welcome what happened to that liberty basketball associocation

  3. Are you going to bring back your AFL series?

  4. Hi! I wanted to stop by and say that I really loved the What-If scenario you did on the WFL this past summer.

I think it would be really awesome to do another version of that, where the WFL evolves into the WLAF between the years of '74 and '94.

  5. Excerpt from the story thread:

David Boss [1] of NFL Properties on the Avengers' branding process:
"The name 'Avengers' rose to the top of a fan poll conducted by the Los Angeles Times. In April of 1990, we were able to strike a deal with Stan Lee of Marvel Comics in which he'd allow the organization to use the Avenger moniker in exchange for the rights to produce World League related comic books. Luckily, we had one member of our creative staff who was a comic aficionado as a youngster. He recalled how most of the good guys wore some combination of red and blue with an occasional touch of golden yellow. Early on, we devised a stylized version of the 'LA' initials with jagged edges lifted from the city's flag. When that prototype was ridiculed by fans, we had to regroup and try to create something more dynamic. After maybe a month or two, we finally settled on the 'avenging angel' with the wing on his helmet. We were relieved to learn from team owner C. David Baker [2] that the fans liked the final design better."

[1] Mr. Boss helped create the World League logos in real life,
[2] The same C. David Baker that in real life owned the Anaheim Piranhas of the Arena Football League, served as the Arena League's commissioner, the father of former Atlanta Falcon Sam Baker and currently head of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

  6. Did you get my PM's?

  7. Are you going to do any Project 32's for the NFL, NHL, NBA or MLS? The one you did for MLB was awesome!

      Thanks!

I doubt it. I'm in the middle of some big stuff in my personal life and I don't really have the interest in these other sports to keep going with a big, league-wide project. The Defunct Saga has been with me for about a year and a half now and I don't think I'm game for a full series after it. Maybe a few scattered concepts when I get an idea (a la OldSchoolVikings), but not a full series.

I did do an NBA: Project 32 about five years ago, if you want to find it.

  8. Anymore XFL concepts coming or are you stuck on names?

I can give you some names in a PM.

  9. If you need help with WLAF fields, here's a full game if this helps:

Thanks neo. I plan to do the WLAF and NFL Europe eventually, after I finish the USFL

  10. Are you interested in USFL Fields?

Or how about WLAF/NFL Europe fields?

I will need to scower for some of the WLAF/NFL Euorpe fields. I believe I have a couple of Frankfurt Galaxy pics somewhere, ;-D

Here's a stripped down version of the Amsterdam Admirals' wordmark.

      24948336097_969db8dba9_o.jpg

On and off the endzones would have "Amsterdam" in the Democratica italic font with the capital A being the same as you see above. For week 8 of 1996, the "Amsterdam" text was orange with a navy stroke against the plain green grass. For week 10 of 1996, the end zone was colored in a blue lighter than what the Admirals used. The Admiral logo at the 50 yard line appears to have a Columbia blue stroke around the logo.

Even though this clip is really highlights for the Galaxy, I wanted to point out the Barcelona Dragons' endzones consisted most of the time of the city name in the same Charlemagne font as the Dragons' wordmark. Note the red and blue accents on the 50 yard line of the Dragons' field. On the Galaxy's field, notice how the colors of the "FRANKFURT" text on the endzones change with each home game. And one more thing about Frankfurt's field, the grounds crew at Waldstadion seemed to have painted the Galaxy logo with a smoother gradient technique instead of trying to do all those little square dots and stuff.

  11. Thanks for the follow on my Driveball series. Much appreciated!

  12. Love the Bucky Barnes Badger avatar.

As for how to help the AAF, it should be more like a fictional game I based on Aussie Rules and Gaelic Football, which you can read about here:

  13. Just curious, but who is that character on your avatar?

      RightGuard

      Homura Akemi from Madoka Magica

  14. Is the cap on your avatar a real team or a fantasy team? That logo looks pretty cool.

I designed the cap, part of the Clink Club program that Brandiose used to run. Unfortunately, they selected my cap for production only a month before they shut the program down altogether. No one ever bought any--I would have received a commission if they had--so I own the only four in existence, as part of their purchase of my design.

      I'm very sorry.

It was a raw deal, I suppose, but I did get paid a modest amount, and I really needed the money at the time, so it worked out in the short term. It's just a shame I don't own the rights to it anymore so I can't do anything with it.

  15. Something has been on my mind lately...

What do you think should be done to address player safety in football?

    1. Veras

      Veras

Sorry to wait so long to reply to this.  I was busy when I saw it the first time and forgot to come back to it, but it's an interesting question.  I love football, but I just had a son, and I honestly hope that he never plays, for exactly this reason.

But I don't have an answer.  I'm not an expert on the physics of football or sports medicine, but something has to happen, and it may be dramatic, more than just better helmets or stricter rules about defensive backs hitting high.  It could be something that totally revolutionizes the game, to the point that it's unrecognizable.  I'm sure that a lot of people would respond to any such change by saying that the game had been ruined.  I don't know, but don't forget, the forward pass was developed to enhance player safety, and ended up making the game much better.

  16. I'm starting a hand-drawn series of my own:
