  1. While we all fall into the trap, it’s better to not even engage with that particular troll.
  2. Jalen Hurts got tacked by his slob shirt today, and it cost them a 1st down. The announcers made mention about how his t-shirt held him back. That trend is far more egregious than white socks.
  3. Eagles gonna get got real soon. Defense can't bail them out every time the offense has it's head up its collective ass. Hurts may have regressed, but it's hard to tell due to the play calling. Not sure how you fix that. It's like the rich complaining about not being wealthy, but I've never felt worse about a 3-0 team.
  4. The Eagles new OC is in way over his head. I get that he's got a long relationship with Hurts and was his QB coach last year, but for calling plays he's just overmatched. The Eagles are going to lose games this season because of him, and right now they don't have many better options other than Siriani calling plays, which didn't go well the last time he did. I hope Shane Steichen fails in Indie. Not because I dislike him, but quite the opposite. I hope he fails so maybe he'll come back. EDIT: Just when you think it can't get worse. Why run when it's working? Why design plays that don't have 6 guys covering the tight end? This team is F'd. Arguably the most talented roster in the league, but should be 0-2 and may be lucky to win 10 games if this dope can't figure out how to call a game. EDIT: Complete embarrassment. At least the announcers had the guts to point out the play calling.
  5. Due to the puny size of their park, that's more than a 10% increase. Even their fast start doesn't account for that (and there's no way McCutchen does.) If that stat is accurate, I'm at a loss, even with the new fan-friendly rules.
  6. I have no idea if his claims are accurate or not, but I think the changes that have been put into place would make the game more attractive to younger people with shorter attention spans and less of a desire to sit in the same place for 4+ hours. 1. More WC teams makes more games meaningful even late in the season. In the NL, there's still seven teams alive (even if only mathematically) in the final week of the season. Given the Phillies have a large lead for the 3rd spot, there's 6 teams that would otherwise have been playing meaningless games for weeks. 2. Pitch clock speeds up games and reduces dead time, so even with a short attention span, you're still seeing lots more action than before. 3. Ghost runner (probalby the most controversial thing) seems to me like it would contribute to an overall reduction in time of games that go extras, but I don't have the stats to bac that up. Personally, I love that they typically go only one or two extra innings, and every pitch is critical, and the strategic decisions are interesting. I love it. There's certainly things that aren't great, but for all the hate Manfred gets, it seems to me that they're taking more steps to attract younger fans than they ever have before. There's still room to tweak what they've done, and maybe do more, but they're off to a good start. Now let's just hope that the WS doesn't end on a pitch-clock violation!
  7. That's valid, On the other hand, I'd imagine that's a ton of pressure for even the most mature of young kids. Debuting against a joke team like the Mets is one thing. Next they play Pittsburgh, then the joke Mets again. The playoffs will be a different story. We'll see how it goes!
  8. I can't even imagine that. Baseball is funny. Speaking for the Phillies (and I assume it's the same everywhere), you've got your top "blue chip" prospects that every fan has heard of and are the first people fans say should be brought up when some scrub retread on the active roster is sucking. But they tend to get called up (if even at all) way later than other guys, even though they're doing well in the minors. The Phillies have three good pitching prospects that have been talked about being called up for 2 seasons now - and while one was slated to start with the big club (at 19, before needing TJ surgery) the others stayed in the minors all year. Then during the year, a few other guys that were on nobody's radar get called up, including Johan Rojas, who's earned a regular starting job on a playoff team, and Kerkering - who despite his silly minor-league stats, was unknown to 90% of fans who don't follow Clearwater or Jersey Shore (and even most fans of Reading and Lehigh didn't have him on their short list of callups). It's just weird how teams call up guys that are legitimately surprised to get the call over guys who appear more ready and are obvious choices.
  9. Phillies called a guy up that wasn't even on their 40-man. He's making his major-league debut right now on September 24th, and is likely to be put on the playoff roster. That's insane. I didn't even know that was legal. Guy played at 5 levels of minor-league baseball this year (A, high A,, AA, AAA - his only year of MiLB), and starts off his major-league career with 6 straight sliders. Had never even heard of this guy (Orion Kerkering) until the other day, but he's surpassed all of their other top prospects in less than a year. 1-2-3 inning for his debut.
  10. The lack of sock uniformity in MLB may even be worse than NFL. At least in the NFL, the non-uniformity is still within the team's color scheme. This is ridiculous. Can you imagine Patrick Mahomes wearing blue Royals socks? EDIT: the shoes too!
  11. Let's be clear here - you're criticizing the Cardinals for not letting Dallas win? In week 3?
  12. They lost Deion Sanders and Ricky Watters, and Steve Young was injured on-and-off. Ended up rebounding and finishing 11-5. According to Wiki, they were 14-point favorites. In one of the biggest upsets of the year, the injury-depleted 49ers thrashed the Cowboys 38–20. Coming into this game, the Cowboys were the NFL's best team, with an 8–1 record. The 49ers, on the other hand, were sitting at 5–4 coming off disappointing losses to New Orleans and the expansion Panthers by a combined score of 24–14. Steve Young was out with injury and Elvis Grbac was the 49ers' starting quarterback, but he had consistently struggled, completing 55 passes for 570 yards but with four INTs. As a result, the Cowboys were 14-point favorites coming in. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1995_San_Francisco_49ers_season
  13. Someone explain to me how rankings work. Ohio State was 6, Notre Dame was 9. Shouldn't the expected outcome be a tight OSU win? I get that it's 100% subjective and the "eyeball test" is what matters, and what the teams ranked above and below you do matters too, but should Notre Dame really lose two spots when if anything, they showed that they're right there with the (now) #5 team? It seems like maybe the relative rankings were spot on, the expected outcome happened, yet the gap in rankings widens.
  14. Yeah, I'd cut the guy a break. The tropical storm rain in NY, PHL, and I assume most of the coast has been downright awful. I was shocked it let up enough for the Phillies to play yesterday... though the wind was causing outfielders to miss balls right and left. The league has already moved back today's game from 1:35 to 6:05, but I can't imagine it'll be played (which could potentially result in a weird double-header in New York next weekend where the Phillies are "home" for one game).
  15. Now close your eyes, and imagine Prime saying the same thing with the same tone.
  16. I do But besides that, he's trying something different (for someone that doesn't look like Chip Kelly) and instead of trying to teach a team to be humble and measured, to have confidence in themselves, expect to win, know they're talented, and not hide it. It's different, and some people are afraid of things that are different. He said this after the game - "our confidence offends their insecurity." He's not wrong.
  17. Elite company... the difference is he's batting .198 (and leadoff).
  18. The Eagles have been around since 1933. That's 91 seasons (counting the current one.) Out of the players with the most games played for the team, three of the top 10 are on the current team, including one who should set the all-time franchise record. In the free-agency / salary-cap era, that's pretty amazing.
  19. It wasn't clear, but I'll agree with you that as a fan, it's fun to think about. And much like the WC in baseball gives more people a reason to care deeper into the season, the potential of relegation could do the same for fans that would otherwise have no reason to stay invested that long. I can't think of any scenario in which it's practical in North American sports, but yeah it's one of those fun "what if" kinds of things.
  20. You're not a scholarship athlete with pro aspirations. Or maybe you are - in which case, shouldn't you be at practice?
