were likely similar. Stuff like this should be a delay-of-game penalty.
