Brass
Since it's WAY to hard to determine a Player of the Century, I decided to do a player of the decade thread. Feel free to post any sport with the decades, and who rules that decade. Here's my NHL:1960's-Maurice Richard/Gordie Howe1970's-Bobby Orr1980's-Wayne Gretzky1990's-Mario Lemieux2000's-Not sure who to pick.... jkrdevil
Well, I think it is 3 early too name the player of the 2000 since it's only been 4 years but if I had to pick one for the NHL I would have to say Marty Brodeur. He has been the dominate goalie since 2000. He has won 2 cups and been to 3 finals all in 4 years. Though it is still too to name a player for the 2000's. NJTank
Richard retired in 1960 maybe he could be player of the 50s with Howe, but he cant be player of the 60'sCan't argue about Orr in the 70s, Gretzky in the 80s and Mario in the 90s.The 2000s should finish before you award a player of the decade, but I agree with JKR Brodeur has the early lead.Heres my list for the NHL1910's Joe Malone1920's Clint Benedict1930's Charlie Conacher1940's Bill Durnan1950's Gordie Howe with Richard pulling a close second1960's Bobby Hull1970's Bobby Orr1980's Wayne Gretzky1990's Mario Lemeiux www.sportsecyclopedia.com For the best in sports history go to the Sports E-Cyclopedia at http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com
Stampman
I was thinking the same thing about Richard & Howe--I'd have to pick Hull too--although it's not as cut & dried as some other decades--I'd consider Espo or Lafleur for the 70's--Orr's career was too short--or split the 70's into halves and go with Orr for the Start, Lafleur for the finish Comic Sans walks into a bar, and the bartender says, "Sorry, we don't serve your type here." Nick 1733
I was going to try with the NFL, but its impossible because of the way the game is played, you have so many different positions therefore many different talents. Stampman
He was a mjor cog in the 1998 Grey Cup win, and with basically the same team and a different QB we lost the 1999 game--so yeah in a way I am.But it was meant as a joke--one of those things that popped into my head, so I decided to post it--I was amused... IronChefShark
just goes to show how far ahead the NFL is of the CFL then.how a certain wiry no talent quarterback can be considered a winner in the CFL, then go to the NFL and be considered the loser he truthfully is US state flag concepts
Stampman
You seem to be in the minority on that but in any case we both know what we think of Jeff Garcia's quarterback skills--so I'm leaving it there --- "Gilroy was here"--was a take off on "Kilroy was here".I enjoy the CFL as a highly entertaining brand of football--it is idstinct enough to be a different game of sorts than the NFL, so in a sense not in direct competition.it is possible to like both, but prefer one...So that's all on that Shark, you're not going to bait me into an argument, or get me upset--- Comic Sans walks into a bar, and the bartender says, "Sorry, we don't serve your type here."
