Suigi
Yet another "soon to be retired has been" goin to the Leafs. What are you TALKING about?!O'Neill is 29, he ain't retiring any time soon.So, he had one bad year. Keep in mind he's been spending his career with one of the most consistently crappy franchises in Hartford/Carolina.Here's O'Neill's stats.Jeff O'NeillCenterBorn Feb 23 1976 -- King City, ONT Height 6.01 -- Weight 190 -- Shoots RSelected by Hartford Whalers round 1 #5 overall 1994 NHL Entry Draft --- Regular Season --- ---- Playoffs ----Season Team Lge GP G A Pts PIM GP G A Pts PIM--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------1995-96 Hartford Whalers NHL 65 8 19 27 40 -- -- -- -- --1996-97 Hartford Whalers NHL 72 14 16 30 40 -- -- -- -- --1997-98 Carolina Hurricanes NHL 74 19 20 39 67 -- -- -- -- --1998-99 Carolina Hurricanes NHL 75 16 15 31 66 6 0 1 1 01999-00 Carolina Hurricanes NHL 80 25 38 63 72 -- -- -- -- --2000-01 Carolina Hurricanes NHL 82 41 26 67 106 6 1 2 3 102001-02 Carolina Hurricanes NHL 76 31 33 64 63 22 8 5 13 272002-03 Carolina Hurricanes NHL 82 30 31 61 38 -- -- -- -- --2003-04 Carolina Hurricanes NHL 67 14 20 34 60 -- -- -- -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NHL Totals 673 198 218 416 552 34 9 8 17 37 Super Wario Comix!Iron Crossover IX Contender (Tied for 6th)Iron Crossover Halloween Contender (Tied for Bronze)
ROCHitman
Yeah, I know his stats and age.My point was he's like most others and going to T.O . is a career death wish.Doesn't he know he won't win a Cup now?? VitaminD
Nice move, Leafs.Keeping in mind he's 29, as long as he heals fully, he's gonna be a great addition. Being closer to home after losing his brother won't hurt either.I wish him well... I got to meet him last year and share a beer - he was at RBC Center in Raleigh (after his operation; the 'Canes were out of town) during the NCAA ('04) 1st/2nd round games. He was a great guy to hang out with, real down to earth and friendly. Hockey needs guys like him now that they are trying to resurrect the league. "Start spreading the news... They're leavin' today... Won't get to be a part of it... In old New York..."In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17. As if he would win one with the 'Canes? And if Gary Roberts gets re-signed, O'Neill can be his wingman.Keep in mind the two were teammates in Carolina during O'Neill's best season. OMMF
Being closer to home after losing his brother won't hurt either. And that was the whole reason for the deal. Classy move by the 'Canes to make it happen.

HatCityEnforcer
Good pickup for the Leafs....O'Neill's a talent when healthy and when paired up with some good linemates, he can produce.Nice enough guy too...ran into him and the entire Canes roster in '04 over in Greektown after a game with the Wings...was a thrill to meet up with a few of the Canes that had played in Hartford as well (never wished the players ill will, just the scumbag that signed their checks).
