crashcarson15
Personally, I like the idea of Manny to the Nats. Phillips said the Dodgers won't go past 2/$45 million, and the Nats may be the wild card in this. I like the idea for the simple fact of you are only locked into a big name guy for 2 or 3 years. I mean look what he did to the Dodgers, took a bad team and turned them into a good team.Oh, and now I hate the Celtics fan even more for the "Beat L.A." chant they stole from at least the D-backs (I was at a D-Backs/Dodgers game in mid-July on a Friday night, after leaving Indy that morning and the game went extras. Big mistake )
The_Admiral
I think "beat L.A." has been around longer than the Diamondbacks. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

The_Admiral
Yeah. I heard people chanting "let's go team name let's go" at a Giants game and I threw up all over the place. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
gingerbreadmann
Um, the Diamondbacks? Really?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksoRtL3rctsAnd the whole thing, you know, actually started in the 60's with the SF Giants and the Dodgers. So there's another layer for ya. (Just kidding. It was actually invented out of nowhere all the way back in June, if you can believe that, by Celtics fans for the NBA playoffs. So, huzzah, you are wrong by one month! ) Nobody really stole it from anyone else and it wasn't contrived tonight either. I'm sorry if you and your Diamondback bretheren were violated. Either way, what the hell are you talking about? And to let you know we have an MLB Offseason thread... now it's like have another thread for every rumor that's said on SportsCenter or if LeBron doesn't rule out signing with Cleveland. Just saying.

Of course, the Texiera thread started a nice conversation so I want to see what others think about Manny possibly going to the Nationals.EDIT: Of course, I don't know... the D-Backs looked like they've done the Beat L.A. thing against the Dodgers before. TFoA
1. I laughed so hard when you said that the Celtics stole "Beat L.A." from the D-Backs. That was honestly the last team I expected to hear.2. That video is great. I used to love when they rolled the credits while the game was going on. Made it seem like it was a TV show.3. If Manny goes to the Nats...I'd absolutely hate that because the sideshow would be in town whenever he comes to Atlanta to play...plus he'd be public enemy #1 in the entire NL East if the Nats were to make a run this year. FiddySicks
Um excuse me, the DIAMONDBACKS?If the whole beat LA chant came from anywhere, it's from the San Francisco Giants. The chant has probably been around nearly 40 years longer than the D Backs.EDIT: as GBM already stated. When the Sixers and Celtics were in the Eastern Conference Final in the early 80s, the Sixers were about to clinch on the Celtics home court. Realizing this, the Boston fans started chanting "Beat LA" to the Sixers. It was a really classy thing for the Celtics fans to root on an opposing team. Shows how much they hate LA.You really need to take a step back and realize how young you are - the world didn't start in '95. oddball
I always assumed it came from the Giants and in the '80's. I doesn't surprise me that it had to do with the Lakers though, the origins of the chant.

BBTV
Add me to the list of those who want Manny on the 'Nats. It seems like the easiest Phils games to get tickets to are always against the Nationals, because there's just such a boring team. This would at least give me a reason to go to games vs the Nats for reasons other than the fact that there are tickets available. Another local rival (the other being the Mutts) would be a good thing. On the downside, Phillies/Nats games in DC may not count as Phillies home games anymore.
