Instead of contraction ...

If Major League Baseball wants to reduce the number of teams, instead of contraction, perhaps some teams should merge.

The first ones that come to mind are the Florida Marlins and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

Just slide their names together and look what you get:

Florida Marlins + Tampa Bay Devil Rays =

Florida Rays

(get it? like rays of sunshine! what else is Florida known for?)

.....

Of course, all this is just an excuse to introduce a new logo, which you can see right here:

Any thoughts?

a. I like the idea of combining teams, though there would be a lot of player/personel cuts.

b. The logo is pretty good. The only change I might make is when you combine the teams, combine the logos. I see that your trying for a whole new logo, but for some reason I just don't see it on a baseball uniform.

I know this will probably offend people, but I couldn't resist:

San Fransisco Giants + Oakland A's = Golden Gate Gays.

I am family in San Fransisco, so I know better.  I have my ticket to hell.

Said it before and I'll say it again . . .

Merge Montreal and Tampa Bay, move 'em to Portland and call 'em the Oregon ExRays.

Their mascot would be a feline they could call Catscan.

you know, yhollander, that doesnt sound too bad, just a little minor-leagueish, but good idea

Actually it was sarcasm that apparently fizzled.  Cat Scan = Organ X-ray.  I think I'll stick to practicing law.
