Alabama Softball helmets

Just to pile on . . . I watched several games in the Softball World Series this year. Thank the Lord for tivo so can you speed up the game. They need to move the pitcher's rubber back to give the hitters a chance.

Anyway, it appeared that UCLA wears a white stirrup over white socks. What is the point of that? Thankfully, I didn't notice any of the players adopting the long pants in vogue in MLB. Of course, some of the teams didn't always wear pants. None wore hats. Sorry, just my two cents.

Alabama doesn't wear shorts. They made the choice to wear pants. They had more speed this yr so there would be a lot more sliding. Here are more pics...

several girls I knew were softball players (and uniform wise, my school's team usually looks as much like a baseball team as possible, sans hats). I know one thing, I like watching softball, I know I would strike out against Finch or Osterman or the like, but I agree that the advantage is obscenely tilted towards great pitching...it's at teh point where a perfect game almost loses its meaning, never mind a no-hitter.

I know I couldn't hit the pitchers I saw in the College softball world series, and I'm not saying they are not good atheletes. Frankly, the defense I saw was rock solid, except for pitchers throwing to first, but apparently it becomes a foreign motion after throwing 150 pitches underhand. A sidebar, I had a DIII softball outfielder on my coed team, we put her at short, and she was BY FAR, the most solid fielder in the league, male or female. So, I appreciate that they have the fundamentals down. BUT, they gotta move the rubber back to give the batters a chance. Right now, it is kind of like soccer, where you expect a very low scoring game.

Now, back to the uniforms . . . The Alabama helmets appear designed with that color scheme.

Schutt makes most women's softball helmets and that is prominent design in softball. I believe team USA also a similiar scheme.

i have heard the argument that you will feel very different about women's sports when you have a little girl.

I don't, but I can imagine I would be dragging myself down the the softball park at the drop of a hat if I had a child playing...heck i might even try to coach.

Ok...sorry I respect women's sports and all.  There are many sports where the game is played well and is somewhat entertaining.  Soccer comes to mind right away.  But softball is just a joke.  The chants, the uniforms, the strikeouts all the time, the fences (190 feet??? are you kidding??), and the generally all around bad play.  I was watching this feature on some pitcher from UCLA...she literally CAN NOT throw to first base.  I'm not talking chuck knobloch style...I mean the ball goes 5 feet if she throws overhand. 

And the sad thing is all across america, there are girls teams that honestly believe they can beat the guys baseball team in a game of softball.

Anyway...those helmets suck.

Spoken like a true gentleman. I come to this board for the obvious reasons... But to my surprise, I stumble upon a flamer post from someone who is SO KNOWLEDGEABLE about Womens/Girls Softball.

It's fine if you don't like the sport. It's even ok if you think that it's easy. It's not cool to make light of the abilities of these young ladies. If you haven't walked a mile in their shoes, then you really wouldn't know what they go through to play the game.

Sounds like someone has a little _ _ _ _ _ ENVY. Fill in the blanks.

This is a great board, but junk like this makes it just like any other trashfest.

OK i agree that trashing a sport isnt cool but pcgd does point out that there is a huge misconception that a lot of girls think that they can beat guys in a game, wether it be baseball or softball. And im not saying this because im some piglike "guys are better than chicks" jerk, but im saying it because ive seen this true. Where i live there used to be an end of the year girls league vs boys league baseball game then the next day softball game, pretty much the stars of the leagues, all leagues from little league up to high school. It was around for about ten years and they had to cancel it because it always got out of control. I think in the ten years it was around the closest game was still more than 15 runs apart. They eventually cancelled it when the softball teams refused to play because they felt it made them look bad, which it did. Maybee this is just concidence, and we just have plopty softball playersbbut i dont think thats it considering they win state every other year. But hey, most softball players still make baseball players look like little wimps
