Jeremy Shockey NOW a Saint!

From ESPN.com.....

Sean Payton's persistence finally won out. The New Orleans Saints acquired Jeremy Shockey for a second- and a fifth-round draft pick in 2009. The deal was first reported by FOXSports.com.

"Jeremy is a player that we are excited to have on our roster. He is someone I am familiar with as a player," Payton said. "He brings a skill set to the position that I feel will be a tremendous benefit to our offense." The Saints had been trying since February to acquire the disgruntled New York Giants tight end. First, they offered a second-round pick. Before the draft, they increased the offer to a second- and a fifth-round draft choice, but the Giants felt he was too valuable to lose until a few days before the start of their training camp. As Payton and Saints general manager Mickey Loomis did their last few minutes of office work before heading to Jackson, Miss., for Wednesday's start of training camp, they received a call from the Giants saying that Shockey was theirs."

NOW we have all of the essential pieces of a record-breaking offense. Colston, Bush/Thomas/McAllister, Shockey and Brees.......Thoughts?

Tampa is still gonna win that division by a landslide :)

Okay...I'll give you 2 Canadian Dollars if you can name the starting QB for that team. Tampa?? How many guys on that defense are collecting Social Security by now? Yeah, I respect that defense, but their offense doesn't hold the Saints jock by a mile. Also take into account the unsettled RB situation and how they only won the division with a 9-7 record, shows that once again, there will be a new NFC South champ by the time it's all said and done. Also, who in our division can stop ALL facets of the Saints offense? You cover Shockey and Colston, you leave Bush and Patten/Henderson/Arrington/Meachem wide open, with the abilities of Pierre Thomas/Deuce to open and blow up through the huge running lanes you can easily use the draw to beat the elderly linebackers and safeties. You play press coverage, Brees beats you with play-action. Too many things to account for my friend. So this will be the year the Saints and their "Playstation 3" offense will show their TRUE potential.......

.....just my two rusted Lincolns here......

P.S. Oh yeah....didn't we buy a defense this year too? Yeah, I think we did.

In the words of Greg Oden........Boom.

Yeah, as in 'Boom! It splatters all over your face'. Shockey maybe happy now, but if the Saints start stinking, expect the old malcontent in him to rear it's ugly head once again.

As long as they keep Pontiac Williams on the bench, Tampa's got a shot. :P

The acquisition of Jeremy Shockey doesn't nessicarily put New Orleans over the top, but from a talent standpoint, I do have the Saints as the favorite to win the NFC South over the Bucs.

As for the Giants, I think they'll be just fine without the ball dropping, helmet throwing, premature celebrating tight end.

Shockey? Too damn whiney.

Bush? Slow, overrated.

Deuce? Old.

Brees? Injuries willl be a worry.

Defense? Lets hope, for your sake, they "Bought" a WHOLE new D.

9-7 record? Yeah, we won the division with a few weeks left and shut down the shop for the season.

Unsettled running back position? Graham kicked ass for us last year and we only added depth. Caddy could be back too.

QB situation? Garcia was a Pro Bowler, he's our starter. Behind him we have Griese who already knows the system, McCown who is just fine on the bench and Simms will be gone. So realistically, what QB problem?

Initial sarcasm of first post? I wanna say it was somewhere around 3 feet, 6 1/2 inches above your dome my friend :) But considering New Orleans is in a bowl, and anything resembling a cool breeze generally wafts in about that far over the average persons head, making New Orleans completely miserable in the summer, I'll let it slide.

As I stated before, the Saints added some :censored: this off season that, while it may not be the best fit, it'll certainly help to boost morale. So yeah, I'm slightly worried.

But not that much ^_^

I don't have the patience to break down all the Bucs' issues at the moment, and you're right that things aren't perfect for the Saints.

But the good part is that Saints fans and Bucs fans will find out a lot about what's what on the very first Sunday of the season. I can't wait. B)

great move! now Dan Morgan will have someone to hold his hand on the bench.

Ummm, Dan Morgan offcially retired back in May because of injuries. Never played a down for the Saints.

It is what it is.

Actually, if history holds form for the 2008 season, then the Atlanta Falcons will win the division. My reasoning? Because since the NFL South formed in 2002, beginning with the Panthers in 2003 the team that has finished last the previous season has won the division the following season:

2003 - Panthers

2004 - Falcons

2005 - Buccaneers

2006 - Saints

2007 - Buccaneers

2008 - ??Falcons??

I doubt it...but I would not complain!!

Isn't Tampa Bay's whole team made up of Quarterbacks?

"Tampa Bay at their own 40 yard line. Brian Griese makes a high snap to Jeff Garcia who hands it off to Josh Johnson, who pitches the ball to Luke McCown. It's a double reverse! McCown looking far down the field, airs it out to the endzone, where it is caught by Chris Simms! Touchdown Buccaneers!"

You know, I rarely visit ccslsc anymore. I really should fix that.

LOL.....while that is sooo humorous to read, what I was wondering is who is the STARTING QB on that team. Coupled with an elderly defense....yeah....it's our year. The stars have aligned for us to make our big run. Now I know I'm a homer and all, and unabashedly so, and while I consider myself a football junkie, I'm just calling it as I see it. The division is weak, and with Jake Delhommes' limp noodle of an arm not quite something to bet the house on, and with Atlanta being complete garbage (AWESOME), our talent just MIGHT come together. Shockey keeps his mouth shut, Brees has another big year, Bush finds his niche', Deuce gets a few more yards out of those beaten knees, and our wideouts finally complement Colston and give him the help he needs, I'll be totally satisfied. The defense only needs to bend not break instead of our last few defenses, which bent over and broke like a maple bat. Optimismmmmmmmm!

I for the life of me figure out why anyone isn't sure of who Tampa's starting quarterback is. Our Starting quarterback for the 2008/09 season will be 07/08 PRO BOWLER Jeff Garcia. Unless Tampa makes some ridiculous swing for Favre, Garcia is our guy.
