  1. He's in based on longevity as both a player and manager, even if he's not really a HOFer in either one. While reading some about him on Wikipedia right now, I saw that he said that he prefers Black and Latino players for hot games, and that white players handle cold better. In 2003. I'd like to see the science that supports that.
  2. Looks almost as good as the LVII will look on the Eagles jersey.
  3. And if the Blue Meanie is singin' it, it can't be all bad:
  4. The bullpen is waaaaay too shaky. They have only one lefty reliever that can be trusted, and he can really only go one inning. They have a couple guys that are (usually) great, but a lot that are simply awful. This is not the pitching staff that your typical pennant winner has. I was there tonight and it was kinda sad that so many people sulked when they brought David Robertson in, because we knew he'd blow it. Thank god their new manager had the wherewithal to get Friday's starter warming up just in case. It's a small sample size, but Rob Thompson is the best Phillies manager i've seen in my lifetime. Literally every questionable decision he's made (or not made) since he took over has paid off. So the story with that is kinda funny. After they clinched against the Cardinals, the NBC SportsNet cameras were filming them celebrating in the clubhouse and that song just happened to come up on the playlist. It's one of >100 songs on the playlist, but it's the one that everyone just happened to hear, so it became the "fan's anthem". I gotta say that I thought it was corny at first, but it's so goddam fun singing it with everyone in the stadium, listening to it blast from everyone's cars after the game, hear random groups of people singing it on the streets (including mine), etc. It's really fun. I also think it's fun that this version is sung from the POV of a gay man. I think it's great that the song has been adopted by a sports team and fan base. Also, this from Friday night (go into the actual tweet and play them both, but the one on the right has your song. For some reason only one clip is embedded here.)
  5. Eagles were apparently pretty aggressive in trying to acquire him, though they’ll obviously never confirm that. Really glad that they got to keep Hurts and all their #1 picks. That’s one of those signings that could set your franchise back for years if it blows up.
  6. Haha they’re seriously greasing the poles in some parts of the city right now just in case.
  7. I haven't watched much Yankees/Astros, but I doubt it's been as sloppy as the Phillies/Padres series. Lots of defensive miscues and baserunning snafus. If I was watching this series without any context, I'd question how these teams made it this far. It's been frustrating because every time the Padres hit the ball I'm holding my breath that a Phillie doesn't kick it, drop it, or forget which base to throw it to. Padres defense is exponentially better, but even they (*cough* Soto) have butchered a few plays.
  8. That wasn't a Steve Austin "beer chug" where 90% of it ends up on his face or on the ground. He didn't spill a drop. That's impressive. I don't know how it's coming across on TV, but the park is louder than I heard it even from '07-'11. I go home and my ears are ringing like I've been to a concert.
  9. You're being very generous here. This one could have gotten the "What The ", or even the Foghorn Leghorn "What The... I Say What the ing ?"
  10. ^ that's actually a cool jersey IMO... except for the SEC, T, and Nike logos soiling the area above the number. And then whatever is up on the shoulder. Looks ridiculous.
  11. That's exactly my thought as well. I bet if you looked at the date of those photos, while there's probably a little overlap, the majority of no-shield ones were early in the year, and the majority of shield ones were either playoffs or later in the year. EDIT: Actually, upon further review, it looks like some of the no-shield photos are from the Super Bowl, which makes little sense unless those guys just kept their early-season jerseys and the league didn't care because that was right around the time when Proline was starting and consistency wasn't the top priority. Or... who the hell knows. Also - never realized how different Deion's font was from the rest of the numbers. Stuff was weird back then.
  12. Goes from wearing one of the all time classic uniform sets in one of the most picturesque parks in one of the greatest places to live in the country to wearing mix-and-match softball uniforms and working in a Costco.
  13. So many of these are excellent. I'm shocked by how many I actually love. A few are total stinkers, but definitely the minority. Regarding the Flyers, I really wish they didn't add the outline to the crest. Growing up, that outline was a sure-fire sign of a replica jersey vs authentic (and pretty much nobody had an authentic back then because of the whopping $60 price tag and that only one retailer was allowed to sell them.) I recall getting a replica jersey as a 10 year old, and my uni-obsession caused me to get a pair of scissors and try to trim off the black outline. It didn't end well. I still have that little jersey somewhere...
