The distaste for the Falcons is largely overblown. The problems lies in which combos and socks they pair with them. What they need to do is stick with the rule that if they wear white pants, they should wear black socks (and vice versa).

Black top with white pants - best overall combo (not including throwbacks). Probably the only combo that’s worn “correctly” for sock contrast.

White top with black pants - switching to this as the primary away look has helped them greatly but they should wear white socks for contrast.

All white - this look could be decent, but their insistence on wearing the wrong socks significantly hurts it. Black socks would help immensely.

All black - the only combo where I think contrasting socks wouldn’t help, as they’d stick out like a sore thumb.

Gradient - definitely needs a rework.

All this to say, these uniforms are a far cry from what came before them. The old set had outstayed its welcome with its mindless panels and piping. The new set by comparison is actually fairly simple. Just a custom font and a stripe down the side.

It would also help tremendously if they had red socks. I’m not saying they should wear them 100% of the time, but the pant stripe is ALWAYS red; generally, to me, it looks good when the pant stripe is the same color as the socks - although, in this case, black socks work well with their white pants, even with the red stripe. To not even have the option of having the pant stripe and socks be the same color speaks to how little The Swoosh was thinking about color blocking when they designed this.

Overall, though, I still like the style of these MUCH better than what came before them.

Next in the lengthy list of reasons why the loose leash on uniformity in the sport is a bad things, some of the Marlins have stuck with the black socks with the Friday throwback alt.

I would think this would go without saying, but socks should be the same color for the whole team - otherwise, there's no point in them being part of the uniform. The NFL has been getting sloppy there too.

I feel like the orange is going to be named after one of the types of bright wild flowers in the Sonoran Desert.

You can see a lot of them in the background of the video.

    Very nice color.

I love orange wildflowers. Where I come from they’re tiger lilies (or just plain orange lilies), and they’re gorgeous.

So... can we call these the "MetroConnect" sets, then??

You know what...in a vaccum, on their own, I like them. Sue me. This actually feels more like a Texas Rangers nrasn than the actual current Texas Rangers brand does....

I'm glad you said it so I didn't have to.

The uniforms belong on a slow-pitch softball team. Don’t get me wrong, they’d be the best-dressed slow-pitch softball team ever, but they’re still not very good for MLB.

I actually like the gryphon, but I don’t care for the Nikespeak that tries to make it seem like…not a gryphon. Also, how can you have a gryphon without a pea and a tear?

The maroon would be perfect if it were just a tiiiiiiny bit more pure (i.e., less purplish). Color-wise, at least, it’s an upgrade on the too-bright red they’ve been wearing.

Grey has been a (very minor) part of their identity for decades, and with how well it compliments maroon, and its ties to the desert cardinal, no complaints there.

The orange could be good in small doses. I’ve actually never had a problem with Virginia Tech’s color scheme. If the orange is a clear tertiary behind maroon and grey, I could see it being good for a pop of color here and there.

I know we don’t know that these are the exact shades that will be used, but if they’re close to these, then at least the color scheme won’t be a problem, and may possibly even be an upgrade on the one it’s replacing. I definitely like downgrading black, as long as they aren’t keeping a BFBS jersey. Their black jersey was probably the best one in the old set (says more about what utter crap that set was than about that particular jersey), but the incongruence between the BFBS set and the almost-black-free default uniforms was pretty bad.

With this being Nike working in conjunction with one of the league’s most dysfunctional (and cheapest) franchises, I have no doubt that the overall design will be pretty crappy. Especially for a team that could easily do simple and get away with it (see: everything they wore before 2005). But I don’t hate the color combo.

And from everything that's been described thus far...I'm thinking 2018 Snatit rebrand level bad. If not worse...

Those would be okay (not amazing, but okay) if not for the armpit/rib striping and the insistence on monochrome looks.

So with this starting at 6pm MST, and no daylight savings time in effect, we're not going to see these until well after 9pm on Thursday night on the east coast, right?

I tell you what, they better have hit it out of the park with these.  In this day & age, you can't tease this long and not deliver.

I'm already over the speculation.  If these aren't impressive, the Cardinals will deserve all the criticism that comes.

It’s the Cardinals, so they will probably be bad.

And with almost all of these, people online claimed it was the team deliberately planting fakes to throw us off the scent. LOL.

Yeah, the Jets went to the trouble of designing fake uniforms and staging a fake photoshoot with Sam Darnold just to trick their fans for a whole week before unveiling the real uniforms. Money well spent!

I wish they would actually wear those combos that were initially unveiled (aside from the black-black). Green-white, white-green, white-white with green socks…just something that’s not a cluster of only white and black except the green helmet. But I digress.

Based on the "leaks",  here's my best guess on what we'll get:

Bold of you to assume the socks won’t be the same color as the pants 80% of the time. And that the socks will be striped. Mind you, I want traditional color blocking and enjoy striped socks; it just doesn’t seem like either of those is the way the league has been heading since the Swoosh took over.

Interesring. I’ve always called it yellow but athletic gold works too. Whatever you call it, I think both it and black should be co-secondary to red.

Sounds like Maryland is going to Terps script - or at least they are teasing it through social media channels and adding a bunch of gear to their store.

Would love black, white and red helmets.  Jerseys and pants in all four - black, gold, white and red colors.

I wonder if they make the recent “throwback” uniforms their full-time thing, use the Terps script helmets with the current sets of uniforms or if they have some sort of new design all together.

The white-helmeted script look, circa Shawne Merriman’s time there, was phenomenal.

Also, because I’m pedantic - it’s yellow, not gold. Their colors are from the Flag of Maryland, and that color is specified as yellow, or at least used to be.

They used to do R/R/Yaa a on the set before this one. Why they got rid of the yellow pants is beyond me.

Maybe they thought they were looking too close to a Midwestern USC? I dunno, but I definitely want them back in yellow pants.

One of the reasons I'm trusting this Reddit user is the level of detail he's providing. And, he's not really a uniform aficionado per se. He also described the helmet down to the letter from the other sources I've seen and heard about.

He is the one who gave me the Pantone values - he read them right off of the press release he apparently has in his possession. I'm not even sure he has all that much Pantone knowledge to make them up. The colors he provided make sense as far as what I can expect from Nike and overall general uniform manufacturing. The individual color choices seem reasonable from a production standpoint. Nothing too out of the ordinary; tried and tested colors. Just a very different combination than we're used to for the Cardinals, or any NFL team to be honest.

It probably is all true, but I still can't believe it's happening. Could be the most radical change we've seen. Traditionalists are gonna HATE this! However, I am keeping a somewhat open mind. I'd like to see how it all comes together.

If I'm wrong about any of it, I'll be back to take my public flogging.

Traditionalists already hate the Cardinals’ uniforms. I’d like simple for them, but if they can make the elements flow together well, then anything can work.

There are a number of acceptable directions for the Cards (Arizona flag, desert cardinal, old school stripes), but my preferred route would be stripping it all down and owning a simple look of red and white. Obviously they aren't the Yankees or whatever, but I like when century-old franchises embrace the fact.

The Jags treatment should have gone to the Cards.

I’ll do ya one better: cardinal and light cream. Desert grey for accents and facemasks. Of course, I would fully understand anyone’s reservations about not using pure white after the Rams’ “bone” debacle, but I think a simple design with crimson, cream, and sparse desert grey (basically like the black on their St. Louis set) could really pop.

I guess Miami isn’t going to stop wearing those black uniforms smh

Now that they’ve gone to their first ever Final Four in them, they’ll wear them every chance they get for 5-10 years. Their orange (same basic design) is decent, and their green is beautiful. They have a distinctive color scheme with decades of history behind it. Of course they’re wearing black.  🙄

I love the teal and F logo. The problem with the marlins is, they have a sick obsession with black. It morphed into a silver-black from the original set. Then they redesigned and instead of owning orange and all the bright rainbow colors, it morphed into black. This recent redesign took black to such a new level, they give you a hat logo and overused alt that are nearly illegible. With Miami and sunshine and flashy colors, they literally could have embraced teal OR orange OR this new blue and chose to emphasize black each time

Agreed. OG Marlins look was really good, and it’s a shame they decided they didn’t like it.
