  1. In a matter of 2 days, the Phillies reverted to their pre-June selves. Home field advantage (though it's basically their home field in AZ) might be the only thing that bails these turds out. Castellanos is back to the free-swinging 2022 version instead of a disciplined guy who had 106 RBI and back-to-back multi-hr games in the playoffs. Even Harper has been weak lately, and if Craig Kimbrell was a horse, he'd have been put down last night - let alone tonight. He should leave his boot on the mound and retire mid game. But their our boys and we love them so I'll be on my feet cheering for them and giving them the encouragement they need to play above a Babe-Ruth-league level.
  2. This umpiring is embarrassing. The league should be embarrassed. On both sides, but the timing of the ridiculous calls matters. Game changing. This a hole's strike zone is 5 feet wide... sometimes. Other times it's 6".
  3. If you slide into first, you should lose the ability to go past the base. It should be treated just like any other base.
  4. If the Stars had a deal to play somewhere, it wouldn't be a secret. With all the bookings and interest in all the suitable venues, that would be either leaked or officially announced (to nobody that cares) pretty quickly. Subaru would be a disaster. Franklin field would work great, but lots of potential scheduling conflicts. Villanova would suck. Easy to get there via rail, but are people really gonna do that for minor league? It'd just be a suburban crowd... and only from one suburb. The Linc would also be a disaster, plus they wouldn't be able to afford it.
  5. Why does this market even have a team? Maybe spring training places don't need big-league teams. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/38696365/nlcs-game-3-ticket-costs-plummet-diamondbacks-fans As of Thursday morning, StubHub has "entry" tickets -- or get-in-the-door prices -- for $17 at Chase Field. TickPick had tickets available for as low as $15. As a comparison, single standing room tickets for Game 2 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia went for more than $450 for the Phillies' victory Tuesday night.
  6. By 2023 standards, that's a classic look! It was definitely the worst in its time, but it's been surpassed a dozen time since.
  7. This guy was AWFUL yesterday, even the national announcers were laughing at how bad some calls were. He was equally awful on both sides, so can’t blame that on the outcome (though some bad calls are more impactful than others depending on where they happen), but how the hell does a clown like this get a playoff series? And how can anyone not support some kind of automation? Or a replay system that shows the overhead view to see how outside or inside it is, and a side view to see the height? Should be a quick and easy thing to do, and not be impacted by ball movement. Check swings should also be reviewable.
  8. They definitely dont need it, but it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Once they went with the all white, the door was opened for black pants.
  9. If/when Nike can figure out a way to make shiny fabric that is as light and wicking as the flat version, the Bucs would look perfect again. I have no idea what the true performance benefits of the flat fabric are, but I guess it'd contradict their own marketing if they started making shiny again. Hell - maybe the shiny is why the Cowboys continuously give us LOL moments in the playoffs.
  10. I really hope not, because I'd have to either cancel my halloween party or sell my nosebleed game-2 seats. If it's TX-PHL then game 2 would be on the road (of course, half the people coming to the party would probably go to TX, but that's an issue for another day.) It's all moot if Topper keeps Bohm in the cleanup spot and continues to call Kimberly's number.
  11. Two of my friends booked flights from PHL to PHX on Frontier for around $300 each, tickets for around $50 (because they don't even sell out, lol) and an airBnB, and it was cheaper than getting into a game here. I don't understand how baseball can survive in places where there's so little interest that road team fans can take over, and tickets are that easy to come by. Hell - I have 400-level tickets with a face of $130 (for NLCS) that if I was a scumbag I could easily have sold for $600 - and that's as high in the stadium as it gets. Even STH couldn't get all of the games, and were entered in a lottery. But in Atlanta, you can just walk up to the box office. In Tampa, they can't give them away for free outside of the stadium. In Phoenix, entire sections are road fans - in the freaking championship series. I'm not saying it's great for a place to be so sports obsessed. It tends to bring out the worst in people (though now, in mid-west Philly, it's been different), and as a fan, I'd like to be able to get a ticket for $50 whenever I want to vs having to spend $1k or enter a random lottery. But looking at it from outside eyes, I wonder how the hell anyone thinks the sport can survive in places like that, and why any player other than soft guys would choose that environment (all other things being equal.) That being said, if I had the chance to address Craig Kimbrell right now after yet another dismal outing, I'd say - "don't worry about blowing our chance to sweep because there's 50 things flawed with your game - dust yourself off and get them next time. You've had a hell of a career and you've proven you can do this. Keep your head up, know that we've got your back, and we'll support you unconditionally. You're family, and family sticks together. Go out there and know that we're with you."
  12. Dickety >Aught As in: 19 dickety 2. 2000 dickety 8.
  13. I've never heard of him, but it's probably a better move than the Eagles signing Julio Jones. Can't imagine he has anything left in the tank.
  14. The browns with there whole “the contrast stitching represents the hard working people of Cleveland” jerkoff bullscat have entered the chat. * the brown remains unchanged.
  15. Seriously. I wonder how many fathers were dadsplaining to their sons last week "oh man, I remember when they wore these orange jerseys all the time! Those orange tops were all I ever knew before they switched to red."
  16. They're not even a competitive ballclub. Things can change once they get back into their quiet warehouse, but they're not winning a game in this stadium. Even if they take all three in their place, they're not going to be able to win a game here. I was definitely not looking past them, but it's really hard not to at this point. At least tonight's starter was better than last night's, who couldn't handle 46,000 chanting his name, like they do for every starter. And he was from here! EDIT: Why does MLB hate their fans? Thursday's game is 2:00 local time? Half of my friend group will be there since it was cheaper to fly Frontier and buy a ticket than to go to a game here, but I imagine for anyone local that blows. It blows for us just to watch it while either in rush hour or on transit after work, but for AZ locals to have to use PTO just to go to a game in the penultimate series of the year is just not fair.
  17. ironically, they wore WAH the majority of the time. White was basically their home jersey. They wore white 6 of 8 home games in '95, and all 8 games in '96.
  18. Dave Dombrowski has literally said that they build the team to win series’, and manage the team in the regular season with that in mind (and if they happen to win a division then that’s cool, but not their goal). obviously non-local fans don’t watch too many regular-season Phillies games, but if you pick a sample of June, July, August, and September games, you’ll see some of the tinkering and experiments that lead to the way the postseason roster is constructed and how games are managed.* *not that everyone doesn’t manage a little differently in the playoffs, I just think the lineups, roster management, and pitching management is dramatically different with this team. TL;DR they are better at playoff baseball, and it’s by design. The crowd helps a little bit too.
  19. There's a member that was in the equipment business and explained the whole blue-colored helmet thing in great detail at some point. Can't recall the username.
  20. I said in this very thread that anyone picking the game should go with the Jets. They're coached very well (at least they were today), Wilson didn't let getting beaten up get to him, the Eagles don't have the depth to overcome missing 3 star players, and the Jets defense changed something after the first quarter that the Eagles just couldn't solve (the fact that their new OC is proving to be an idiot doesn't help.) Good clean win by the Jets.
  21. The Jets green jerseys are closer to what the Eagles wore in the '80s-'95 than the Eagles new throwbacks are. Coulda just used that fabric and saved people lots of headaches.
