rmackman
I will remember that if the Packers ever change there logo to a well executed but arbitrary logo of a "Shipper" instead of a "Packer"I agree that their internal nickname for the logo is a failed attempt to be clever, but that has nothing to do with the success of the logo itself.I think it's closer to maybe calling a Chimpanzee a Monkey. If someone did that, I wouldn't care. I think most people classify Hornets, Wasps, Yellowjackets, and any other "striped flying insect with large eyes, lives in a nest, and has a stinger" as BEES. Just like if they saw a Chimp, Orangutang, Gorilla, and a Baboon they'd call them a bunch of MONKEYS. Right or wrong that's just how it is. Therefore, for creative purposes, people don't have to necessarily be exact in their animal characterizations for the sake of marketing. "Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - Unknown | Check out my articles on jerseys at Bacon Sports

Your pictures tell a thousand words.I agree that their internal nickname for the logo is a failed attempt to be clever, but that has nothing to do with the success of the logo itself. It's not just the Fleur-de-bee. The dance team is the Honeybees (and there is a "senior" dance team called the "Used to Bees"), the fan e-mail service is called "Bee-mail", the message boards lead cheers of "Bee-fense", the Arena is informally referred to as "The Hive" in marketing, and of course there is the hexagon shape present in logos and such that was added on the move to New Orleans. That shape is more reflective of a honeycomb than a hornet's nest. One reason for the use of "Bee"-- it rhymes with a lot more things than "Hornets" It is what it is. Gothamite
True enough. To follow with Mack's comparison, guess it's the equivalent of calling King Kong "the big monkey." Don't really have a problem with that, taxonomically inaccurate though it may be. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog. Gothamite
There you go. That's so much better an example. I'm not bothered by that, nor am I bothered by the Hornets using "bee." The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.
chakfu
"Just like if they saw a Chimp, Orangutang, Gorilla, and a Baboon they'd call them a bunch of MONKEYS"If I hear someone calling a bunch of great apes monkeys, I think they're an idiot... Calling dolphins fish sounds incredibly ignorant as well. That said, the whole bee thing is obviously just a play on words and seems acceptable by comparison.
