Starter were never particularly accurate when it came to replica's, its definitely not a knockoff though.

Yes, they did. Mario still didn't wear it, but that doesn't immediately discount it as a fake. That just means whoever customized it is an idiot.

Right. Bad customization does not necessarily equal a fake. Sometimes they go hand-in-hand but there are some legit replica and authentic jerseys with terrible customization. Doesn't mean they are fake jerseys.

Its part of the CCM vintage series that was released as early as 2004 (correct me if me wrong thats a guess). Its just a bad customization job. You can tell from the crest that its not a China knockoff. The crests on those are always oversized and done with cheap wrinkly materials.

Overall, I'm leaning towards this being a proper replica. The crest doesn't seem to be wrinkly, and that's after going through a rainstorm and being washed. The sewing on the sleeves and hem are done with red string (or wherever some portion of red is used. However, what are any of your thoughts?

The difference in the sleeve and hem silver sleeve stripes are very, very slightly different; I don't think it's anything major.

Everything about that jersey looks legitimate. The shoulder panels being flush with the seams of the arms is actually something that a few NHL teams had (Canucks, Flames, Oilers, Rangers and Capitals come to mind), though I don't ever recall the Hurricanes ever having "squared" shoulders. Also, while the collar looks like a standard two-layered collar that many teams used (like Chicago, Dallas, Ottawa's white jersey, Anaheim's eggplant jersey, the Hurricanes had always had a elastic two-colored collar.

However, and this may be the key part, the little Hurricanes logo on the rear hem indicates that it was produced sometime between 1996 til at least 1998, as all replicas produced by CCM during that time has a tiny replica of the teams logo on the rear hem. Knowing that the Hurricanes weren't around before 1997, and that the shoulder paneling is not correct, it is possible that you may have a replica from the very first season, or...possibly even a prototype (that winded up being about 99% of the final jersey)!

As an owner of over 125 CCM replicas I would say you got the real deal. I have a Brind'Amour Canes jersey that looks just like yours.

Well, it's a bit late, but thanks so much for the input!! I'm so glad that this is a proper replica, quite likely from the first year of the Carolina Hurricanes (and maybe even a prototype!)!!