  14. Hopefully they've booked their hotel in Philadelphia already. I assume they're going fast. EDIT: The Presumptive 2022 NFC Champion Philadelphia Eagles currently hold the #4 overall pick in the 2023 draft (and likely the 32nd pick, but 31st at worst.)
  15. I'm shocked at how good PGH vs TB looked. On paper, I'd never expect it to look that good based on the Bucs dark helmets and dark pants vs the black helmets and jerseys of Pittsburgh. I guess the daylight helped. That might have been my #1. I can't get behind red helmets / black jerseys for Atlanta. The opposite is fine, but the red helmets stick out like a sore thumb to me in a way that the black helmets don't. Bills v Chiefs would look much better if Bills had blue pants. Otherwise, it's basically just Chiefs vs any team that's white from head to toe - regardless of it's Bills or any other team. Can't argue with the worst list, though I may flip the bottom two. I'm a fan of the Seahawks uniform, but combined with Arizona's train wreck, that's a horrible-looking game.
  16. I suppose that makes sense (assuming because MNF means that it's still the previous week) but it does seem to run counter to the league's bogus claims on caring about player safety. I guess the NFLPA (who let's be honest - also doesn't care about player safety) could argue that he's being deprived of a full 17 game season and therefore a fair shot at any incentives he may have. But honestly, they (the NFL and the NFLPA) either care about safety or they don't. It's pretty clear that they don't.
  17. So basically you want the Falcons to adopt that red-flake helmet and go back to red tops, because they're the only team that should have black helmets and red tops.
  18. Yeah basically my experience. Oh well. At least the Eagles game will be simulcasted. I don't need this game in my life, but I enjoy watching NO lose since the Eagles get their 1st round pick next year because they're the dumbest bunch of dummies that ever made dumb trades.
  19. Robbie Anderson is playing? I thought he couldn't play because of being traded so soon to the game. That doesn't seem too safe, especially since his helmet is not broken in (assuming they're still saying that's important.)
  20. Weird. I had a lot of trouble the first week (but it seems like that was normal for that week) but, while I haven't watched too much each week, haven't had any other issues till tonight. Knock on wood, seems to be stable now, but had to restart 6 times. I think I'm watching on a 5 minute delay now, which might also be helping with buffering. EDIT: Guess I didn't knock on enough wood. This is awful.
  21. Anyone else having a hell of a time trying to watch this game? My internet speed on 5GHz is around 500MBs, and I can stream other channels and see in my router app that my TV is downloading fast. It looks like whatever issue is on Amazon's end. I figure I can't be the only one... right?
  22. Disagree on the Jaguars because their teal is so light that it actually emphasis the yoga-pants look, as opposed to the Ravens where the whole uniform is dark. I do like teal over black for the Jags, but not with black socks. Or, at least not solid full-length black. I have to also disagree with your proposal for a new "rule of thumb", at least as it is applied to teams with with the same color shell and facemask. I dislike the Bills with solid white socks, and any of the gray-masked teams wouldn't look good. My "rule of thumb" is that the socks shouldn't match the pants, with the exception of the Ravens when they go purple over black. It's an admittedly imperfect rule.
  23. While it would look better with purple socks, the Ravens are the only team that I don't mind going with the solid-black look from waist to toe. I can't explain why, but I think it's fine for them (and them only.) The purple over black is also my favorite look for them. They really don't even need white pants.
  24. Never seen team NOB, even in practice jerseys. Is McLaurin now a racial slur and had to change his name to Terry Commanders?
  25. OMG please bring on the robo umps immediately. When even a pitcher is laughing out loud at the calls he's getting, there's a problem. To hell with purists that think that a game needs rules, but that it's perfectly fine for them to be subjective at best, but mostly arbitrary. Home plate umpiring in baseball isn't much different than throwing a roughing-the-QB flag in the NFL. It costs teams drives and possibly games, and is at times completely subject to the whims of the person throwing the flag or calling the strike.
