My idea for NHL franchise shuffling

What gets me is that the Nashville market was never clamoring for an NHL franchise to begin with. The attendance is right around what I thought the area would support. And now they're shocked? Someone didn't do their due diligence in the area. It's football and nascar country. Period.

Nashville is a market I've always wondered about. I can understand that you want to expand your market area, but you would think you'd move into an area with some interest already instead of into a market that (from what I saw) had none. I had thought that they had gotten their attendance to a steady level

Problem with Portland is that Allen controls the arena and wants nothing to do with the NHL. The league pissed him off during the last round of expansion.

And now he's trying to unload the arena and his basketball team. I guess Portland's out. A damn shame, though. Would be better for the league than nondescript markets in the dustbowl like KC and OKC.

I made this in response to listening to a podcast of primetime sports. I am sorry if I made it seem like anything was for sure but the NHL is overdue for a change and the people building the rink in KC are not stupid and have dealt with the NHL before. Anyway I am willing to bet that in the next five years there will be 3-5 changes with teams either moving or new teams coming in. I dont know what teams would move but the ones I named in the first post were just ones that could. In the end maybe nothing will happen but I am willing to bet something will.

It's not the dust bowl, bust out an atlas.

I'm noty saying you have to like KC or agree to want a team there. But don't make ignorant comments like that.

Excuse me, TOILET bowl would be more apt.

Preds, crappy attendance or not, have a sparkling new arena. That's all that matters.

And what's the name of the stadium again? The GAYLORD Entertainment Centre. I know it's old, but when they announce where the came is being broadcast from it is difficult not to laugh, lol B)

...and I assume your relationship with the city of Leeds allows you to know a toilet bowl when you see one?

[Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008

Actually, it's pretty easy not to laugh. Unless you're immature.

In defence of Cat Eyes, the Islanders, Predators, Thrashers, Blues, Penguins, and Coyotes could all be in some risk of relocation.

As always, I can't say anything exactly, or any sources, but the team that is most secure in all of this is the Coyotes. The least secure, I would argue, is not Pittsburgh.

To assume that Nashville is safe just because they have a new arena, while losing money every year, doesn't make sense - unless they have an NBA team about to share the house.

That being said, I don't think any of these teams have a greater than 33% chance of moving anytime too soon (as of next season).

I would not like to see any of these teams move but they all have some risk of doing so. IMO the Coyotes are probably the safest unless Wayne desides to sell. Next I would say that the Blues are the safest...at least for short term as the just got new owners and they are not going to give up on the team soo soon. After that I would say the Islanders 1 because they have a good history and it would be hard to move the team and i doubt the NHL would let them anyway. 4th I would say the Preds mainly because they have a new arena and are the only tenents in it (if they had lets say a NBA team the rink would still make money so it is going to be hard for the only thing that alows the rink to make money leave) 5th I would say the Thrashers. I would hate to see this team move but 1. They have never made the post season. 2. The owners are always fighting 3. They have bad attendence 4. They are loose money 5. There is another tenent (they hawks) and they arena would still make money without the thrashers. Things in their favor is that the arena is new and the fans that they do have are very good ones. Lastly I would say that the Pens have the most risk 1. because they have no arena and 2. because Mario is probably willing to sell. If they get a new arena I am willing to bet Mario stays or keeps a good part of the team. Also with a new arena I say they have the least risk of moving.

Last I checked, the Blues owner also operates the Scottrade center, so its really in his best financial interest to ensure that the team stays put.

I should also mention that they have been making capital improvements there recently; hardly the actions of a team that is gonna move.

Dude, I imagine that would slay in the average elementary schoolyard, but it's kinda lame once you pass puberty.

Besides, if the Blues move, imagine how angry Chicago would be if they lost their top rival (and ticket-seller). I think Florida is the least secure to stay.

The owner of the Predators is from Racine, isn't he? Maybe a move to Milwaukee is a possibility. If so, I'd actually consider renaming them the Admirals for brand recognition's sake. Saying that the Admirals have moved to the NHL is better than adding the "Milwaukee Predators."

Wait, screw it. Milwaukee is a crappy sports town. Packers town? Yes. Sports town? Nah.

Blues ain't moving.

Isles ain't moving.

Pens ain't moving.

Panthers ain't moving.

Preds? Who the hell knows.

That's probably a good summary. I wouldn't conclude the Pens "ain't moving" though. Probably ain't maoving is better.

There has been that rumor out there a few times.
