Maybe I've been to hard on on the Elf...

The Browns started using it back in 1946 and stoped using it in 1970.

What did the team do between 1946 and 1970?

League Championships (8)

AAFC Championships (4)

1946, 1947, 1948, 1949

NFL Championships (4)

1950, 1954, 1955, 1964

Conference Championships (11)

NFL American: 1950, 1951, 1952

NFL Eastern: 1953, 1954, 1955, 1957, 1964, 1965, 1968, 1969

Division Championships (13)

AAFC Western: 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949

NFL Century: 1967, 1968, 1969

If it helps them win...Long live the Elf...

yeah but that team is now the baltimore ravens who did win a super bowl a few years back. the current team is just an expansion team and hopefully continues to play like one so we can get the top pick. ^_^

No, that team should never be considered in the same breath with the Browns.

All Browns records reside in Cleveland, as they should.

The Elf logo would be just as relevant to the current Browns franchise as the a Model T logo would be to the Ford Motor company right now.

Its a great throwback logo, but not one that should be used in this millenium.

I mean C'mon, when I see an elf I think of Christmas or cookies not football.

When i see that Brownie, i think of the Browns. Just because the clock passed the year 2000, the Brownie is now illegal and can't be used? I think a team can use whatever they wish for their identity. Wether it is something they just made up, or is a beloved icon from their past that has been neglected for the last 40+ years...

But, you might say, he took the entire roster to Baltimore! This is true, but not really material. The franchise stayed in Cleveland, but the organization moved to Baltimore. They are not necessarily the same thing. This is especially true in the minor leagues, where clubs do not actually own their players. When the Indianapolis Indians switched their affiliation from the Brewers to the Pirates, they lost all their players to the Nashville Sounds. Does that mean that the Sounds are the "real" Indians?

What he said.
